Will India’s foreign policy decisions be a test for their superpower ambition?

  • India’s international influence is growing, and it’s now at a geopolitical crossroads.
With a GDP of more than $3 trillion, India is the fifth largest economy in the world, behind Germany, Japan, China and the United States.
Ever since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, India has been mostly tight-lipped in condemning Russia over the act. Instead, India has boosted its imports of heavily discounted Russian oil since the war began.
Karthik Nachiappan, who researches Indian foreign policy at the National University of Singapore, noted that the country has a growing influence in the Global South, which is mainly made up of countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
“Non-alignment has been a primary strategy that has covered Indian foreign policy through the decades,” Nachiappan told CNBC.
“It has given Indian governments over the years a tool, to not entangle itself into issues or affairs that would harm its national interests, primarily economic development,” he added.
However, India’s policy of non-alignment has incrementally transformed into a policy of multi-alignment over the years, Nachiappan added.
Don McLain Gill, a geopolitical analyst at De La Salle University, says India has an independent approach to its foreign policy.
“It is beyond neutrality and looking into ways where India will be able to contribute responsibly and at the same time look after its own interests,” Gill said.
But as the world becomes more polarized, India’s foreign policy decisions will test the country’s superpower ambitions. Watch the video to find out more.

I'll tell you why there's a bias in this video. I am typing this comment after stopping at the first 30 seconds of this video. A country whose GDP is $3.75T is mentioned as over $3T and not as almost $4T. That sets the stage for a forced storyline. It's important to study what India is doing and what Africa and Middle East will follow. They are creating a third option. It is a delusion of the 2 big pillars that they will make others pick sides. Only countries in extreme scenarios i.e., Russia, Ukraine picks sides. India will be the third largest economy in 3 years probably. The US realizes they are not liked by many now, and nobody in the right mind likes China's arrogance and bully-mindset. India is US's bridge to the Middle East, Africa. And Blinken who is a friend of the India Foreign Minister Jaishankar is well aware of this. Case in point the India- Middle East- Europe Corridor which was announced in the G20 meet. This is also why the west agreed to India's version of the G20 Leadership communique that did not condemn Russia. Every party exactly knows what is happening expect the false narratives of the media. If war escalates, you will be surprised how sudden loss of quality of life will turn Europe against American policy.

That is a big pipe dream. The Western Imperialist countries led by the United States are determined to maintain their hegemony and domination of the world. They want to keep their hegemony in finance, trade, science, technology.
Instead they want countries of the global south to maintain purely being sources of raw materials, natural resources, cheap labor, and high intensity labor manufacturing.
They don't want them to go into heavy industry or go into high tech manufacturing
The global south knows this and it also knows that the only country who will shatter this hegemony and domination into a million pieces is China together with Russia.
Despite the brutal genocidal colonial past the West inflicted on India the indian elite still feel a deep affinity and attachment to their former colonial masters.
Partly because many of them benefited from that colonial rule.
Partly also because in the end many of them dream of one day being accepted by the Western elite to be a part of their group.

Land acquisition for projects can easily be done if the government either pays market price in advance or lease the land. That way people would neither have their assets in an unofficial frozen state with no idea when the government will aquire the land or they would actually directly benefit financialy from infrastructure development The problem is that our government does not have the political will to avoid the projects be developed at the expense of people. And the reason is because the motivation is the age old corruption. If they spend the money for the projects to pay just prices for people, how will they get enough to pocket by subtendering

Fact is that, after all the posturing is over, India has always been and will always be Western in its outlook. Even when India was close to the USSR, it still treated the West as close friends. It was irritated by the Western coddling of Pakistan and the West by its coddling of the Soviet Union. This concept was propagandized by Turkey before Erdogan to expand its "secular Islam".
Malaysia has been the biggest success with the majority of its Muslim population are Turkophile and look at Arab (specifically Saudi) only as a place to pray.
Indians, however tend to have a more positive view of the Arab world compared to Turkey

    • @MaTara01
      @MaTara01 Před 8 měsíci

@@0891Gokz For me the Arabs, Turks, Iraqis, Iranis - the entire Middle East (excluding Israel) are the same. I regard them as Islamic countries and I think it's not possible for any Islamic country to be a "secular" country, where all religions are treated as the same. Just not true, even in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore etc. - the primacy of Islam in such countries is unquestionable, given the fundamental theological foundations on which Islam stands, which proclaim Islam to be the only true religion in the world and Mohammed to be the last Prophet.
PS - Turkey has been very hostile to India, especially, with Erdoğan at the helm; it has ganged up with Pakistan, spread anti - India, anti-Hindu propoganda & encouraged terrorism, especially in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. So Indians don't like Turkey much. What Erdoğan forgets is that there are more Muslims in India than in Turkey. And funnily enough, even though India is a Hindu majority country, Muslims from India's neighbouring Muslim-majority countries want to migrate to India & do so in their millions, especially, from Bangladesh.
