A Very Late Night Christmas Walk in a COTSWOLD Village | No One Around

- So, in this video we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water which was within minutes of bidding farewell to Christmas Day and hello Boxing Day.
Why post a Christmas walk nearly at the end of January? Well, two reasons...in just eleven months from today it will be Christmas Eve again :D, also with so many videos being published during the festive season, it is easy for a video to get submerged in the plethora of Xmas videos and as this is a very low key Xmas walk, thought it best to let the rush die down as so to speak. Also, because this walk was so late at night not a single person is seen and no Christmas music is heard! But we can hear the gentle sound of flowing water from the River Windrush and we also see the moon light the clouds in night sky during the walk.

This is definitely a Silent Night 🎄 I always love the Christmas atmosphere, but I am not a fan of noise and the obvious consumerism that is so much of a part of it these days. This is my kind of Christmas: quiet, cute displays, soft light and no people around. Lovely walk. I already know if we have a heatwave this summer, this will be one of the videos I will come back to. 🙂

…so, what time of night is this walk taken? We can’t think of going anywhere in our town in the States where we’d be able to have the whole village/town to ourselves!??
I really enjoy your videos! So calming! Would love to visit this area you show. Why do we rarely see people out enjoying this as you do? I understand this one is at night, but hardly ever do we see anyone. ....from Florida
Bourton-on-the-Water is a charming little town by day.
Very pretty to visit.
But Christmas night gives it a magical, old-fashioned side of the past.
Some windows really have a very special charm.

Loved the water sounds, thought it might have been by the sea at first. Such peaceful videos. I’m crocheting and praying while I listen. Greatly motivated me to pray for the folks there. Also appreciate the idea of sharing the quiet holiday spirit when everyone is indoors with family.

Hello from Japan. Nice Christmas scenery. I live in a country town by a lake and I love the atmosphere of these quiet, dark winter nights. To be honest, I am not a fan of Christmas and New Year in Tokyo, where people flock in large numbers to show off their illuminations and take photos of them.
I stayed in the Cotswolds a few years ago with my husband. I miss it so much.

This walk was a wonderful idea, very calm & a nice surprise. I know it's the end of January & it flew by so fast but my walks have been by the ocean dreaming of Spring. The ocean has been rough, stormy & steel gray so this calm, beautiful cheery walk is good for my soul. Thank you, hope you have a great rest of your week. 🩵🌊🩵🌊

Long time no see Bourton. I remember the Motor Museum & someone driving the old jalopy down main street. Wow, would you look at Venus, so bright in the heavens, paired with full moon. I also remember the crowds so thick that day, an impromptu proposal on a bridge. Tonight she's totally peaceful and enchanting, seems even Windrush is happily gurgling at the silence. Very good camera have you, really picks up the subtle nuances. The Den: been decades since hearing that word, forgot it actually, nice to re-add it to me now rather corrupted cowboy verbiage. Yea yea! I was hoping you'd zoom in on stuffed animal display... I, uh, still have olds and news tasking about me house. Ahhh, teddies! Wait! Go back! 😂l too thought it a real cat. Gads I'd buy that whole store in a snap lock stock 'n barrel....such lovelies. No, no, nooo, you zoomed in on the teddies, precious cutie tooties. Now THAT'S downright genius, Sir🕶️, window shopping! Encore! Encore! 🤍3:38, 5:17, 7:39, 9:56-10:07 scraping the fence, 27:38 (darn ⛈️ still sheeting me roof)

That was one of the first few uploads when back in the day I had a camera strapped to my chest and it kept shutting down because it was so roasting hot that day! Well, I think this now is my favorite nighttime walk of yours, to date- though I do recall the one where you showed the window of the Beatrix Potter shop early on as being a most enjoyable one, too. I loved the stuffed animal display here, as well- such cute little things! (Our grandkids call them “stuffies”! 🙂). I was glad to see Paddington Bear also represented! My kids loved those books when young, and the sketch of Paddington with your late Queen Elizabeth on her Platinum Jubilee was charming, and demonstrated her keen sense of humor! The shopkeepers in this town certainly have raised window dressing to an art form, and must thereby entice many passers-by in to peruse the merchandise. It is true that Christmas things are sometimes equally or more enjoyable afterwards, as Christmastime can be such a busy period, with other commitments. Afterwards can give the opportunity to savor the delights more- as your lovely Christmas-evening walk has just illustrated. There was some stunning footage of the night sky included in this walk, and I thought that was truly beautiful! BTW, for the benefit of American viewers, can you please tell us what “Boxing day” is? I know that it exists, that it is the day after Christmas in the UK and the Commonwealth, and that it is a bank holiday for you- but what is its meaning/origin? Do any special activities or customs take place on December 26th? It is listed on American calendars, but probably most people here know little about it, and it is always nice to learn new things about other countries.

Right, so my understanding of Boxing Day is this, it is literally a day to sort out all the boxes from presents after Christmas Day, I could be completely wrong of course and it was actually named that for a totally different reason 😳. Yes, you lost a national treasure with your late Queen’s passing. It might sound weird coming from an American, but I was very sad, too, when I heard how ill she was, and then later on that she had passed away. Between my dad’s stories of England (and the era when he was present there) and then additional documentaries that I have watched on her family background and about her life, I have gained great respect for her, and think that she was a fine woman, with an unparalleled dedication to the nation that she served. It’s obvious from having watched the funeral proceedings and the massively long lines along roads that millions shared these thoughts and feelings. I don’t believe that I have ever seen anything more poignant or more heartbreakingly beautiful than her lone piper playing the song of farewell, and slowly walking away, with fading music. What an amazing woman!
Thanks for answering the question about Boxing Day. That kind of a day is definitely needed in most households, as things can be in a bit of a mess after the activities of Christmas Day, and gift exchanges. I could have looked that up on Google, I suppose, but preferred an answer from an actual person!
We are well. The snow has changed to rain, and this is whittling down massive snowbanks- but hopefully not all, as our grandkids love to sled, and I want to use those snowshoes again! : )

As this is the video for your most recent nighttime walk, I must tell you here that your after-dark walks came to my mind tonight when I and a small group of people took a guided “moonlight walk” in the dark at the nature preserve (same one where we snowshoed). It was a unique experience- seeing familiar wooded areas and trails, but with a totally different look….almost like being on another planet! It’s hard to adequately describe the atmosphere…peaceful, and with an ethereal sort of beauty. We heard coyotes howling, which was also neat (and slightly spooky). Anyway, I thought of the OAAW walks as I was on one of my own. : )
