  • Lantern control, once believed to be killed by the Mox Opal ban is back and better than ever. With a streamlined list aimed at quickly locking our opponents out we are able to charge straight into the modern metagame.
    Many people have asked which version of lantern they should play if they are just learning the deck, and this is it! It contains all the key aspects of Lantern, and will definitely be able to win you a lot of games.

    Thanks for the upload!
    @1:39:55, it's probably better to wait and draw the Duress here. You know that the opponent is on Scapeshift and that they've drawn a Scapeshift. You know that you will lose if they successfully cast that Scapeshift, so you need to get rid of it. You seem to realize this later on as you're digging for another Duress or Thoughtseize (and end up with an IoK instead).
    @1:41:32, if those Prismatic Endings were Assassin's Trophy, you could have let the opponent try to get Valakut triggers and Trophy the Dryad in response to counter the triggers. This would force the opponent to play around it (if they saw the line), meaning that you can then instead Trophy the Valakuts themselves.
    This also means that you could have drawn that Urza's Saga (which would have given you the Needle to shut off Ring). The opponent's only out then would be the Titan in their hand, but you already have Bridge for that.
    @1:46:06, it's best to blind-mill the opponent here. You can win games against decks like Scapeshift by milling their Valakuts by chance and/or milling enough mountains that they can no longer trigger Valakut without a Dryad.

    I definitely think taking the Tome is the right choice, game 2 of match 1. As tempting as it is to be greedy and take the Cling, if they rip the land and play Tome the downside is worse than then clinging once every couple of turns, imo.

    I've seen some weird choices in my years, but bording out footfalls for RIP? Da fuk?

    lol at the round 3 "nice 3:0 we just win here ... oh first strike" 🤣🤣🤣

    39:00 I would have milled that land. Simply because it's more likely he had a force of vigor in his hand than a top deck answer to your ensnaring bridge.
    46:13 You tapped the wrong mana here too. Could have used the green to cast the ancient stirrings, since it's going to be griefed away anyway.

    • @lanterninsights
      @lanterninsights  Před 4 měsíci +3

      First one I don't think its worth it to mill the land, as there is no way I can keep them off lands and green cards.
      Second one agree totally, probably should have stirrings first

    What would you change in order to play lantern without urza's saga?

    shouldve milled the scion. dont understand the thought process of not doing so. sure "if i mill it and they find it" but scion is better than a random card because it gives vigiliance lifelink first strike to all creatures. scion is better than a random card and if they find a force you can just shuffle with lantern.
    you need to respect scion or you lose.
    when you said "i can race the scion" i audibly went "huh?" because in no world can you race scion and leyline of guildpact lol

    Do you have a favored budget list for lantern?

    • @lanterninsights
      @lanterninsights  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Been working on one but its not great - Lantern is already pretty budget compared to most of the format though :)

    So essentially you win g2 and g3 if they don’t find lands or core cards of the deck

    • @lanterninsights
      @lanterninsights  Před 4 měsíci +2

      This deck is built to keep opponents off certain cards so yes

    • @lt5334
      @lt5334 Před měsícem

      do you know how lantern works? that is the point of the deck. you dont control the gameplay, you control the very aspect of the cards they are allowed to draw

    Oh great one. I have been spreading this channels name everywhere for like 2 months. Please please grant me the knowledge of how to actually play control on mtgo. Like just a guide to how you manage your timer. I have just dipped my toes into the site and lost 20 bucks 0-10 from two leagues where i was moving as quick as possible.

    I love your videos on lantern, but your ego in the rhinos matchup really isn't a good look, your hyperfocus on them being 'wrong' caused you to lose an extremely winnable game 2, I really hope this is a lesson you learned from honestly

    ive never seen a lantern player make so many basic mistakes on esp playing lands incorrectly...

      People make mistakes sometimes, yeah. Hell, I've been playing for some time and my recent video against Living End was pretty bad.
