Time to Grind with Esper Tutors!!! | MTGO League
Back with the full leagues, and trading some speed for more consistency with an Esper list. With so many tutors we can always find the pieces we need, as long as we get a bit of time. Additionally, the difference between bridge with zero cards in hand and bridge with one or two cards in hand is pretty low in a lot of matchups.
This list is specifically built to be good against the slower grindier decks, so this list is perfect if your local meta is heavy in 4c Omnath or UW Control; maybe not so perfect if its a lot of hardened scales and burn :) This is reflected pretty well in round 5, which is exactly the type of matchup this version is targeting.

Best Mirror in Modern??? | Lantern Control Gameplay

Not every day that you run into an opponent on Lantern, so important to learn from it when you do. Sideboarding becomes pretty important, and there is a constant game of what to name with needle. I think this version is pretty heavily favoured in the mirror, having many ways of tutoring for the exact right card. With the new meta evolving post Violent Outburst ban, I think it is time to revisit the mono blue shell. With more decks playing at sorcery speed the value of the counterspells get a lot better, so definitely something to try! Today I am experimenting with a fun version playing the Thopter Sword combo in the sideboard. Being able to completely switch our strategy definitely will catch people by surprise. A word of warning if you go with this plan; don't always bring it in. Can I Make Tarmogoyf Work in Lantern??? | Full League Live

Today I am trying a new sideboard plan, focusing on having the option to bring in Tarmogoyfs in a variety of matchups. Not only can it pressure decks that bridge is not strong against but it can also act as extra copies of bridge against decks that have a hard time removing it. Very interesting idea that I had a lot of fun playing! Decklist: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6173452 0:00 Intro 2:40 Roun...
Absolutely Insane Tarmogoyf Game!!! | Lantern Control Gameplay

Today I am testing with a new sideboard innovation in Tarmogoyf. This allows us to have a better angle of attack against decks that are hard to lock, and can function as an additional bridge in matchups like scam where it is hard to kill postboard. This is a very interesting idea, and I will be testing it more on the channel!

Now with MH3 I'm missing you so much. Loved your videos and you always answered coments, lovely content. Just hoping you are doing well! ❤
Latern con💤
I love your videos on lantern, but your ego in the rhinos matchup really isn't a good look, your hyperfocus on them being 'wrong' caused you to lose an extremely winnable game 2, I really hope this is a lesson you learned from honestly
We need an update to this!
Hope you're still making videos in the future, missing these insights. GGs
What would you change in order to play lantern without urza's saga?
shouldve milled the scion. dont understand the thought process of not doing so. sure "if i mill it and they find it" but scion is better than a random card because it gives vigiliance lifelink first strike to all creatures. scion is better than a random card and if they find a force you can just shuffle with lantern. you need to respect scion or you lose. when you said "i can race the scion" i audibly went "huh?" because in no world can you race scion and leyline of guildpact lol
sorry I'm new to modern, what is the emrakul in sideboard used for?
Basically play 1 to drastically improve the mill matchup, low opportunity cost to make one matchup way better
I think the mardu dude was right and he would have had the win if he didn't stop to play the kroxas. He had two malakir rebirth in hand which he could have used on a kroxa legend rule that one away, return it, repeat. 9 dmg.
Couldn't he have activated cookbook for 4 mana, to put a non-land in hand in response to the trigger? Negating 3 damage?
round 4 losing to known information (2 bridges, 1 hand 1 grave) is peak Lantern Control 😂
It just makes you wonder how exactly does it win? Through breaking spirits...
urza's saga doesn't hurt
why not activate pixis against tron when they went to draw scrying
sphere doesnt give you a response window. its card draw is built into the mana ability (unlike star)
I love your content, because of your canal i build lantern control, and oh boy it is sweet
is going to 21 land an option for cutting to 60? or is 22 where you need to be for casting bridges and whirs?
also, shouldnt you be blind milling more? against decks like merfolk where recursion isnt an issue and you have a chance of just milling their pieces?
that game vs mardu, opp gets 9 from hand kroxa - malakir rebirth - gy kroxa
i think i want to stay at 22, you often need 4 lands to cast whir (one being saga) - without whir 21 is probably fine as for blind milling, it doesnt change much unless you have something like surgical - sure you can mill a key piece, but if you mill anything else it makes it more likely they draw that piece
lol at the round 3 "nice 3:0 we just win here ... oh first strike" 🤣🤣🤣
oops lol
Paying the Saga cost against Merfolk. Emry > Whir :)
sucks to lose to BM merfolk dude, bc tribal deck talking shit is hilarious
Thank you so much for making these videos! I watched almost all of them, and especially your league videos reminded me why I love the deck. I was a pre opal ban player where after I kind of quit modern and your videos have gotten me to rebuild a lantern list and take it to my FNM!
I disagree. Lantern dies to Tasha's, and crabs mean that even land drops mill you, so every single card in their deck is live, ruining your lock strategy. And that's not counting the mavericks that play less popular cards like Mesmeric Orb, or maindeck Ashiok, or Ensnaring Bridge. Anecdotally, I've played one match in paper of Mill vs Lantern, and it was easy. And I was even playing against the best player in the store.
Yay
I really enjoy your content, but I very quickly lose interest, when they're matches replays. Is there a chance for you to do a league for us? -I already watched all the other league ones you have :D -It just adds a bunch more <3
More leagues will be coming! Around 1 a week is what I'm aiming for :)

Welcome back! Missed your content! :D
Back to regular uploads again!
I'm not here for 0-4 content. I want to see lantern crush other people's dreams, not mine.
I like to play one paraxod engine with emry for infine untaps (infinite mill). Easi ty hardcast and easy to find with whir. ✌️
Love seeing the lantern matchup vs traditional control. The mind games!
Blue Lantern, sweet. Thank you for the video
It's fascinating how Urza's Saga transforms this deck from a slow control deck into a resilient aggro deck.
I used to play this deck in 2017/18 around the time it won the pro tour in modern. I'm almost finished building the "go to" Azban build that this guy put up a few months ago
The deck looks fun but the 0-4 is dissapointing. I would like to see further iterations.
@37:04, why did you mill the 2nd Bridge? You know that there are only two in the deck, and that the opponent likely didn't keep a hand that didn't have some form of answer for Bridge. Having that 2nd Bridge might have prevented you from losing the game. @1:55:44, their menace guy no longer has menace. You *might* have lived if you blocked the Murktide (which no longer has flying) and the Stalker, then hoped to dig to bridge, and hoped that they didn't have any counters or removal for Bridge.
Love this Wrenn list!
Loving the diverse lantern showcases. Thanks for helping the archtype to continue to evolve. Have you tried any lists with Scheming Symmetry?
Woohoo.
Oh great one. I have been spreading this channels name everywhere for like 2 months. Please please grant me the knowledge of how to actually play control on mtgo. Like just a guide to how you manage your timer. I have just dipped my toes into the site and lost 20 bucks 0-10 from two leagues where i was moving as quick as possible.
I am working on a series of videos for new players getting into lantern. One of those will be on clock management on mtgo . . . stay tuned!
@@lanterninsights wooohooo.
Would love to see even more of this deck! Very fun and nice plays with Whir
I've seen some weird choices in my years, but bording out footfalls for RIP? Da fuk?
Very fun video! Thank you for sharing, I believe in this deck!
I think taking chalice instead of wish is better
Can’t see hand when on wide screen on mobile, so can’t adequately watch video
Do you have a favored budget list for lantern?
Been working on one but its not great - Lantern is already pretty budget compared to most of the format though :)
Emry could be budget instead of saga but ya lol eh
So essentially you win g2 and g3 if they don’t find lands or core cards of the deck
This deck is built to keep opponents off certain cards so yes
do you know how lantern works? that is the point of the deck. you dont control the gameplay, you control the very aspect of the cards they are allowed to draw
This will always be that deck that everyone would like to be invincible, cause winning throught its strategy it’s soooo jucy
39:00 I would have milled that land. Simply because it's more likely he had a force of vigor in his hand than a top deck answer to your ensnaring bridge. 46:13 You tapped the wrong mana here too. Could have used the green to cast the ancient stirrings, since it's going to be griefed away anyway.
First one I don't think its worth it to mill the land, as there is no way I can keep them off lands and green cards. Second one agree totally, probably should have stirrings first
Glad to see the most miserable modern deck of all time is making somewhat of a comeback
Why no surgicals?
Don't think its well positioned against the current meta :(
Thanks for the upload! @1:39:55, it's probably better to wait and draw the Duress here. You know that the opponent is on Scapeshift and that they've drawn a Scapeshift. You know that you will lose if they successfully cast that Scapeshift, so you need to get rid of it. You seem to realize this later on as you're digging for another Duress or Thoughtseize (and end up with an IoK instead). @1:41:32, if those Prismatic Endings were Assassin's Trophy, you could have let the opponent try to get Valakut triggers and Trophy the Dryad in response to counter the triggers. This would force the opponent to play around it (if they saw the line), meaning that you can then instead Trophy the Valakuts themselves. This also means that you could have drawn that Urza's Saga (which would have given you the Needle to shut off Ring). The opponent's only out then would be the Titan in their hand, but you already have Bridge for that. @1:46:06, it's best to blind-mill the opponent here. You can win games against decks like Scapeshift by milling their Valakuts by chance and/or milling enough mountains that they can no longer trigger Valakut without a Dryad.
ive never seen a lantern player make so many basic mistakes on esp playing lands incorrectly...
People make mistakes sometimes, yeah. Hell, I've been playing for some time and my recent video against Living End was pretty bad.
human error whilst also narrating for the camera. it happens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I definitely think taking the Tome is the right choice, game 2 of match 1. As tempting as it is to be greedy and take the Cling, if they rip the land and play Tome the downside is worse than then clinging once every couple of turns, imo.
Oh ya, especially with cling costing 4 to escape
gotta love that living end match, what a finish! lantern doesn’t often have those high drama moments 😂
