This movie went through so much and it turned out a masterpiece
You got that right, it went through an scrapped experimentation with motion capture and at one point miniature sets, Chris Farley passing away before he almost completed his lines, Mike Myers stepping in as the new voice and Dreamworks rewriting the script as a courtesy to Chris Farley, and a bunch of money being put into the animation to suit the Scottish accent Mike Myers came up with after he felt his initial normal voice performance for the film wasn’t that good. One hell of a troubled production that lead to one of the most well known films in cinema.
Ye that movie was definitely not easy back then with the technology they had and inexperienced team with brand new 3D animation. They went through hell created several experimental shots and a lot of them didn’t turned out how they expected it to be and ended up deleting and recreating new models So glad they didn’t entirely give up
The effort was worth it after all
Si tu que eres gringo te encanta con el doblaje inglés la del español latino América es bellísimo
And to think some of the animators for this movie came from Prince of Egypt as their punishment for not doing well with 2D animation.
these technical goofs are pretty much the only snippets of Mike Myers voicing shrek with a american accent instead of the scottish one he used in the final product
Sounds very different lol
It's strange, because although it doesn't really sound bad by any means, since we're so used to Scottish Shrek it's impossible to not feel weird watching it. It's like riding a bike with inverted steering
Actually Mike Myers did a Canadian accent before as he was Canadian :)

The last clip really suprised me.
The fact that his hair takes the shape of the crown..
That part cracked me up 😂🤣
I think the crown got the hair texture for some reason
fuzzy donkey is actually so cute 😭 he's very shaped
"Also animation is a medium not a genre" amen to that
Animated vs live action. If its how literally everyone defines two genres, then theyre genres. You can drop that line if you want, but you wont be invited to any parties

How is this not for kids. I actually remember watching these technical goofs as a kid and I thought they were pretty interesting and funny
Oh you know if you’ve been living under a rock then you haven’t heard about how CZcams is now. I put that disclaimer because they will possibly mark it for kids and you wouldn’t even comment on this video right now. I would just not put the disclaimer at all but CZcams could mark it for kids even if I set it to not for kids. So I have no other choice but to put a disclaimer so it will be less of a risk for CZcams to mark it for kids. This stuff has been happening ever since the Coppa stuff in late 2019 because they violated a law for not protecting children from CZcams videos or something because of ignorant parents that don‘t keep an eye on their child what they are watching on CZcams. And it’s all Susan Wojicki’s fault for making this stuff happen in the first place and made CZcams worse. Also I don’t care if kids watch this video they can watch it if they want. But I wanna make sure to have a comment section so everyone can express their thoughts about this video I mean it’s pretty boring to have a CZcams video with no comments at all.
@@raretendo6879 I’m not familiar with CZcams’s community guidelines, ad revenue, or how they trend videos. I just thought it was interesting saying that a kids movie is not made for kids
@@richardtennity4869 Well yeah because Shrek is a kids movie but it’s not just a kids movie it’s a movie that kids and adults can enjoy. After all animation is a medium not a genre. Because in recent times people see animation as an art form and not just something that’s only made for kids. Because animation is not easy to do it can take months and years especially whether it’s a tv show, a film or any media related to animation can take a long time to make which the artists who works on animated media have to draw every single frame that you see on screen. Shrek especially was a development hell because originally they wanted Chris Farley voice the character and figuring out what the art direction of the film would look, like stop motion, mocap, 3D, etc. However when Chris Farley died in 1997 due to drug overdose the film was completely changed even though Chris did record 90% of his dialogue before his death. So they instead casted Mike Myers and the film was completely changed especially Shrek’s design and it was decided the film would be animated by hand on computer instead of doing techniques like mocap. Originally Shrek’s voice was actually different he more had an American accent but when Mike Myers saw a rough cut of the film in 2000 he requested Dreamworks to re-record Shrek because he wasn’t impressed with his voice acting so instead he gave Shrek a Scottish accent in order to add more to the character which this resulted $5 million in order to change Shrek’s lip sync animations to sync perfectly but Mike Myers did re-record for free. Animated movies are not easy to make, the movies themselves are not even made by kids they’ve always been made by adults it’s not simple as coloring a coloring book page it’s like making an actual piece of art that you would see at a museum. To quote Brad Bird the director of The Iron Giant and The Incredibles “People think of animation only doing things where people are dancing around and doing a lot of histrionics, but animation is not a genre. And people keep saying, ‘The animation genre.’ It’s not a genre! A Western is a genre! Animation is an art form, and it can do any genre. You know, it can do a detective film, a cowboy film, a horror film, an R-rated film or a kids’ fairy tale. But it doesn’t do one thing. And, next time I hear, ‘What’s it like working in the animation genre?’ I’m going to punch that person!” If you would like to learn more about why animation is not just for kids then watch this video by Mason idk if you always think animation is just kids stuff maybe this video can give you a new appreciation of animation, if your interested. czcams.com/video/obyl-t6AlZI/video.html

I can relate to these goofs as an amateur animator where you need to be patient and work hard with trial and errors after waiting for hours of baking and rendering a few seconds animation. I works with both traditional and CGI but I prefer 2D due to these difficulties I have with animating CGI as well as I had much more experience with 2D.
2:32 This is the most hansome line I've ever heard. 😮😮😮😮😮
How fitting that Fuzzy Donkey became a memorable goof that a Fuzzy Puss in Boots was his successor in the technical goofs of Shrek 2
The one change you guys might realized in the Shrek techinical goofs is that Mike Myers never does an accent. After the movie was finished, they want him to read the lines AGAIN this time with a scottish accent on Shrek we know in love.
Nope original test voice was Chris Farley.
It was Mike Myers who requested to redo his lines with the Scottish accent. He was unsatisfied with his original performance.
The visual glitches paired with the music was absolute nightmare fuel to me as a kid. The music still kinda haunts me 😅
I remember watching this on the shrek dvd as a child. Thought it was hilarious and made me get into how animations are made.

I always find them fascinating when I first watched them.
I understand why early 2000s cgi got a lot of pain in the ass render bugs, I remember when I was in college back in 2009, when we use 3d software like Maya, render takes a very long time, and it got a lot of bugs you can only see when it finished, so what people do is to make animations during the day, and render the videos at night for hours and hours, sometime for days just for a clip of 10 seconds, then find out there are render bugs . Nowadays renders can be previewed beforehand, and are more stable and reliable, even free software like Blender can handle it way better than before
Hearing shrek and the characters voice fills me with comfort for some reason. Like its been years ...and i still feel that happy fuzziness i felt when bonding with the characters..weirdly like being remined of a safe time when everything was ok

1:21 early animation AYOO😑📸
0:33 - 1:22 👀
Why are all of these the scariest things I have ever seen in animation. I mean imagine if DreamWorks didn't fix the mistakes (however improves the style) and this would be in theaters with a bunch of children!?
Well if that happened then we would probably would not get a Shrek 2 lol. I mean back then people were amazed of the animation for how realistic it was. It’s why in the 2000s people would mostly watch an animated film in theaters if it’s in 3D or the very least if the marketing of an animated film pleases people. But since the 2010s people now just want 3D animation that replicates 2D like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Spider Verse for example. If Shrek was the same film but with unfinished animation that would probably would’ve made Dreamworks become bankrupted unless they would make 2d animated movies that were successful and if that happened Jeffery Katzenberg and the crew members would’ve been pretty upset and probably would cry after they spent over half a decade to greenlit the film which even though Katzenberg is an asshole that would suck if the animation of Shrek looked like it was in charge by Bethesda lol.
Why haven't that beautiful handsome Shrek face become a meme? Also, I would love to see a fluffy Donkey in the movie who looks like a plushie! He looks like that cheat from Planet Zoo where you can upscale the animals' fur so that they would become super fluffy like plushies! That would actually sell good if he looked like a very fluffy stuffed animal to kids!
Didn't know this movie was in production as early as 1999.
i remember watching half of these goofs on the Shrek dvd i had while sitting on the floor on repeat, good times.
2:16 shrek bought the fake headless 💀

The footage you see in this video is not mine. The footage belongs to NBCUniversal, and DreamWorks. I claim nothing and only used the videos for entertainment purposes.

In 1999 animation scene there is snow on mountain off the castle, in 2001 not. There were no texture
i love how alot of shrek's voice lines are those of when Chris Farley was cast as Shrek before Mike Myers took up the role due to Chris's death.

That Fuzzy Donkey makes him adorable. Lol!
fuzzy donkey is awsome
i remember as a kid i was so terrified of these animation errors...well, now i am a 3D Artist...irony
You know, maybe it was these that created my fear of Shrek as a little kid. Because when I was really little I watched the movie a couple times and enjoyed it, then I suddenly became afraid of it around age 4 or 5. I wonder if I poked around the special features, saw the weirder animation errors, and they scared me? If that were the case I’ve completely blocked out that memory 😂 Anyway, I’m very glad I grew out of that fear because Shrek is a top-tier movie.
Fuzzy donkey is hilarious in some shots. I wish they had used it in some kind of gag
i'm surprised at how much simulation is being used here. They already use hair and cloth simulation but what I'm more surprised is that they also use muscle simulation.
Fuzzy donkey is actually adorable tho???
Awww fuzzy donkey is so cute ✨✨
Amazing outcome
My father had only two movies, a music documentary and shrek, he watched it with his buddies before I was born. Interesting. Good times.

I would never have thought that they used the muscle system at that time for the cartoon. At that time, it was an extremely rare new technology, which began to be actively used only 10 years later. I wonder if this was just a test or they actually used this system in Shrek.

Great Memory for Maurice Tillet, whose image gave us Shrek!
Fuzzy donkey is basically a big rabbit
Is it considered lost media if these are included as a bonus feature on the DVD?
It’s lost media because it contains Mike Myers voice recordings with Shrek with a Canadian Accent before he decided to re-record the whole movie as Shrek with a Scottish Accent. Not to mention, the lip movements in the early animation are different than the final film because the whole change costed $5 million but Mike Myers did the re-recording for free.
