How to Install a Viair Onboard Air System, Air Lift Airbags, And Kleinn Train Horns A Ford F350!
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 6. 07. 2024
- We install a Viair Onbaord Air System, Airlift Airbags & Kleinn Train Horns on a 2017 Ford F350. This Air System includes an ultra-duty compressor that puts out 200psi of working pressure that's stored in the onboard 2.5-gallon air tank. We installed this system so we could control the newly installed Airlift 5000 Airbags from inside the cab of the truck. Since we had the onboard capability, we added a remote air chuck on the rear bumper to run air tools, & to air up tires on the truck & RV. Last, we added some fun by installing a Kleinn Triple Train Horn, because, why not!?

You by far, have the best air ride, horn, air chuck install video on the internet. Thank you!!
Thanks so much! Here's another video showing an install on our friend's truck that we helped with!
czcams.com/video/WjOp8S5q0A8/video.htmlsi=4SsZH9L5W8j7vGkD and
Iâm so glad you finally got your air horn!! Big boy toys!! Fun Fun!!
Beverly might be ready to strangle Kevin if Thomas uses it as much as us!
Thank you for all your time, you made it look easy, great professional installation. Definitely an improved ride when pulling the 5th wheel. Air chuck came in handy the first time we pulled out, two tires running low. Air horn is really awesome too!
Glad to hear the new toys are working out great for you!
What a very well done video! Great job editing everything. Great mix of shots. I love the train horn! Gotta get one!
Thanks for watching! I wanted it to show how we did everything with out getting slow or boring! The train horn is awesome.
AWESOME JOB! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this EXCELLENT video, PLEASE stay healthy and safe out there!

Just started watching your channel. Iâm a newbie Rvâer. Iâve been wanting to know how to install an onboard air compressor. I came across your video accidentally. Bam! Thank you for the education. Iâve also been wanting air horns. WOW!! Nice
Thank you! I have a parts list in the description of the video for all the items we used to install the system! If you have any questions, feel free to shoot us an email or reach out to us on our facebook page! facebook.com/Paving-New-Paths-100142058733326/?ref=pages_you_manage
This was a great video, a great write-up, and great description, SUBSCRIBED.
Thank you very much!
Very cool.. you made it look easy..great job.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Going to add a similar setup to my 2019 F250. Thank you for the details.
Thank you! Glad I could help, if you have any questions feel free to ask!
Excellent. This job is on my list.
I made a parts list of everything I used! It is an easy job and you will save yourself about $1500 in labor by doing it yourself!
First thing I did when I got my F-450 was install the Air-Lift bags. I put on the Easy-Air system so I could adjust the pressure on the fly with the remote. I also put the compressor in the bed over the wheel well to keep it out of the elements. Heard people were having shortened life/failure issues due to dirt and salt. Nice setup!
My truck has been running this same setup for over a year now! It was originally going to be in the bed of the truck, but I really didn't want it taking up space, so I installed it under the bed. So far, I have not had any issues out of my system!
Damn , awesome install đ outstanding. Great video . Thx for sharing . đâŸïž
Thank you! We like to do things ourselves and share with people how we did them so they can also do it if they want!
Youâre a legend bro
Thanks!
Excellent video!
Thank you!
Awesome video!â€
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice install!
Thanks so much!
Brings tears to my eyes! I have the same truck. I need to start saving my pennies. Love all 3 Systems. Great install. Great video. I'll save this one. Thx bud. Safe travels. bg
Thank you for watching! When you decide to do it let me know if you have any questions!
@@PavingNewPaths thanks Kevin
Dude you made his day I bet. Iâd settle for 1 of the 3!! Lol. Nice job đđ»
Thanks for watching! He is doing his best to wear out that horn!
@@PavingNewPaths hahaha. That would be me.
Great video thanks...
Thanks for watching Paul!
Nice video. Short and to the point. I just bought a f350 Lariat Dually and plan on install a onboard air system. Not sure on the air horn! Lol!
Thanks for watching! The Viair system is pretty awesome! Once you have the horn you'll always want one!
Dude i love your install. The same system, horn, air bag lifter and the tank. Clean and donât want to get rid of my spare tire. Will you do it for a fee i want the same on my 2017 f350 dually?
Thanks for watching! I doubt we could ever get our schedules to coordinate, but if you want any assistance doing the install yourself I would be happy to help!
So I saved this video knowing that when my 2022 F350 dually I would be able to go back and watch it so when I added my onboard system I would know where to mount everything. My one question was did you use self tappers to mount the air compressor plate to the frame rail and the tank brackets to the frame cross member? Thanks for the info.
Yes! I used self tapping screws and drilled pilot holes! I believe I used the biggest ones I could find either #12 or #14 should work just fine! If you have anymore questions send me a message on Instagram or Facebook and I can talk with you!
Awesome video , I have the the Viair and recently order the 5k airlift bags. How exactly does the paddle switch work ? For the release you just run a line that goes outside ? The only electric is for the gauge , right ? Sorry for all the question , I been looking around for information how to and you just got me super close lol
There is no electric needed for the paddle switch. You hook your air supply to one side and your air line to your bags on the other. When you press the switch to air up bags it allows pressure from supply line to air bag line. When you press button to deflate bags it allows air pressure from bags to leave through open exhaust port on back of the switch. There is no place on the switch to attach line to exhaust outside the vehicle. It however is not a huge volume of air so its not something to worry about.
I must say that itâs a clean application very well put together it would be cool if you could mount the equipment out of the weather â€â€
Thank you! I went with these components because they are made to be mounted in the elements! The system has been on our truck for 3 years now!
Nice install. What did you need to do to protect the spare tire sidewall from damage by the air tank brackets?
Thanks! There is no more contact with the spare tire against the brackets than there was with the spare tire against the frame!
Any chance you could post a picture of the gauges and switch connection? Having a hard figuring out how you did the air connections.
It is very simple your air supply line from the air system needs a "T" fitting installed on it and you run one line to a gauge to show system pressure and the other goes to the "IN" side of the switch! On the "OUT" side of the switch install a "T" fitting, one line runs to a gauge to show Air Bag pressure, and the other line goes to the Airbags!
Great video. Still debating myself if I should do the same myself or bringing the truck to a garage where they do it everyday.
It is not a hard process if you are confident that you can do it save yourself the money! I called a place to get an idea of the cost I saved and the Quote including parts was $3700. I only paid $1500 for parts so it was a significant savings by doing myself and it was done exactly how I wanted it!
My local guy wanted $1000.00 just to install my air horn. I installed 2 Viair 444c compressors, the horn, tank and air chucks for just the cost of the toys. This took a day and a half under the Jeep, but the satisfaction was worth almost as much as the money I saved.
Looks good, I just bought a 350 dually and it came with bags., they installed the compressor in the bed which really ruins my ideas of hauling dirt, branches or whatever other junk we throw in our beds... so how has the water, mud, dirt issue been on your mounting location??? I would like to relocate the compressor.. 2008 XLT Dually
So when I installed it I did a poor job of remembering to drain the system of water, and ended up having to work on the system and the water caused issues with the pressure switch relay and the tanks check valve! After we repaired that I added a remote Drain Valve so I could drain the system from the cab using one of the upfitters! You can check that video out here! czcams.com/video/bLstKbve68Q/video.html
Our Air compressor lasted 3 years of daily use before we had to replace it, when I took it apart you could tell I did some damage to the cyclinder walls when I let the water build up! So as long as you remember to drain it the location under the bed has not affet on the life of the system!
I added the same air compressor to my air tank. One thing they don't tell you is that you need to run a water separator or it voids the rust warranty of the tank. Their big idea is that you get under there once a week to drain that tank. So i got a normal air separator at Tractor Supply and its amazing how much water it catches.
That is why I installed the drain valve and tank where I did! I can reach it through the wheel well and open it up to drain! They also don't tell you that even with draining you are likely to have to replace the tank every 3 years due to internal rust from the water!
Could barely hear that little horn :) ... but dang what a nice install! great system man
Thanks for watching!
Hey đ guys congrats đ on baby , howâs Alecia doing
Thanks so much! Doing great!
would be cool if lowering the bags would go back into the tank.
That would be cool but would never work, The tank has a system pressure of 200psi and is always maintained by the system! The bags will have a max of 100psi in them, even if you plumbled it back to tank 100psi is not going to flow towards 200psi! Almost all air systems will have an exhaust dump and will never recapture the air!
Yeah it would be but that's how a hydraulic system works đ
The oil returns to the tank but it is not under pressure when it does, you already have an unlimited supply of air not under pressure all around you, why would you need to recover it?
Did you just use self tapping screws for the tank and compressor?
Yes but I drilled a pilot hole first.
liked, commented and subbed
Thanks for Watching!
what is the part number for the electric drain plug you installed??
The remote drain valve I installed is from this video here czcams.com/video/bLstKbve68Q/video.html
all the parts you need are listed in the description!
So quick question really wanting to do a setup like this but to just run my bags and some air tools how do I install the switch to inflate and deflate how do Install 2 gauges one for air in tanks and one for the bags I'm going to run the compressor to a toggle I understand the rest of it just not the gauges and switch
Ok so you want to take an airline that has system pressure, using a Tee Fitting you will run one line to a System pressure gauge and one line to the input of the paddle switch to air your bags up! This will give you the pressure that is in your tank! On the output side of the paddle switch (to airbags) you will install a Tee fitting and have one line to a pressure gauge, and one goes to the Airbags! The pressure you read on this side will be the air pressure in the bags!
Great video! Just wondering on the compressor wiring did you connect both the power line wire and switch wire to the truck's upfitter?
No the whole system operates on the pressure switch relay from viair! The upfitter is just the on signal to the relay! You run a dedicated power and ground from the battery to the relay! It operates based on the system pressure in the tank, less than 160psi and the compressor will turn on, it will run to 200 psi and turn off!
@Paving New Paths The pressure switch would still be in the mix. The Viair pressure switch would just get its power and be controlled by the uplifter switch instead of being connected directly to the battery. This way it would only run when I have the uplifter switch flipped ON and when pressure is low. Just tying to understand why the need for the direct battery connection if that's the point of the upfitter setup is all.
@@rayr4975 Thats exactly how it works, the pressure switch relay gets power and ground from the battery directly, the upfitter is the on signal for the pressure switch to be active! So when its on it will only run if the pressure is below 160 psi in the system!
@PavingNewPaths Great setup. I take it that pressure switch relay came with the kit? I did not see it listed on your parts list. When wiring it to the battery did you use the 12 gauge wire? Thank you..
Update: Hooking up the compressor to the uplifter switch worked just fine. Been running it for months without an issue. Also I had to heavily modify that mounting bracket you have listed.... it wasn't as straight forward as this video shows. Guess that's just editing magic đ
how low did it cause the spare tire to hang?
It hangs in the exact same spot this is why I mounted the tank the way I did! I wanted it to be as OEM as possible!
Where did you run the intake filter?
Mine runs up behind the taillight and is zip tied to the taillight wiring harness!
Awesome thanks
what is the part # for the bumper air quick connect?
That was just a standard 1/4 NPT female to female QD from lowes.
How do you connect the black plastic air hose to it?
They are compression fittings. You remove the nut from the fitting and slide it over the tubing. Then you slide the tubing onto the fitting until it is tight, then slide nut down and tighten
Itâs hard to see what you did with locations for different parts. They donât actually line up with the parts such as the gauges.
Also Iâm not sure how to get the parts list.
The parts list is in the description of the video with links to all of them. All of the parts I used line up with where they needed to go for our system to work! This is not a plug and play we bought several things and made it work for our goals!
Where did you run the air lines into the cab?
For this set up he wanted the controls and gauges by the steering wheel so we pulled up the door sill and the rocker panel by the emergency brake! We drilled a hole in the rocker panel by the E brake cable, installed a rubber grommet and ran the lines into the cab there! For my set up I have the controls and the Gauges in the toolbox under the rear seat! I drilled a hole at the rear of the cab and installed a rubber gromet and ran them there!
@@PavingNewPaths awesome, thanks for the info. I'm installing mine and debating on where to put the controller.
In the Video you watched they are by the steering wheel! My truck I installed them under the rear seat in the side of the under seat storage box! You can check that out here in this video! czcams.com/video/d_pCfeOtFS0/video.html
Bro can I just hire you to do mine lol
If you're near east Texas, I can definitely help! ;)
One of the best upgrades you could do, get rid of those bottom of the barrel rancho shocks and replace them with some Bilstein 5100's...
This install was on a family friends truck. But we did just make a video where I install Bilstein 5100's, and upgrade the airbags on my truck!
@@PavingNewPaths I was SO disappointed with the rancho shock that came on my truck(2020 GMC 3500HD AT4), GM really screwed the pooch when they went away from Bilstein...I now run 5100's...
Our truck is a 2020 Ford F350 platinum dually, I thought the rough ride was due to the dual rear wheels for a year. It is night and day difference with the bilsteins!
@@PavingNewPaths Nice truck...
Did you use Self tap pers to install tank
We did! We drilled pilot holes first and secured them with self tappers!
Thank you. How did you supply air to the via air gauge in the cab.
We have done it two ways! The white truck in the video we used a hole under the drivers side door sill near the e-brake cable there was a rubber plug we drilled a hole in and used as a grommet! On my truck the controls are under the back seat, we drilled a hole in the cab and installed a grommet for that one!
Thank you, sorry for all the questions. I ask wrong question. Did you run air line from manifold to air gage in cab. Not the air bags. You only mentioned one supply line going to cab.
@@Tmil1035 You need to run a system pressure line into the cab so you can see the pressure on the gauge and have it on the paddle switch to inflate and deflate the air bags! You also have to run an airline from the paddle switch in the cab back to the air bags!
What keeps the airbags from pumping up after sounding the air horns?
We have a manifold where we have a system pressure to each circuit but they are all controlled separate from each other! The train horn only sends air to the train horn when we use it and the airbags only air up or deflate when we adjust them! Doing one function does not affect any of the other functions in the system!
@@PavingNewPaths it all comes in the kit?, I have airbags already on the truck with compressor and just put horns on was looking for a kit to run both
@@brandencb19 Technically it all comes with each kit and you have to make it work for what you want! In this video we had the viair compressor which was one kit, the airbags which was a different kit from another company and the train horn which was it's own kit! We added a manifold so we can have multiple system pressure supply lines and were able to tie all the kits together for our system! if you want to add a train horn to your kit you just need to supply the train horn a system pressure line from before the air bags and you will be able to use it with out affecting the bags!
@@PavingNewPaths yes Iâm looking at the compressor and tank kit now, plus the manifold thank you
@@brandencb19 If you have any more questions reach out to me on facebook or Instagram and I can give you a schematic of how I set mine up!
†which train horns you can deplete the air pressure in seconds, with only one air compressor. â€. I can blow my airhorns for long periods of time and my. 4 VIAIR compressors, will keep up with the air demand for very long periods of time â€â€
For what we use ours for only one compressor is needed! You only need more compressors when you start getting into suspension systems that need air on demand faster!
đđ·
The reason I have 4 air compressors is I like rapid recovery really fast on my 2 1/2 gallon tank I put the system in my truck because I need to wake people up once in a while so they wonât run into me when theyâre jacking around with your phone
What would it cost to install air bags and horn?
I think the total cost for all the parts we used was around $1500. Took us around 2 days to install everything, but we were trying to film the process so it takes longer!
@@PavingNewPaths Very impressive work you do, I have seen a few videos. Should receive our new F350 DRW in April, thinking I should update immediately. Pulling a heavy Redwood 5th wheel full time.
So this install was on a friend's truck and mine is identical to this, except I mounted my gauges and switch in a different location! I put it in the side of the storage compartment under the back seat on the driver side!
I also recently did a video where I made some more changes to my truck including swapping out the airbags from 5000lbs to 7500 lbs bags. I also show the location of my gauges and switch, along with several other upgrades!
If your intersted go check it out here.
