      @@harrywalker968 Take note of his comments regarding available space onboard the vehicle, and his comments on purchasing a product that suits you. Didn't see any service stations out on those tracks so is it just the one tyre inflation for yourself per trip or do you tow a trailer full of fire extinguishers? Or maybe you could think about a 3 phase rotary screw compressor with diesel 3 phase generator mounted to your roof.

    Looks good. I run 2 x outlets in my drawers for the air. 1 is run through a pressure regulator on the manifold set to 40psi for pumping tyres. That way I don't have to keep checking tyre pressures when filling. The second port is unregulated which is great for cleaning filters and dusting off camp gear.

    You don’t need the manifold, you can plumb the pressure switch/safety relief directly into the tank, saves you a few dollars. I’d also up your pressure and relief to a 150 off/120psi on switch, and a 172psi safety.
    Another compressor option is an endless air, they are an engine mounted compressor that performance wise smashes just about every 12v compressor on the market away. It’s a great compressor if your space constrained.

But overall it beats so many other setups in terms of function and looks! I'm half tempted to have something like this in my truck however I don't off-road like you Aussies do lol. My truck is stock and can't do the crazy stuff. Right now I just got a new portable compressor to replace the old handmedown that was at least 25 years old lol. There are two critical parts missing in the system. A check valve and a bleed valve.
    Listen to any garage compressor as it shuts off when target pressure is reached.
    You always hear a valve bleeding the pressure line between the compressor and the tank.
    This is necessary to keep the start up amps of the compressor low, as it doesn't like to start cranking the piston against the back pressure of the tank.

    Couple of things to keep in mind. Or changes you can do. First off, is have an air gauge mounted next to the air chuck on the drawer face. That way you don't need to keep opening the lid to check the gauge. Second, good luck getting to the drain easily. Since you have now buried it underneath, and the only way to access it is to remove the tank. And third, most, air tanks are rated for a max off 100psi. So getting a 145psi safety relieve valve, might not be a good idea. Because if that safety ever fails. You now have a bomb.

    Awesome video, you will be @ 100k soon & shipping you 4wds off to America to go next level! -only joking.
    I am doing a system with budget bits & including home made rock sliders doubling up as air tanks. It will be interesting to see how much punishment & bendy they can take before they will start to leak.
    You might already be aware of Nate from Dirt lifestyle on YT, I think he is in North America/Alaska, he did a series on a popular budget rebranded to death world wide compressor that is available here in AU through the regular suspect & outlets.
    Of which I bought both the twin piston & a single piston variant. Nate did a whole lot of mods & improvements to this compressor that was really interesting & is doable with budget tooling. So it maybe the same benefits could be performed on other brands or re brands as a lot of the bits are standardized.
    He made his own manifold but if Air on board sells them I might forego the skill practice involved.
    I wish I had of know of Air onboard, their gear looks not too bad.
    I can't wait to be able to pump up my inflatable flamingo floatie! If I get dual tyre inflator, I will have to go & buy a 2nd flamingo & then I will be over my GVM.

    LOVE THE VID MAN. off topic but do u think u will ever go a bigger tyre size. im same boat as u with 2" and 33s but it looks small and all my tracks around my place are cut by 35s and 37s. its a touring rig like yours but i still wanna go offraod at times

    • @AussieArvos
      @AussieArvos  Před rokem +1

      i rate the 33" , they are legal, they get good fuel ecconomy, they'll do 99% of what i want it to do, did some pretty good wheeling up billy goats in the snow last weekend on the 33", if anything i'd be adding a front locker. like don't get me wrong the car would be sick on 35" but just don't wanna become cop bait, and i want to do a fair bit of touring in this car in the coming years.

    great video!!! just a quick question about the tuff terrain inflator, if you hook it up to one wheel does the air instantly start coming out the other wheel nozzle until you plug it on the second wheel? hopefully that makes sense

    • @AussieArvos
      @AussieArvos  Před rokem +2

      No it doesn't, they are air tight Chucks so they only let out air when they are connected to something, so it's actually pretty good!

    To get faster tyre inflation times with a tank, the Schrader valve needs to be removed. A depressed Schrader flows about 2.5-3cfm and when removed from the valve about 30cfm. Airtec and Milton make air chucks where you can inflate with a removed valve core. I've gone 18-38psi into a 315/75R16 in about 17 seconds. (Though that doesn't include the time to unscrew and screw back in the valve)

    I’ve got a Hilux with minimal space, so was going to go with the smaller single ARB compressor because of size. But I’m in Wdyte so these guys are super close.

    Get a Makita 18V compressor (DMP181) and a Makita 18V blower (DAS180) together with a corresponding car-charger (DC18SE) and you are finished (obviously you need a battery, too). Not only don't you have to *build* an air system, you don't have to deal with hose-lenght or storing a muddy hose.
    You can carry these tools whereever you want (help out people without having to move your car to them, blowing up a dinghy directly beneeth the water instead of carrying it from the car through the woods to the water etc.). And you have a basis where you can useful expand on, for example a small chainsaw (DUC254).

    The tank won't help remove humidity once it gets hot, which will happen relativly quickly with such a small tank.
    Install a cooler between the tank & compressor, and/or a water seperator after the tank.

    For those that want to muck around with onboard air for very little money and achieve a very competent - $199 for everything you need when they're on sale at BCF/Supercheap - Item No. 605484 - don't pay the rrp of the rydge ryder stuff for $449 as it's still pretty cheap stuff quality wise. The tank and compersor come apart and you have everything you need to remote mount them seperately. Add a retractable mini 8m air hose for around another $50-100 if you're don't want to fuck with randome lenghts of hoses and quick disconnnects and you've got onboard air for sub $300 all inclusive that cranks good flow rate, has a 6l tank and will be very similar to stopping at the servo. Fitted this setup to a budget prado build I did a while back for a laugh and it was outstanding.
