    Never twin up your air bags. Air gets forced to one bag or the other when turning which exaggerates body roll

    @jorrick66 Před 3 lety +1

    Food for thought; I get the wanting a mechanical set up instead of relying on relay switches and what not. Instead of having the valve that you have to roll around in the mud to turn, plumb an air chuck from the tank to your hitch. Then plumb your bags to the hitch with schrader valves on the end. Chuck up a short air hose, shoot some air to them and go. Still mechanical, easier to fine tune, don’t have to lay in the mud, still separate from your horns.

    Did a ton of “internet research” when I bought my towable and ended up with equalizer weight distribution/sway control hitch. Very happy I ended up on that one. I have a 36 foot 10,000lb trailer and have had zero sway.

    Equalizer hitch is great. I had one for years when I had a bumper pull. In the 60s or 70s they hooked that hitch to a front wheel drive car with a trailer and took the rear tires off the car and drove it around. Works incredibly well. Now I have a fifth wheel, so I dont have it anymore.

  • @robertpabst7501
    @robertpabst7501 Před 3 lety +2

    Josh, you should have just set up an air chuck hook up on your tank, run Schrader valves on the bags and use a coil hose to fill your bags and/or add air to your tires if you ever had to deflate them in low traction areas. I only run about 15lbs of pressure pulling my 37' 5th wheel just air it up to the point the truck and camper are level.

  • @InterstateTravelCrew
    @InterstateTravelCrew Před 3 lety +2

    The bad
    1 push locks will rot and leak air (winters)
    2 no height level gauge to regulate air pressure
    3 over air the bags to blow out
    Should haves
    1 compression fittings
    2 leveling height gauge to release over pressure of air bags.
    Pros
    1 smoother ride
    2 balance the load on the trailer to 25% -35% tongue weight.
    3 2500 or 3500 truck springs

  • @joshalright1225
    @joshalright1225 Před 3 lety +4

    Make sure you isolate both bags at least with a valve bc when you turn its gonna push down one side but lift up the other as the weight shifts it will increase body roll

    Josh the best weight distribution hitch i ever used was the Eaz Lift 1000lbs weight distribution hitch . Price is around $360 . I very use Reese hitch they are ok for the money they run about $259. But for me the Eaz Lift works so much better. And if you get your weight distribution hitch and bars. In the future I suggest a air shocker hitch with weight distribution hook up. On this hitch it has a airbags between this hitch and ball. It takes out lot of the forward and back motion due to rough roads. Its a expensive about $600 . But it gives you such a better ride. Check them out. Its called AIR SHOCKER HITCH.

    • @davidschmidt449
      @davidschmidt449 Před 3 lety

      Or use two levelling valves one on each side so it stays level from side to side.
      When you install them you can adjust the height they hold by the rods that attach to the axel.
      If you pump them bags up that hard it won’t rid very well as the bags will be hard full of air.

For your Reese hitch goes I really like shocker air Hitch Company it's a great hitch for hauling heavy equipment. I think I would run a set of gauges inside your truck for your air compressor as well as two different valves so you don't have to leave the cab of or your truck. You might forget one day you lower your truck to get it inside your garage door this is where the gauges would come in handy as well as you're not crawling around in the back of the truck on the ground just a thought.

From a 67V (15 series MOS and tech inspector) cut your tie wrap off from under the truck on the air line and use one on the horn and the other through the tie wrap on the horn. This keeps the plastic line from chafing on the horn body when in motion. Great job! Salute!

    B&W trailer hitches.... a good resource is another CZcams channel.. Big Trucks Big RV's... he provides a lot of information on trailers, RV's, hitches, load distribution... etc... He tests a large variety of products and reviews them. Look him up and contact him for information. I know that since you have a lift kit on your truck. Lift springs are weak for heavy loads. Designed for a different purpose. You can add some "add-a-leaf" spring to assist the other springs. I would even look a a heavy rear sway bar as well. You can probably find one in a salvage yard vice brand new. But a good front and rear bar and bushing set will help a lot. You have had bags before, but just know you need keep some air in them. Most brands don't like being ran empty even with out a load. Some people go to the trailer and flip the axles. Gives a small lift... to raise the ride height of the trailer to work with the ride height of the truck. Especially a lifted truck. Because as you know, you want the trailer level when hitched and under load. The other source would be where you purchased your travel trailer. Ahh, one last note... pay close attention to the load ratings of the truck. The truck can have all the power to the anything and everything.. but if your load exceeds your load ratings and you are in an accident... if it determined. The load was heavier than the rating... well you can see where this is going. I mention it because it is often scoffed at and later regretted... Of course the next level is bigger brakes and exhaust brake !!

    Josh, you should replace the petcock style water drain valve with one from a class 8 truck. It's basically a brass toggle switch type valve that has a wire cable on the end. When you pull the cable, it releases the air and drains the water at same time without having to go under the truck. When you release it, it closes the valve automatically. Just run the wire between the frame and bed and secure it with a small wire loom bracket. Check out a class 8 truck as a reference to what I'm talkin about. It would suck having to go under the truck on a rainy day or in the mud. Also, need to isolate each bag and don't run bags at max pressure. Safety issues and ride quality will suffer if you do and trailer will try pushin your truck in turns causing a jackknife. Love ur videos. Keep'em coming.

    If I was you and you find yourself using this system a good bit you could run your air line out to the bumper and put you valve somewhere more convenient other than having to climb under your truck. And your drain petcock replace it with the style you can pull on a cable to drain your tank. You would be able to hide the cable fairly easy. I hope you can picture what I'm trying to explain to you. And this is just an idea to help keep you out from climbing under your truck and everything still work as your video showed. Because climbing under the truck in wet conditions suck lol. Thank you again for the awesome video!

    Josh I'd go see a trailer sales place near you to talk about weight distribution hitchs they deal with that every single day cause they can help you with a new receiver hitch to the stock ones after this many years bend and the welds snap and rust and that leads to tire ware on the trailer tires and rear tires on the truck

    You have the gen-y hitch already by the weight distrubution kit they make for it

    I like it really. I mean just like you said simple and easy an if anything goes wrong won't be hard to figure out were an what. But I believe it will be alright myself you should fix you another place to were you can have air to put air in your tires or even a impact maybe. But air for tires would be nice to have on a long trip too another good video btw.

    Maybe I'm just used to my transport, but why not plum a cheap leveling valve into the system? Then you can set your ride hight and be able to pull in and out of the garage safely in the event you forget the bags are inflates.. Just a thought. Either way awesome video as usual!

    Add bleed off valves after you're on and off valve so you don't have to drain your tanks

  • @KP0117
    @KP0117 Před 3 lety +4

    Love the set up and price. My only concern is water getting in you airbag lines because it’s running out of the water drain. Try to use a T fitting on top where you have your horn lines running, same set up just no future water issue. But I may be wrong... let me know what you think.
    Keep up the awesome videos man!

      After working on class 8 trucks for over 43 years, it will be worth the little extra effort to reroute your line to the top of the tank as it is now the lowest point in the system water will collect and freeze, may not burst the line but then your bags will be isolated from he tanks. From my experience here in Muskegon area, it’s seems to happen at the most inconvenient time. Also one of the other comments suggested adding a height control valve, not a bad idea. Also a filter before your supply lines to horns and bags. Just food for thought! Good job!

  • @ekim466
    @ekim466 Před 3 lety +1

    Really need to know what your psi is in the bags
    You should update your trailer coupler also
    Maybe put some longer permanent ramps on there as well every time I see you pull on there I cringe.

  • @nicholascote8469
    @nicholascote8469 Před 3 lety

    You should have bought from air lift Single needle gauge panel with one paddle switch, part #26161 and ran a supply line from your tank to the gauge then from the gauge to your airbags that way you actually know how much pressure is in your bags and it’s still a mechanical system no electronics

  • @PhillWickert
    @PhillWickert Před 3 lety +1

    This is the style hitch I like to use and have used for towing. The second link is a leveling valve that you could use for the bags so you never have to adjust it. It would just keep the truck at ride hight and I think there is a dump control on it too. Also I would recommend not having your air supply line coming out of the bottom of the tank. As with the cold temps coming you don't wanna push water into your bags and have them freeze.
