Truck Master: Look up Roadmaster Active Suspension (RAS) kits.
    Affordable and easy to install.
They stop sagging from a load, stop axle wrap, and act like a sway bar.
So you get 3 benefits in one system.
They act like airbags, traction bars, and a sway bar all in one easy kit.
You should really try them out.

  • @randylavine3003

Absolutely they work! I hit black ice towing a 36' bumper pull RV and did a 270 (the truck) on the freeway. The trailer stayed upright as it slid onto the shoulder (trailer did a 180) and came to a stop. I believe if I did not have the distribution bars on it had a very good chance of tipping over.

Josh, nice video. Al Moody is correct. Make sure the trailer is level and loaded with full water and gear. A slightly higher or lower level will overheat your tires and it will suck to pull. Also you may need to install TPM in the trailer tires. This will keep you informed when you puck up a nail. It will eventuality happen. Btw... if you have good H20 at the house fill your tank at home. Some camp areas have terrible water.....

So I have a 31’ trailer just like your camper and I have the same hitch but the old style bars and I have towed it 3 times with a uhaul 17’ box truck that was empty and the trailer we live in and had all of our stuff in it. Now there’s 3 kids 2 adults and 4 dogs in my family. Now towing it with the uhaul truck was amazing to my surprise I didn’t even notice it there at all. Yes we had fresh water in the tanks. I would love to update the hitch setup as my trailer is an 04 and has the same bars and all since factory.

Good video! I use to run without weight distribution and sway control. Thinking I didn’t need it and it was a waste of money. Till one day I was pulling my enclosed trailer on the highway in the rain and wind. I passed a semi and a car I was following break checked me. Which sent my trailer into a white knuckle lane swapping experience. Since then I spent the money and can cruse with piece of mind and no more fighting a trailer.

Glad you bought the hitch, definitely the way to go. Wait until your truck is loaded for the trip, the additional weight of your family and bikes or stuff in the bed. I always loaded the bed it will handle even better .I always had a golf cart, a huge igloo cooler or firewood in my bed when pulling my camper ,even a few hundred pounds makes a huge difference in the stability of the truck. You,ve got plenty of rear axle with that 11.5 AAM. The ride then will be like a car, im not exaggerating ,w weight distributing hitch makes a night and day difference in the ride quality, all the bouncing goes away.

I towed mine over 8000 miles and after w while you get a feel for what the truck likes . My 2 different GM tow vehicles were identical to yours in configuration . 153” wb, 9200 GVWR, one was an 04 LB7 Duramax and one was is an 8.1L /Allison which I still have . With a front heavy short bed pickup crew cab diesel like yours is possible to move too much weight , you’ll feel it taking off you can easily spin your rear tires without meaning too and you set yourself up for a possible jackknife in an evasive maneuver situation . If you have to turn pretty fast while braking hard that’s when the trailer can push the rear of your truck. Once there’s some weight in the truck cab and bed and you dial back the WD a touch , you’ll have a rock stable setup . Some of the best years I had w my kids were when we were camping . Great times !

Leaving tomorrow to buy a new tow rig, my 1 ton (2002 f350 super duty) pulls my Ice Castle fantastic but it needs a new body and its my plow truck so prior to a long drive I always drop the plow, which is a pain because I'm cheap and run an old western straight blade lol
Picking up a 2013 suburban 2500hd, 12,000 pound bumper pull rating and seats 7 so it should work great for hauling the kids out on the lake. Also stops me from burning so much straight number 1 through a refreshed motor, those -40°F temps out on northern lakes always make me worry about running g any #2. In the semi I dont ever worry because if its cold I just don't shut it off if im in it, so the only time I may have a problem is at home. Out on the lake with the whole family relying on the diesel to not gel id just assume get the terrible fuel economy in a gasser.

been towing camp and construction trailers of various lengths since 1987. I measure truck static from ground to ball mount, then set the trailer weight on the ball and measure again. I adjust the bars until the trailer settles the truck half of the difference. Then I adjust the ball height until the trailer is towing level. People who tow with their trailer tongue high or tail high risk overheating the tires that are carrying the most load

Josh I have pulled travel trailer for over thirty-five years. Before you start adjusting the weight distribution bars. First thing I would do is load the camper with essential things. Then fill your fresh water tanks and then test it. You don't want to put to mush weight on the back or front. Try spreading the weight throughout the travel trader. Once you get where your comfortable on the ride and handle. Leave it there. Adjusting to your standards and where you feel that you and your family is safe on your travel.

You need trailer level so you don't bottom out.

Good video. Those are great hitches and they do work great. Like you said play a little bit to fine tune the setup. Don't forsake your airbags, a touch of air will help too. Plus keep in mind the bed is empty and basically so is the trailer. So adding items to the bed equals weight and of course packing out the trailer full of gear adds weight. So the hitch and bags are going to work with one another. Keeping everything level and even weight distribution is a success . Nothing worse than a long drive fighting a trailer the whole way. But when you have it right, it is a easy ride. Less wear and tear on all, truck, trailer and driver ! A good rear sway bar on your truck will help aswell. Over time you might find that shocks can be matched to help work with the load and shock function front and rear. Again, when you pull in after being on the road all day. You don't want to feel like you've been driving hard all day. Then if you really get into it. You will find there are some great trailer axle changes that can be made. Welcome to the world of RV'ing ! It's a great way of life. Your going to enjoy it, and so will your family.

Since i have a 3/4 ton truck my trailer only sags 2 inches with no W/D hitch, so i was mainly concerned about sway. For the Anderson is not as much meant to be weight distribution as sway control, but it still does weight distribution too. But sway control is amazing and with it i only sag about an inch or less.

You may have to adjust hitch height and/or bracket on the rv frame after you have your camper loaded with all of your gear. It will make a difference in the ride height. The dealer set mine up and I had to raise the ball 1 slot. Then adjust it down when I got my Duramax. Play around with settings and you can hit your sweet spot and safe travels.

Do not buy that Cummins by a project truck it’s more fun to work on it I want to see a build like the Duramax but maybe not so much in depth

@@TruckMaster I got a quick question for you and if you don’t know and your not sure just tell me. Need your explanation and help. I have a 2008 lmm duramax. Previous owner blew motor I’m not sure how at 61k miles. I bought a different motor that has so called 77k miles. It’s fully deleted with 5inch exhaust, intake, and ppei auto cal efi live. I checked blow by and I have some white smoke coming out when warmed up but it doesn’t blow the cap off at all, is this normal. Also am I supposed to do the pcv reroute. I’m not sure. I’m seeing people with zero blow by or any smoke. Why does mine have it. Is it normal. My buddy has a 2013 lml duramax all stock with def still on and he has more smoke than me but still no blowing cap off. Is this normal for my truck, is my motor bad? The motor looked really clean so it has to have 77k miles but it was already deleted when we got the motor. Did I get a bad motor. Does both your wife max and your dmax blow slight smoke but didn’t blow cap off too?

I’m on my 2nd Equalizer hitch, probably will stick with them for the next one too, just make sure your camper is level or 1/2 inch to 1 inch lower in the front after you get the truck where you want it, I found that if the camper is slightly higher in the front it will sway a little

You would have better off in a Gooseneck converted fifth wheel RV or Toyhauler! Bumper Pulls Suck!

I agree anything longer than 24foot needs to be goosneck or fifth wheel and yes they can do it for lifted trucks might cost a grand more to put the lift kit on the camper but it can be done my dad does it everday
