      I think it is worth it because there is more fluid so when the warm fluid mixes with the cool fluid since there is more cooler fluid then it should help keep the transmission somewhat cooler. There is a drain plug too which can come in handy.

  • @TheCoopMan
    @TheCoopMan Pƙed 3 lety +14

    I’m all in favor of deep transmission pans but there are some things to keep in mind
    Your transmission comes up to temperature by processing the fluid through. More fluid simply means it’ll take longer to come up to temperature and/or change temperature. Once all the fluid has processed through however it should be about the same temperature. The upside comes from when something goes wrong. Because you have more fluid to use, problems that would cause overheating are cushioned and give you more time to notice and more time to stop and check. What would cause the temperatures to be lower is dissipating heat. This is caused by those fins you see on the outside increasing surface area and allowing it to get rid of that heat outside of the pan.
    The point is-
    The problems that cause overheating are still going to be there. If you’re having overheating problems in your transmission this will not fix it. Those who notice lower temperatures often or once you drive shorter distances therefore their transmission doesn’t have the time to come up to temperature.
    You should also wear the extra cost associated with owning a deep transmission pan. The best thing you can do with an Allison is regular fluid and filter changes. If having this pan makes you want to stretch out those fluid changes you’re going to cause more harm than good.

    GM transmissions are Known for running too hot , without addition of larger tires or under Load .
    Some GM trans technically reach fail temp just cruising along Empty .
    Yes I would say that the Larger Capacity should help .
    Sadly mine is a 6.5td not duramax w allison +PPE cover.
    My truck has been sting for a year , the fuel pump fail which locked up shift solenoids & snapped the sun gear . Yes it's an intentional design defect . The Pumps internal winding can't handle half the current draws .
    There is a Fix for this by separating the systems power sources & wish I knew this in advance .
    I wish I had the $ to do a Cummins swap ; as I pull my 5th wheel w my dually & got stuck in WV instead of being in SW RN 😱

    For sure worth it, It REDUCES HEATin 2 ways 1. As another user commented the more transmission fluid there is the longer it takes to heat up and 2. The material these pans are made of is often a better conductor of heat than stock not only because of materials used but also even if the oem version has similar material it’s smaller which means less material to soak up heat from the fluid (important to note overcooling in the winter does exist and can be a problem use a fluid with good cold flow properties that won’t turn super thick in the winter redline fluids and amsoil fluids are good stuff for this I hear, also make sure if you get an external trans cooler you still keep the original internal oem cooler so that the engine helps to heat up the fluid faster, and it doesn’t hurt to consider a thermostat made for trans oil.) oh and btw although stacked plate coolers are known to be great for cooling capability and having a lower pressure drop than tube and fin style coolers they also can impede flow more than tube and fin and can be ridiculously expensive, consider a tube and fin that has copper tubes aka copper core and aluminum fins they actually stand up pretty well to an all aluminum stacked plate cooler and are cheaper without potentially restricting oil flow, the only downside is the slightly higher pressure drop. it also as stated in this video strengthens the transmission and acts as a brace almost like how sheathing braces the framing on a house. Additionally the extra fluid capacity means your fluid will last longer before needing changed and this is especially true with good fluids like redline or amsoil or even royal purple etc.

    The PPE Deep Pans and Deep Filters in theory seem to be a good idea especially on Motorhomes and Medium Duty Vehicles with reasonable ground clearance that see severe duty. Additional oil and good filtration is always a good idea. My concern is that on Light Duty Vehicles - particularly GM 2500 / 3500 Series that are stock height used off-road, the Deep Pans and larger Filters sit in a rather vulnerable position. I have a 2500HD that is used off road and twice I’ve had to flatten the bottom of the stock pan and replace the internal filter due to the pan came in contact with some rocky terrain. As you can see I'm not crazy about lift kits and I can only imagine the issues one may have with the PPE components that hang this low. Another thing - I really surprised that PPE didn’t decide to manufacture and distribute a shallow version of the deep PPE Allison Spin-On Filter - considering there are zillions of Silverados out there that see severe duty that aren't lifted this would be a no-brainer. Also, lately there are a LOT of great reviews on the Mobil 1 Delvac ATF which meets TES-295 specifications, is recommended by Allison and is extremely cost effective compared to other fluids that people use.

    Hey jash I have a quick question I’m new on the diesel trucks đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł but thanks to you tube and your videos I'm becoming a professional đŸ€Ł so what you recommend me I have a 3500hd gmc 6.6 duramax and currently it has ranch shacks but I feel like it bounces a lot and I have a little baby and I would like every time I take him with me the ride for him be softer and more comfortable. I heard that the gmc denali 1500 Have magnetic shock what do you think which brand you think would be good for my truck??

      That Banks video was really informative, I never realized that the shape of the cover really effects the way that the lube is displaced inside of the housing.

    Two words about PPE trans cooler.
    It does look like a quality cooler but - BUT!!! - why the fuck you included only six bolts instead of eight?!? It may not be a too big of a deal except that
    1. I had to go to the hardware store in the middle of installation. Fortunately, I have three more vehicles, all Toyotas, so I had options others may not have.
    2. If you can't count to 8, how can you be trusted with making ANYTHING?
    3. If you cut corners by skipping 2 bolts, what other corners have you cut?
    And finally, PPE is the second most expensive cooler on the market. Not sure it was worth it - those 5 times cheaper may not be any worse...

    I installed the PPE trans pan on my 2006 lbz duramax. My question is
. Does the dip stick need to be changed to get a proper reading on fluid level? I have put 11.5 quarts in so far, ran to operating temp, and am showing right between cold/hot marking. Thanks!

    • @ronfrance4041
      @ronfrance4041 Pƙed 3 lety

      The stock dip stick is all you need. If you got a longer dipstick(which I doubt they make) then there would be no point of this deep. The pan is for gaining fluid
