I think that the T-1000 has the ability to mimic human emotion and expression so that it could blend in with humans and get around easier without arousing suspicion. But over time, it probably can develop genuine emotions of its own. My favorite part was the look on the T-1000's face when it reformed after being shattered and thawed, like it was making the death of John Conner and the destruction of the T-800 its personal priority.

I would agree with you, but remember that he made most of those emotive expressions when he was on his own. Heck, now that I think about it, you could even say that he was probably *annoyed* by the husband of John Connor's stepmom and that's why he killed him instead of simply leaving him be.

Skynet could not control them, the T-1000 was suppose to be like a new "skin" for the T-800s, but ended up self-aware.. The T-1000 we see in Terminator 2 is most likely fighting for Skynet and goes after Connor because he is choosing to, not because he is programmed to.. He doesn't actually have to kill John Connor if he doesn't want to. In the Sarah Connor Chronicles we are introduced to the T-1001 (Catherine Weaver) who has her own agenda.. She's not with the resistant but was building something to fight Skynet at the same time, but isn't John Connors enemy either..

They do have one glitch effect in the theatrical version. After the T1000 leaves the T800 jammed in the gear, he turns around and a wave glitch travels up to the top of his head. Now this wasn't a memetic glitch, like the rail or the floor, but a glitch nonetheless.

In T1 he even killed one of the main characters, an extremely dedicated, prepared and skilled soldier who destroyed dozens of various hunter-killer machines. It took almost dumb luck for Sarah to crush it with a press.

I loved the way the T1000 presses through the bars, and then gets the gun stuck as if he's forgotten he's holding it. It's a great touch. Also, the strange look he gives the silver manikin .
But, there's one there too which is much more subtle. Robert Patrick put in his firearm's training and worked to eliminate the 'flinch' reaction most people have when firing a gun, because a Terminator wouldn't do that. You can see it there at 4:48 perfectly.
It's nuances like this that show a care for the details. So many films lack this.

James Cameron is such a goddamn genius that even my mom likes his movies, and she generally despises sci-fi movies. I showed her Terminator 2, Aliens, and Avatar. Then she thought: "maybe I actually like sci-fi movies after all." She went on to watch other sci-fi movies and quickly came to realize nothing comes close to the quality of James Cameron.

They did so many amazing things in this movie. From the gloomy lighting in the psych ward to the lighting in Johns foster parents home, reminded me of my old childhood home. The mall arcade scene and scenes outside totally remind me of the LA atmosphere (obviously it was filmed there so). But even the scenery that takes place in Mexico looks like somewhere you'd find near a small rancho in the country. I remember watching this at a drive-in theater, it was a double feature showing with Congo.

No one is doubting that Robert is very talented and dedicated but I'm pretty sure that his striking good looks also sealed the deal in getting him the T-1000 role. That and Billy Idol's accident prevented him from taking it. If Robert had been ugly or just not that physically appealing, people would not have been as fascinated by the T-1000 as they had been and still are.
