When the crowd gives a retiring player a standing ovation it is because he was one of the greats but when on top of that the opposing team gives him an applause it is because he has also been a gentleman.
That last hit by Stan 'The Man' Musial was his number 1,815 in games played at home. On the road he also connected exactly 1,815 hits, one of the most amazing statistics in baseball history (final total 3,630).⚾
Great baseball towns know how to show appreciation for great retiring players, even when they play for the other team. Miami is a TERRIBLE baseball town for letting Andre Dawson retire in front of an empty stadium. He should have ended it in Chicago. Cub fans would have showed him true love!
Add to that the fact that he wanted to be depicted in his Hall Of Fame plaque wearing a Chicago Cubs cap but they decided against his wishes to show him with an Expos cap.
My favourite moment is Ichiro's goodbye in the Tokyo Dome, and esp the moment he berated Dee Gordon for bowing to him. Never found out what he said, but body language to me said "not worthy"... very touching moment
Saw there were a few tributes to those from the left and right coasts, but overall - Midwest much???? Ya missed a BUNCH of greats that weren't necessarily from the Detroit/Chicago/St. Louis area.
Stan was an absolute LEGEND ! Dawson was something to see- on any given day he could hit one out. Thanks for that memory, Hawk ! Ozzie Smith was one of the slickest fielders in MLB history. Biggio was STEADY ! how he didn't get into HoF on first ballot was a disgrace. Ortiz should have hung it up 5 years before he did ! He was one-dimensional and spent by then. ET Willie McGee was a QUALITY player - could do it all..... Adam, Yadier and Albert were Cardinal LEGENDS.... cannot replace them ! It could be looked down upon as blasphemy, but Ichiro could have been the best baseball player of all time . Beltre' was VERY steady and really underrated !
i disagree with what you said about ortiz... maybe you were thinking of someone else. he posted a .1021 ops in his final year. he was mvp caliber, and had at worst a 140 ops+ over his last 5 years.
@@20minutes14 So he could HIT with his arms extended- that's all.... He COULDN'T PLAY ANY POSITION IN THE FIELD or RUN PAST 2nd base. If he hadn't given his "Boston Strong" speech he would have been released long before. HoF is biased toward Boston and Yankees.
Dude, arguably the greatest hitter in all of baseball, he played in four decades, lost five seasons in his prime, and homered on is last at bat, and you don't have Ted Williams on either of your episodes??? You call yourself a baseball fan? Get off your butt and do some research!
Hey shitstain, there is no TV broadcast with announcers of Ted's, so I had to find a radio broadcast and dub it over the video to make it worth putting in. It is in part 3. The first clip, actually. I made these for fun, for free, and not to get bitched at by women like you. Get off your butt and make your own videos jizz guzzler.

Albert, Yadi, and Waino... I loved them so much, so glad to have had this time with them!

You know that Dawson could've retired against the Cubs in Chicago right? I'm sure it was his choice.
Miami does suck for baseball

I don’t think you know what berated means.
Big papi hurt. We miss him
stan the man
They don't make Baseball players like Stan Musial anyore. One of a kind.
Was always a Willie McGee fan. Former Giant.
same. Dad was a Stan Musial and Cardinal fan so I grew up watching the Cardinals and loved that early 80's team, especially Willie and Vince.
I have a baseball with Ozzy signature along with a bunch of all-stars, from a All-star game in Tokyo Japan
End of an era. Now with the new time rules standing ovations won't be happening unless the hitter wants start the count 0-2. So dumb
ikr the pitch clock ruins the game. it is supposed to be slow

No. It isn't.
They CAN make an exception for those special occasions

Holy shit. I'm not ready for when Kershaw retires.
That's what he did in his whole career just bat!!! No defense...
Who
Batters are also contributors to team success ⚾
That media circus with Papi is just shameful.
