There are many risks with smoking in general. In regards to spine surgery:
- smoking can lead to more bleeding
- smoking less to worse outcomes
- smoking lowers fusion/bone healings rates

I am a Vaper and I had spine surgery 2 months ago. I healed up quickly and did not have the problems usually experienced by a smoker. Apparently the British Medical Association is correct in reporting that Vaping is significantly safer than smoking.
