  • Eric Schmidt the ex-CEO of Google once said, brands are the solution, they're not the problem, right? It's how you sort out the good companies from the cesspool. And I'm paraphrasing his quote, but you guys get the point. It's pretty much saying brands are important and brands are a key factor in Google's rankings.
    RESOURCES & LINKS:
    ____________________________________________
    How to Build a Global Brand (7 Shortcuts I'm Using to Build My Brand Internationally): • How to Build a Global ...
    Growing Your Brand on Facebook: • Growing Your Brand on ...
    How To Create A Compelling Brand: • How To Create A Compel...
    Ubersuggest: neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/
    ____________________________________________
    So, I once, over time I noticed a trend, more and more people were typing in my domain name into Google. So my domain name is neilpatel.com for one of my sites where people are typing in my name, Neil Patel SEO, Neil Patel tools, Neil Patel Ubersuggest, Neil Patel content marketing, et cetera variations of my name.
    And what we found is if we didn't build links or anything, well our brand spiked from PR or whatnot, and it spiked for a month or two, all of our ranking skyrocketed. And even when the PR went down and the brand queries went down, our rankings maintained or close to maintained to their peaks. So we found that Google loves brands.
    Like, we've seen and tested sites in different regions globally. And even if you build links, you write the right content, you're super thorough, we found that if you don't have brand queries, you don't rank as high. But if you have a ton of brand queries and you barely have links or anything like that, your ranking skyrockets.
    There's an algorithm change back in 2009, that was a big brand update, I believe. And since then, bigger brands have been getting a benefit. Now, "bigger brands". It doesn't necessarily mean you have to be a bigger company, right?
    You don't have to be a Nike or Wikipedia. You just have to be a big brand for the keywords you're trying to rank for. And you don't have to be the biggest brand. You just have to be somewhat of a brand. Like, my brand queries suck compared to Nike I get roughly a hundred thousand visitors a month from people googling Neil Patel even though my domain name's neilpatel.com. But yeah, I still rank well, and so does Nike but Nike probably gets a hundred thousand queries every single minute.
    You do CZcams, you're on social media, you blog, you speak at conferences, you build a brand. And you do that whether it's personal or whether it's corporate. and just look at how much business you got because of brand, not a lead, you have rankings and get traffic to your site, but it also helps generate business as well. And you can do that for a corporate brand, and again a personal brand, but very few people spend time and energy into it.
    So I stick with the rule of seven. When someone sees your brand or hears about it seven times and interacts with it seven times they're much more likely to become a loyal follower. Again, whether it's personal or corporate.
    So, simple things that you can do is, one, collect emails. If you collect emails, anytime you update your content, or have something new, like a CZcams video you can always blast it out. Two, you can do push notifications. So, anytime someone comes to your site, have them subscribe. Anytime you have new content or want to push out a message, let them know. Three, leverage social media all of the channels out there, because they believe that you're not going to find someone on one channel or another, but you know, if you leverage all of them you'll get something. It's better than nothing. Four, engage with people.

    Hey Neil, in the last year I have been searching for cooking recipes on Google. I’ve noticed that when I go to almost any of the top results for these searches, the quality of the page is not good. They have a lot of text, but the ads on the page are so extensive they make it hard to even see the content. Even worse, some top results write about a recipe and do not even contain an ingredient list. I end up clicking off of these terrible pages and scroll down on the results to find what I’m looking for. My question is, why are these terrible pages ranking top 5 results if they aren’t what people want? Hope you see this, I’m really curious what your thoughts are.

    • @neilpatel
      @neilpatel  Před 3 lety

      This is because that's how those sites are making money so they all do it. They monetize their site for ads.

    • @RockUmagic
      @RockUmagic Před 3 lety

      @@neilpatel shouldn’t the ones loaded with ads suffer on their seo for load time and people leaving the page because the ads are so obstructive?

    • @mirandacox3751
      @mirandacox3751 Před 3 lety

      @@RockUmagic not necessarily. They write a lot and have ads to generate income. Think about a recipe. If you want to know whether standard pancakes have one or more cups of flour in a batch you are gonna search for that very quickly. The sites that tell stories and have lots of ads are keeping the information visible "upon request" so the store can monetize it's content. The blog needs it's audience to commit to a certain amount of time of reading before it's considered worth it or it will fail. It's all about keeping people on the page as long as they can to get the information they need and satisfy the ad quota.

    • @RockUmagic
      @RockUmagic Před 3 lety

      @@mirandacox3751 I’m sure that’s correct. I just feel the SEO ranking is a bit broken for the consumer/end user. My thought process is: Compare two pages for an apple pie recipe. Page 1 is long, blog style text with ads on top, middle of page, and pop out ad in front of the text as you scroll. The ingredient list is at the very bottom IF it is there at all. Page 2 has minimal ads at the very top and right side. It’s well formatted and to the point, with a photo, summary and description at the top followed by the ingredient list and step by step instructions and ending with any tips or notes.
      Now, on which page can you quickly confirm that you want to use the recipe? Which loads first? Which can you see the ingredients first? Page 2 by a mile.
      And yes, sometimes pages that look like Page 2 rank top 5 frequently (how it should be IMO). However the page 1 types are ranking top five very often, and I don’t see why they should rank above the pages that deliver more efficiently what the searcher is looking for.
      And further, if you had a page that was just like page 1 that was ranking poorly, and you watched Neil’s videos for tips, you would find that the only thing you’re doing right for ranking is having ample text.
      There is surely more to it, but that’s how the situation appears to me.

      I personally think it's because google benefits from 'those adverts' that you see, and therefore keeps their site ranked high. it's gotten extremely bad in past 2 years in my experience.@@RockUmagic
