    I bought the Bayliner over the Tahoe for a few reasons. As an entry boat for someone wanting a low risk learning experience, the Bayliner is as simple as it gets. It's two pieces (hull and deck), removable fuel tank and battery. Super easy to maintain. Far more storage space in the Bayliner as everything under the seats is usable. Easy to clean, just spray down the deck and under the deck. The cushions that can fly off when trailering are the center cushions, not those described in the video. I don't use the center cushions as it provides full walk space bow to stern. M hull design has its trade offs, but is awesome when lounging and fishing. I liked the Tahoe, but the Bayliner was a better choice for me. This video is clearly a marketing hit piece poorly disguised as an unbiased comparison.

      Everything you said positive about the Bayliner holds true on the Tahoe. "Easy to clean and maintain ". Minus the cushion issue AND the M hual which is honestly not better in any way then the Tahoe . Not to mention many of the points listed in this video.
      The Tahoe honestly has all the pluses the Bayliner has AND more with non of the negatives the Bayliner has.
      The Tahoe is honestly a much better boat.

    I have a 2022 bayliner m17. Very nice boat. Well thought out design and came with A LOT of options that I always wanted. The bimini is great for all day sun. It's a little bit of everything, pontoon/ski/fish. That's why I like it. Very wide and stable with lots of room. Rides across choppy water pretty good but if you want a all out tight turning ski/tubing boat get a v hull boat. I would buy another m17 or m18 but my family likes to chill and stay out all day. The price I paid for the bayliner was well worth it. Mine has a 90hp 4 stroke mercury and it has tons of power and more speed than I need. Stay safe boating out there!

    Even though this is a Tahoe commercial, it does seem like a better built boat. Swim deck, finished inside storage etc. However, the current 2022 base prices no longer make these boats comparable. Bayliner is $6k cheaper. Good thing I am super athletic :)

    Excellent review. I owned the Element 16 for about a year and wish I had gotten more of a conventional V hull design. Bayliner calls it their M hull. The only advantage is that it's very stable at the dock or when not moving at idle in the water or at anchor. But because it's not a V that cuts through the water and pushes it to the side if there's even a moderate chop the boat smacks down onto the water such force that it'll knock your tooth fillings out. Very harsh ride. Plus I could see from the video that the finish looked at a higher level on the Tahoe. The Element was pleasant at anchor but not underway. I got exactly the same top speed as he did 31mph and it was sluggish to get on plane (I had the 60 hp Mercury) . I can't picture this boat ever being able to pull a skiier. If I remember the 75hp according to reviews did not add a whole lot of zip to the boat. If I got another boat in this class it would be a V hull and the Tahoe looks like it would fit the bill.

  • @MikeBarnett1776
    @MikeBarnett1776 Před 3 lety +22

    One positive for the Bayliner is the aft sundeck - it appears to be usable underway, while the one on the Tahoe is not. I liked your comparison, though I, like many others, noted you definitely have a Tahoe bias that seems to be a bit deeper than strictly the results of your comparison - better dealer margin, perhaps? Nonetheless, an informative video.

    The hull design on the Tahoe is brilliant. The Tahoe appeared very trimmed up as opposed to the Bayliner. which may explain the bow ride, but I think that hull design bring almost a stability element like my old tri hull. Stable at speed and fishing

  • @azmagister
    @azmagister Před 3 lety +16

    This is a very biased video gearing towards the Tahoe. I've been doing quite a bit of research on these boats. The M hull design provides stability on the water that minimizing rocking and very easy to board. Therefore, does not lean when making turns. One thing, I did not really like is that the helm does not have a gas gauge on the bayliner. "Let me lift up the seat so I can see how much gas I have." Huh? They failed to mention how much more seating the Bayliner has. About 25 perfect more. That's pretty huge. That's about it for now. I'll keep you updated.

    • @bfarm44
      @bfarm44 Před 3 lety

      You didn’t watch the same video then. Clearly the Tahoe was a lot more stable in the turns and faster on plane. We were going to go with a Bayliner but will wait till spring to do an on water comparison ourselves and I’m betting the Tahoe wins. Bayliner, like Harley, is relying on their name

    • @azmagister
      @azmagister Před 3 lety +2

      @@bfarm44 It's quite obvious, that your biased towards Tahoe as well. You failed to recognize the pros and cons of both vessels. Therefore, proving my point. The information provided was in regards to on the water and boarding, not performance in the turns. Please read thoroughly. On your behalf, to reiterate your perspective. Tahoe has a deep v-hull which allows maximum performance in the turns. This is due to the deep v essentially carving through a turn versus a level turn due to the m-hull design with the Bayliner. I hope you are much more informed with the related information. Happy boating.

    The Video is produced by Tahoe and of course skews in that direction. Why did the Tahoe not have the optional Bimini on it like the Bayliner did? Because, it slowed the planning speed and top speed of the Element so it was not apples to apples test but great marketing video.

    • @mattsloan32
      @mattsloan32 Před 4 lety +3

      @@Metal_Stacking Still going to slow you down, maybe not so much in the hole shot but definitely at top end. Both of these boats look extremely under powered. Many similar sized boats rate for much higher HP. But of course they cost more too. Video was definitely skewed for Tahoe but both of these are entry level boats at best. There is a sweet spot for price to performance and these come in at the bottom of the list. But they get folks out on the water that probably could not otherwise. A few of them that should not be out there too lol.

    Informative but go deeper - I believe bayliner includes a trailerable snap cover - Tahoe is a ratchet cover and is an additional $700. I have a 2020 bayliner e16 - under powered with a 60 hp. Thier bimini top was $500 - the Tahoe bimini is $1250. Thats almost $2000 for a couple of aluminum poles and canvas. I appreciate the no haggle on the Tahoe - But I aint paying an extra 2k for covers! Thats almost pure profit - I'll negotiate those on the Tahoe or they can give me more for my trade - or i'll just keep the bayliner and maybe up-power to 75. Stay tuned. Also the battery location for the tahoe is awkward - direclty under the driver and access through rear seat panel and you have to reach in...minor details perhaps but important - also it should come with a battery shut-off switch - not standard as it is in the bayliner.
    Still - a lot to like about the Tahoe in terms of comfort, design ,and quality.

For those newer to boating, this might be a sales pro instead of the implied con it is in this Tahoe marketing bit. Also, the 'step on cushion' issue doesn't exist. Where was the motor trimmed during the holeshot test? How was the motor trimmed during that clip showing how the boats handled chop? It looked like the Bayliner was porpoising which is a trim issue, not hull design. See my other comment. Bayliner had an extremely harsh ride because of their "M" hull. Look at the cross section of both hulls from the front view. The only place the Bayliner would be okay would be on a glassy smooth lake. I don't have personal experience with the Tahoe but look at the difference in the bumpiness at 5:18. Do your homework but from this comparison I'd say get the Tahoe.

    This Tahoe video is no longer accurate. The Tahoe is certainly the better boat; however, you can still get a new bayliner for 16k but Tahoe raised the price of the T16 to 21k. That is a 25% increase! I no longer consider that an affordable entry level boat. I’m aware of how crazy inflation is now but that seems ridiculous for a boat this size.

    This is a good video, except the part where you let go of the wheel. You want the boat to make a turn when you let go of the wheel, that is by design. If you get thrown out of the boat you want it to circle back to you instead of going straight.

    • @mattr3194
      @mattr3194 Před 2 lety

      The outboards I have owned actually have an adjustment on the fin aft of the propeller that you can correct for the natural tendency for the boat to want to pull one way or the other. I didn't know about it until someone showed me. You move it a degree or two and the boat will track dead straight.

    • @survivalistboards
      @survivalistboards Před 2 lety +2

      @@mattr3194 Yes, I think just about all motors have that adjustment. But you do not want the motor to track dead straight. This is a safety feature if the captain becomes incapacitated, or falls out. You see a boat moving in a circle, after circle, after cirlce, you know something is wrong.
