Is This The New Best Spark Plug Option For The N54? | BMW DIY

- In this video I talk about a new spark plug offering that is available for your N54 powered BMW. It is the NGK 97506 which is two steps colder than stock. This is a suitable option for a heavily modified N54 powered car. Examples would be tuned with E40 or E50 running a stage 2 tune etc. In my case I'm moving to this plug given I have upgraded turbo chargers and my one step colder plugs (NGK 95770) are not up to the task. I've gapped the plugs to 0.019" and am running stock coils at the moment.

I run these plugs at a 0.020" gap on my 750whp 135i and they work great!
PS: You need a magnetic BMS spark plug socket.
Nice, upgraded coils?

I run the same plugs same gap runs great 335i n54
You're too legit to quit! This content is a must for this platform. Keep it going!
Be heavily modified i tried them at stock and stage 1+ MHD on the advice from BMS.. with eldor coils gapped at .20 and .22 stock but, stock bosch worked much better. With your mods im sure you will have a much better outcome👍
These are great plugs, no issues with em. I use a .018 gap at 20psi
Your videos don't disappoint
Picked mine up at bms gapped to .20 runs great
Thank you brother, I used your link & ordered a set. I found out NGK ILZKBR7B8G 97968 have replaced the 97506 spark plugs.
Best spark plugs on the market for a FBO n54. They are on the pricey side but worth it. 👍
Lol my boys 328i had spark plug issues and the regular mechanics make it seem so damn hard and took 4 hours to change em. After watching this he does em on his own in 45 minutes 😂
Yeah bro I have an engine N20 and it’s easier to do it on those then the N54
Nice! Always excited to see a new video. 550+whp would be a nice compromise with the single walbro 450. What I'm planning on as well. Dont really want to run 2 unless I have too. Interested to see how far the single will go.
Thanks! Yeah so far I stay in the high 50s in terms of low pressure PSI under load with the single. I think it's flowing enough for now.
Yeah man for sure. Ok nice... yeah I got a donor assembly and fitted a 450 to mine. 5 series fuel assembly is different then the 3 series. If it comes to it I would just go full bucket less with 2 450s. Are you running full e85 now or still on e60?
Ran these on my pump gas 430hp 135i and the idle was pretty rough. Went back to 1 step colder and all good at my power level
Currently I’m running on pure stage 1 turbos fbo and I’m using the new Bosch plugs as well as new Delphi coils. I’m only running a stage 1+ tune as of now but the oem seem to work just fine for now but I’ve definitely been looking for an upgrade
The keep them till they give you a problem
My N54 335i has a custom map IC + DP, slightly under 400 hp. During last spark plugs change I decide to go with one step colder Bosch ZR5TPP33. I decided to try those spark plugs on stock gap first. I did everything right, car started, was silky smooth, cranking short. 2 days, and about 30 miles later DME was fried! Now I'm really not so sure about this one-electrode spark plugs upgrade, especially with MSD80 DME... I don't know, maybe I should gap them at first, if this is any issue at all... Anyway at least for now, I'll stick to OEM Bosch spark plugs. They were totally fine with my setup, no issue at all. In the end, just be careful with modifying ignition system in car...
Very nice upgrade. How long will these last probably, on your boost? btw 0,019 inch is about 0,5mm?
Sir i am about to buy the turbos that you have can you pls let me know how they holding up? I want to xhanve em myself. Pls let me know. I watch a lot of your videos btw thank for all the help!!
What Gap would you reccomend for an N54’s that’s producing 360-400bhp? I’m thinking of changing to these plugs and some websites reccomend 0.22 and others say 0.35 on the stage 1 colder plugs??? What is the correct gap to use? Thanks for your awesome videos as always!
Great vid, thank you so much! Do you know what the gab should be for 335i N55 2011? Appreciate you!
Need some dyno numbers od tge DAW turbos nextm
hey v-diy,
I need your advice sir. my car is tuned with mdh stage 2+ stock turbos , I am having occasional misfire. which spark plug you recommend? previously you recommend to use 95770, on this video you recommended 97506. Please let me know. I appreciate your help.

This video couldn't have came at a better time.
Btw what scan tool would you recommend?
I'd just use the code function of MHD, it manufacturer specific codes.
Lol u read my mind about the turbos
Hey everyone, looking to get spark plugs soon.
I’m only at about 390-410whp max, I’m looking at both 1 step and 2 step colder. Should I just get the 2 step colder plugs to avoid getting them later? If so, any downside to that? Or should I just go with 1 step colder since I’m using stock turbos, MHD stage 2. (2011 335is)
I have these in my upgraded turbos car gapped to 0.22" gap but it misfires post shift sometimes at high rpm not sure if its my slightly leaking injectors (I'm replacing soon) or the plugs. but I say everyone should gap it to 0.20" or 0.18" instead.
0.20 seems perfect
Would you recommend ngk 2 step colder plugs with bosch coils. I'm in the preventative maintenance stage but my goal is fbo but right now my spark plugs are misfiring
So if I’m just trying to get very very solid spark plugs which one should I get ? I’m completely stick
@vehicular diy ? For ya I have a x6 w stock N54 I’m Getting ready to do index 12 injectors and was gonna do Elsie coils and new plugs. ? Is so u think the 1 step colder NGKs will work on/with stock n54 (I run 93 octane ). Don’t wanna waste the $$ on them if the stock n54 won’t like them…. Let me know what u think. Thanks in advance!
@ Vehicular DIY ? 4 ya. Stock N54 x6. Gonna do new plugs and eldor coils what’s your thoughts on 1 step colder plugs for stock N54 93 octane.??? Hate to waste the time and $$ on em if there gonna give me probs ?? Let me know thanks in advance
So I installed coded 1 plugs on my N54. & noticed under heavy wot I get a hard shift from 3rd-4th. Just replaced my trans too that’s not the problem. Literally started feeling the jerk after I installed the plugs. I think gap could be a problem, they’re set to .020 but don’t know what other Gap I should try
How r the turbskis??
Those are factory N55 plugs right?
hey how is the ebay intercooler doing so far? im thinking of buying same one.
Which spark plugs should I use for a 2006 550i bmw for more horse power ? Can I use these ?
I'm having a hard time gapping the plugs bc they rebound after you close the gap. What amount do you gap the plugs to get them to stay at .022?
NGK 95770 have been replaced by NGK 97968 ILZKBR7B8G Laser Iridium Spark Plug.
you need a magnetic spark plug socket
You got a valve cover gasket leak?
How many miles are you do on those turbos now?
I have a 2008 335i N54 if I’m completely stock but will go fbo soon would it still be good if I get these spark plugs just to be safe before getting the FBO anyone ???
can you explaim how spark plugs affect high boost turbos?
Can I run these on my stock n54 but I plan on making more power in the future
What tuner you went with?
Hey man, thank you very much for the new information
Jus a question please, how can I know my ECU if it is I8AOS or IJEOS..etc?
It's based on the year. N54tech has all the info
Also most OBDII readers will tell you.
Consider upgraded coils. You can increase the gap a little afterward as well.
Looking into it, thanks.
@@VehicularDIY precision coils?
My mans dropping teasers to the fuel pump 😭
Could u run this a stock car
I cannot for the life of me with the same socket get it to bite and loosen my spark plugs. Suggestions?
HELLO, YOU ARE AWESOME. I AM NEW HERE.. DUMB QUESTION BUT WHAT THE HECK? WHERE DO I BUY PARTS FOR A 335I?. do you have one or two favorites?
My go to is ECS Tuning. They are an affiliate but I had been using them for years prior.
FCP Euro. Lifetime guarantee on parts and fills.
I wish some one shows or explains a feeling of torque for those with out the wrench
Typically you get a mushy feeling as the crush washer on the spark plug collapses but these have copper washers so it's a more direct feeling. It's about a 1/4 of a turn after the spark plug fully seats. You can buy a basic torque wrench for 25 dollars now days so it's worth considering.
One should never torque into an aluminum thread without a torque wrench. You will be sorry the first time you screw up.
Which plugs and gaps would you recommend for a stock N55 running on E95?
ilesoft82 ask your tuner
No way a stock fueling system can handle that.
What should you use for a N54 FBO, MHD Stage 2+ (93) map?
8 months later, did you get an answer? I’m looking to swap to the 2 step colder but I don’t know if it’s worth it for just FBO stage 2+ on stock turbos.
@@phoxracn9 I'm +1 to this thread. exact same scenario with MHD2+ 93.
I bought them I’m almost fbo all I need is fmic currently running stage 1 but my car is misfiring so I’m switching spark plugs
I live in Houston just wondering if u have your own shop?
I don't have a shop but know the owner of Eurocharged Houston if you wanted to get some work done.
Nice upload as always. I just did the 95770 with new Bosch coils in my 07 335i, which currently has the Split Second Turbo Tuner MKII installed (by the previous owner) and the car pulls so much harder than before. Removing that soon and doing the MHD stage 1 flash. Curious how different it will drive with MHD.
BIMMER ZEIT what is the split second turbo tuner?
@@HDGnvrsleep google it
Get on MHD it’s probably the best n54 tuner at the moment.
Guillermo Lopez got my cable and fire tablet with app installed. Just need to find time!
I have just fitted these plugs on my 2010 135i N55 gapped to .022in . I'm getting cold start hiccups, is their a fix for this? Car is running stage 1+ at 400hp
Stage 1+ @400whp is a little optimistic.
Question; I have a N55 completely stock but I am gonna get a tune eventually so would this spark plug be with me getting in the mean time???
The 95770 should work well for that application.
No tune there is no reason to change plugs.
This how my spark plugs from my e46 Bmw at 12k miles.
Ruthenium seems better than iridium.
Hi. I have 335i N54. I got NGK Iridium sparkplug. Many people told me with iridium spark plugs I can have detonation inside the engine. Is that true? Please help me. Thanks
Which NGK Iridium plug? They vary in heat range and length.
I tried running these FBO stage 2 e85 tune bef and ran like shit - too many missfire problems went back to stock and no issues
You went back to stock Bosch plugs?
Do you recommend to run this on stock turbos
It would depend on how much boost you are running, if you're running on 93 and not pushing the stock turbos you could go with one step colder plugs.
My friend, I don' upgrade my turbos, so I can use this Spark Plugs?
You still good benefit from them ya if you're running higher boost. If not I'd probably go with one step hotter plugs.
@@VehicularDIY Thank you, So, I'll keep the stock spark plugs
I'm on impression that these are 1-step colder on n55 motor and 2-step colder on n54 motor.
You are correct. I am about to install the N55 plugs into my N54 because NGK 95770/5992 are hard to find right now.
BTW, at that price 110$ for 6 spark plugs it's a total ripoff. I bought 6 of these exactly the same here in Europe for 54€(approx 60$).
Sande Halonen get the spark plugs on fcp euro for 120$. They have lifetime warranty. You will never have to pay for them again after😁
@@messi13578 yeah, works if you live in the states. No point when you live in europe. For example, when they break, it takes forever to ship them to states + it costs a lot and when FCP send new ones back to you it also takes a while... And honestly, if you drive like lets just say 10k miles a year, these plugs will last at least couple of years...
Sande Halonen did not know that. That’s a bummer. Still recommend them if you live in the states!
Is it bad to run these with stock car?
No but it wont run as efficiently you’ll lose some gas mileage. No point in running a colder plug unless you plan on tuning at some point or are already tuned.
You still havent heard from your tuner ?
I have not, I'm going to ask Spool Performance if they've worked with any other tuners that know how to incorporate their overdrive system.
@@VehicularDIY I had really good response with jake at motiv motorsport . He tuned my e93 single turbo .. the car ran good ..
@@VehicularDIY Ken has a lot of baggage.
Jake has a good reputation.
How are you finding boost leaks?
Both times there were obvious failures so didn't have to pressure test or anything.
Definitely not the best plug for a Modified N54, Ruthenium is best with PSPE tips. NGK 91784 LKAR8BHX Ruthenium HX ngksparkplugs.com/en/products/ignition-parts/spark-plugs/ruthenium-spark-plugs
Ken aka Wedge performance told me an auto should hold 600 ft/lbs that's about 550 measured at the wheels. I was hitting that with 23 lbs of boost, stock turbos.
NKG its in Germany the Best for N54👌
NGK is a Japanese company.
@@SaroG the Best for tuned N54
Haha did you say higher boost can blow the spark out? Lol its a bit more scientific than that.
Mad fucking late bro. You gonna drive the price of those up now.
Are seriously using a impact gun to to remove the plugs !!!! Geez.
