      Cause I cant find the 4 ground type from NGK (or anyone else except Bosch). Checked the web site for an Accord NGK only lists 6 different single ground varieties. The theory presented here is all well and good. But the proof is in the actual performance in the real world. Multi ground is better in my experience.
      I was suffering from hesitation and poor 1-2 shifting (delayed shifting up and down) for years. I thought my tranny was failing. After I put in the multis the hesitation was gone and shift is smooth. I believe poor engine performance causes poor shifting as the computer has trouble determining correct shift points.
      This is not the first time I have tried multis. I used them back in the 70s in my Chrysler 300 and the difference was night and day.

    Multiple ground electrode spark plugs are pre-gapped from the factory and require no adjustment. Furthermore, there is not an accurate tool or method to check/adjust the gap on multiple ground electrode spark plugs.

      I bought double electrode spark plugs that described a 0.044 in gap. But when I measured them, the gaps are 0.025 or 0.023 and different on each side/electrode. What does this mean? Is the gap a total of the sum of each electrodes gap? Or is it suppose to be 0.044 on each side?

    I wish these 2 ground electrode plugs were available in non-resistor. The only reason resistor plugs came about was to counteract EMI when cars still used distributors and had long plug wires to carry the HV which acted as antennas. Now that almost every car uses COP technology, the source of EMI (distributor and wires) has been eliminated so there's no reason to run resistor plugs anymore which do nothing but waste spark energy thereby reducing performance and fuel efficiency.

    This design was used in aircraft engines 70 years ago for reliability & is still used now. The main benefit was if one earth wire gap was fouled with oil then the next path of least resistance would spark ensuring continued cylinder firing. In automotive practice, it's just a gimmick.

    Actually multi-electrode spark plugs are far older than the 1970's and invented by Lodge Spark Plugs during the 1950's.
    I have a boxed 1950's Lodge HH14 three electrode Sintox spark plug still in its wax paper instruction wrapping in my spark plug collection.
    They were intended for use in 2 stroke motors and offered anti-fouling, which was a problem on 1950's 2 stroke motors running Castrol R and SAE 30 oil (specialist 2 stroke oil didn't appear until the late 1960's).
    Having run Lodge Sintox plugs in 1970's and 1980's 2 stroke motorcycles the first noticeable improvement is the very real hike in low down engine torque and fuel economy as a result. This may be more down to the use of Sintox as the ceramic surrounding the soft iron anode as opposed to conventional Alumina Oxide ceramic as Sintox is slower to lose and gain heat than Alumina Oxide thus maintains a more constant temperature range during idle / cruising / hard acceleration engine conditions. However Sintox spark plugs take slightly longer to warm up to operating temperature from a cold start as a result.
    Having watched a Lodge tri-electrode spark plug operating on a twin cylinder motor I can attest to the fact that they do not spark on all electrodes at the same time but rotate the spark at random between electrodes.

      Hey Andy, thanks for commenting! That's cool! You have an extensive "old plug" collection? That makes sense, those old engines had to foul out all the time I bet! Mazda's rotary engine burned a lot of oil as well, that's why they went with this design.

      A friend swears by Brisk spark plugs (formerly a division of the Czech company PAL). They have factories in the US and South America.
      Having worked and tuned bike engines since 1980, I've learnt that engines will perform better on one brand of plugs than another, despite apparently being direct heat range equivalents. It depends on the engine so what gives a better performance on one manufacturer's engine type won't on another.
      The biggest problem currently is poor combustion caused by our EU / UK E5 unleaded petrol. Normal unleaded has a vapourisation point of 35 degrees C but adding 5% ethanol drops this to 18 degrees C. OK if an engine has a computer running the fuelling but a disaster for carbed engines especially those built originally to run higher energy content leaded petrol, as these engines are already nerfed in performance running on straight unleaded.
      The engines that suffer the most are 2 strokes (though some 4 strokes can also suffer in the same way) as once the cylinder has warmed up the fresh fuel air charge vapourises as soon as it enters the cylinder instead of when compressed and heated by the ceramic surrounding the spark plug. This results in a poor combustion burn as the spark plug is circumvented in its vapourisation role prior to providing the ignition spark.
      Poor combustion symptoms are excess soot, carboned plugs, excessive smoking, over heating engine and total loss of low down & midrange torque once the engine reaches operating temperature. Also prone to seizures on longer journeys. Jetting down will cause a holed piston so not a solution either. Reducing 2 stroke oil ratio will shorten engine bearing and piston ring life plus risk seizures during engine braking.
      The problem can make a mechanic believe that he or she is dealing with a weak ignition problem, which is how I was dealing with it. However after replacing complete ignition system component of several bikes, it became apparent it wasn't.
      By chance I found the Castrol engineers report on the problems and damage ethanol contaminate petrol causes to old school engines and the problem was solved.
      Castrol recommends mixing anywhere between 30:1 to 50:1 kerosene or diesel into the petrol. Adding kerosene or diesel to ethanol contaminated petrol raises the vapourisation point.
      I've experimented with 7 different 2 stroke bikes (50cc, 125cc, 150cc, 175cc 250cc 305cc and 350cc) and found adding 33:1 to 40:1 diesel cures the problem.
      Pretty much the problem lies with the politicians for allowing ethanol contamination of fuel in the first place. It's down to spark plug manufacturers, mechanics and vehicle owners to first figure out the various problems caused and then devise ways to circumvent them.

      @@CZ350tuner do you indexed the different brands spark plugs uniformly when compare which one the engine liked the most ? Some time, because of random orientation of the ground electrodes even the same brand identical spark plugs could give you differences in engine performance . How important is it could judge by the fact that the auto manufacturers started to index the spark plugs straight from the factory and even sell uniformly treaded replacement spark plugs which guarantee you proper indexing if tighten to the recommended torque without the need to select the proper one from few randomly chosen spark plugs .

    My concern is why multiple ground electrode plug has the open designs. Which looks practically as the spark is open and can ignite better than single electrode which curves and spark under . Because the plug is facing the intake and exhaust valve which with the multi electrode the spark is on the top which will increase ignition . Why they dont make single electrode side like multiple electrode? Now the design plays more role than the number of electrode

    There are a lot of companies that make it seem like having more than one ground allows you to ignite the mixtures better and faster, when in reality you are significantly hurting your combustion efficiency at a cost of being able to run a plug longer.... good stuff.

      Then why does toyota go through the trouble of putting those stickers on every damn motor they put out saying to only use twin ground electrodes? If they were in a business deal with the manufactures who made the twin grounders why would they say to only use the if it was just because they last longer.? Wouldnt they be more apt to rep different ones by the manufacturer because they would get changed sooner? And auto manufacturers never add things or make things where theyll last a lifetime because of supply and demand greed. I was always under the belief that the dual ground was there to act as more of a backup where a motor might be running wrong and fouling one of the grounds with buildup so the other ground will still fire which will burn off some of the buildup that was on the other electrode.. but could be wrong. Wonder what would happen if one had a bigger gap than the other grnd side.. you think the longer one would just buildup crap on it being unused or you think the shorter one would just fail sooner then suddenly the larger gap would take over and run hotter?

    • @aemravan
      @aemravan Před 2 lety

      @@Z-Ack I have owned toyota's just about all my life. I have no idea what stickers you're talking about having to use dual ground plugs. Nor have I ever purchased anything direct from toyota that was a dual/triple/quad ground plug.. everything has been a standard, single ground plug.
      If you have a dual ground with different gaps, you will continuously arc to the path of least resistance... it's basic physics..
      If you're at a point with a plug where you have a failing ground, like as in it burned off.. just replace the plugs. They aren't meant to last a lifetime of a motor.

    Just bought 6 ngk 4 ground spark plugs and I'm not sure if those come pre gapped or not. AutoZone says they are not but orileys says they are. if I need to gap my plugs what tool will I need to use to gap them without damaging the plugs?

    • @rallwest
      @rallwest Před 6 lety

      jonathan hernandez yes they come pre-gapped. But you can mess the gaps up by bumping, hitting or dropping them.

    Well, my Camry originally came with twin electrode NGKs, so that's what I just bought at a cost of $40.. Now NGK is saying poo poo to multi electrodes. Should I send them back and buy Iridium single electrodes?

    • @ngksparkplugsusa
      @ngksparkplugsusa  Před 5 lety

      Hey Dbf Crell, if your car came with twin electrode plugs from the factory then that's what the car was designed to run and I would suggest putting those back in. Generally you wouldn't want to use a multi ground plug in an application that wasn't engineered for it. I'd be happy to grab you a part number for you car if you can hook me up with the year and engine size.

      @@ngksparkplugsusa I just ordered the correct NGK double electrodes and they arrived, but I'm waiting on my Granatelli 0 Ohm ignition wires to arrive so they all can go in together. Now here's the weirder part... I'm also thinking about ordering some Brisk EVO plugs. Please tell me why I don't need to do this. If you have a great argument, I can be talked out of it and I'll just install the NGKs. The cost is not an issue, but I am very curious to see if a hotter, larger erratic spark without a protruding electrode will lead to better anything. What do you think?

    • @ngksparkplugsusa
      @ngksparkplugsusa  Před 5 lety +1

      May I ask...why 0 ohm wires? Not sure on the year of this Camry....but if it has electronics on it you will be messing with those. Resistance is in the wires to cut down on electrical interference. As for why NGK I have a super simple answer...What plug came in it from the factory? How many hours were spent developing the spark plug for that engine in original R&D? How many cars come with that other brands plug OE? There is a reason NGK is in so many cars from the factory. :)

      @@ngksparkplugsusa Hi Mike, It's a 99 Camry XLE 2.2L utterly stock with the original wires. 83k on the clock. The 0 ohms are guaranteed not to interfere... but we'll see! They'll go right back if they do. On the Brisks, I would think cost would be a reasonable answer for the Brisks not to be in most cars from the factory, plus they weren't available yet when they designed my 4th gen engine. I realize they would be sick-overkill for a little 4 banger like mine, but one reason I had been thinking of doing this (which I just decided not to) is because I just sold my 98 Corolla 1.8L which got sick gas mileage (35mpg) and the Camry, which runs like new, only gets 26mpg. I drive 500 miles/wk. It's sorta killing me, and I know my Camry needs plugs and wires, so since these expensive wires and plugs promise a mileage increase, I was going to taking the Flame Kernel Challenge. Guess I'll just do the wires and send them back to Granatelli if they suck. Thanks for your words of wisdom.

    I don’t like 4 grounds it blocks the electric flow so then less power for massive explosions inside the compress gas and air mixture I texted this 4 grounds but only choose one ground or the most 2 for v8 or v12 v6 only needs single ground and it’s smooth and perfect in low rpm or racing,too much grounds and not gonna do anytime because the gas air mixture are fix every time all the time so no changes needed.On the other hand Honda engines are different 4 cylinder

    My outboard engine, a Suzuki 4hp from 1995, only accept a Bosch super 4, spark plug.
    From the beginning the original sparkplug, was a single-ground sparkplug.
    I try to run it with a singe-ground spark plug, but the engine only die when i accelerate it.
    And when i replace the super 4, it goes like hell.
    i have not test NGK´s multiground sparkplug because it doesen´t exist on the Swedish market.
