What's your favourite move buff? Leave a comment! Thanks so much for 2k I can't believe the support.
Best Move of Each Type is in the works but it might be the Christmas special for you all.
Don't mind the jump scare at 2:28 I forgot to turn the audio down on the sound effect XD
First thing that comes to mind is Leech life no doubt
Knock off went from a bad move to an insane move.
For me, it'd be the buffs Gen 9 gave to Mist Ball and Luster Purge, boosting their base power from 70 to 95.
Now Latias and Latios have a reason to actually run their signature moves.
Hypothetical question, as stronger moves get added to the game, would you consider Metronome to be buffed 🤔
Drain Punch also got a PP buff in Gen 5, going from 5-8 PP to 10-16 PP
Idea for a vid: Overshadowed moves and abilities.
Highlighting moves and abilities that over time have been powercrept or forgotten about as new moves and abilities and items are introduced.
For example, Clear Body has been overshadowed by Clear Amulet, Liquidation overshadowed Waterfall, and Return overshadowed Body Slam
That's a really interesting idea. There definitely are a bunch of moves that aren't seen anymore because new ones dropped. Abilities and items would be fun to research into. Thanks for the comment!
Clear body is a good ability tho, it's a viable choice for dragapult against webs for example whereas clear amulet takes up an incredibly important items slot
Close Combat overshadowed High Jump Kick and Superpower
@@jimtsap04 My point moreso is that the value of Clear Body as an ability is less valuable since it can effectively be replicated on any Pokémon with Clear Amulet.
The logic follows as "oh, this new Pokémon has Clear Body, but I could've just used Amulet instead". Both effects are strong, and have different synergies, however Clear Body is less valuable by proxy
@@goGothitaLOL I tend to disagree. High Jump Kick has higher base power at 130, meaning it has some breakpoints for OHKOs that 120 doesn't reach, even at the risk of missing, it's still extremely strong.
Superpower is also better for Contrary Pokémon than Close Combat due to the constant attack raises (Think of Enamorous with it). All three are situationally good and have niches
A few more cool buffs:
- Moves like Tri Attack, Rock Slide, and Waterfall didn't gain secondary effects until Gen 2
- Substitute got massively buffed in Pokemon Stadium onward. In RBY, it didn't protect you from things like Thunder Wave. Now that's obviously not the case
- Before either Gen 4 or Gen 5, all priority attacks were +1 priority only. Now in the modern day, attacks like Extreme Speed and Fake Out go before other priority moves like Quick Attack and Shadow Sneak
- Leaf Blade got a nice BP buff from 70 to 90 in Gen 4
- Gunk Shot used to be a clone of Focus Blast, until they buffed its accuracy from 70 to 80 in either Gen 5 or Gen 6
- Rock Tomb in earlier gens was 50 BP, 80% accurate, but come Gen 6, they added 10 to both values
- Mystical Fire's BP in Gen 6 was only 65. Gen 7 onward sees it at 75, very appreciated by everything that gained the move in Sword and Shield
- One of the biggest buffs in recent memory, Latios and Latias had their signature Luster Purge and Mist Ball buffed from 70 to a whopping 95 BP in Gen 9, stronger than Psychic itself. Latios especially appreciates its Psychic STAB getting a bit stronger
- Roar and Whirlwind used to do absolutely nothing in Trainer Battles. Come Gen 2, both moves gain the ability to phase out the Pokemon of opposing trainers
- Spikes got a massive buff in Gen 3, being the first time you could stack 3 layers instead of 1
- Power Gem used to be a pitiful 70 BP. 80 BP is much more reasonable
So many great buffs. I wanted to include a lot of these but didn’t want to drag the video too long
I wanna give props to Rapid Spin. It went from essentially a utility-only move to a Normal-Type version of Flame Charge.
I wanna point out that Multihit moves also really benefitted pokemon with the technician ability, turning them into at least 75 base power moves that could break Subs and ignore focus Sash or endure
Yeah, I thi they used to stop after a sub broke which is kind of lame. With loaded dice these moves are really solid now
@@MattBudYT I think that if it comes back in Azure Disc, Mincinno is gonna be using Technician instead of Skill Link, which is absolutely wild.
Endure lives thru multi hit attacks tho
Hex is SUPER popular in VGC, so I wouldn't call it niche. Outrage, too, but way less popular. Still, a great move all the same! Like I said, you deserve way more views and subs!
Appreciate it. Always thought Hex was super cool. Great tool for status spam teams.
@@MattBudYT Toxic Chain + Hex Flutter Mane is the funniest shit imaginable
SUPER popular? really? most flutter I see are shadow ball
@@GravityIsFalling Well, super popular is an overstatement, but still! Very common.

According to pikalytics is very uncommon
A ton of moves got buffed going from gen 2 to gen 3 with the introduction of double battles by making them hit both opponents. For example, Icy Wind - introduced in gen 2 - went from nearly worthless to one of the best supporting moves in doubles. Similarly, some moves got buffed in gen 5 by being given long range in triple battles, but that wasn't as big of a deal, especially since no one played triple battles
If I was given the opportunity to bring back moves that were deleted in gen 8, this is how I would buff/change them
-multi-strike moves (Barrage, Bone Club, etc) get a power increase and if the move’s accuracy is lower than 90% then set it to 90% accuracy
-buff power of some moves (Dizzy Punch = 80, Magnet Bomb = 70, Needle Arm = 80)
-buff accuracy of some moves (Egg Bomb = 95, Mirror Shot = 95, Mud Bomb = 95, Rolling Kick = 100)
-remove secondary effect (Flame Burst = remove splash damage, Ominous Wind = remove stat buff chance, Silver Wind = remove stat buff chance)
-Rock Climb, increase accuracy to 95 and change typing to rock type
As for the other moves, some are removed due to having unique battle mechanics (I.E. Magnitude), the move is a less powerful version or an exact copies of other still existing moves (I.E. Bubble), or the move is fine but GameFreak chose to remove it anyway (I.E. Pursuit)
BANGER ALERT 🚨
This man is an OG Bud🔥🔥🔥
Another great vid man! Always seem to learn something new from your videos keep it up!
Keep making these videos bro. You are a good poketuber and growing rapidly
Biggest Pokémon buffs:
-Stat buffs (Masquerain 20+ Sp. Atk and Spe each, Swellow 25+ Sp. Atk, Clefable and Pelipper 10+ Sp. Atk to go along with their other buffs, Beartic 20+ Atk to go along with Slush Rush)
-Move additions (too many to list so just go over the most important ones, Shell Smash Blastoise/Drednaw/Torterra, Roost Empoleon, Knock Off+Scald Goodra, Triple Axel Weavile, Hurricane Zapdos, Poltergiest on physical ghost mons, Aqua Jet Crawdaunt, Aqua Jet&Belly Drum Azumarill via some mechanic changes, Wave Crash Floatzel, Grassy Glide Rillaboom, Close Combat+Clangorous Soul(blaze)+Aura Sphere Kommo-o, Dual Wingbeat Dragonite when it has it, Weather Ball+Earth Power Venusaur, Earth Power Abomasnow, Meteor Mash Lucario, Mystical Fire+Aura Sphere Gardevoir)
-Certain Gen 5/Dreamworld HAs (Sheer Force Nidos and Feraligatr, Speed Boost Blaziken and Sharpedo, Technician Breloom, Poison Heal Gliscor, Adaptability Crawdaunt, Unaware Quagsire, Multiscale Dragonite, Moxie Gyarados and Salamence, Rough Skin Garchomp, Regenerator Slowtwins and Tangrowth, Magic Guard Alakazam, Thick Fat Mamoswine)
-Certain new or replaced abilities (Magic Guard+HA Unaware Clefable, Technician Scizor accompanied with STAB Bullet Punch, Speed Boost Scolipede, Pelipper/Torkoal/Gigalith/Vanilluxe, Sharpness Gallade, Competitive Empoleon, Wind Rider Shiftry)
-Ability buffs (Sand Stream technically, Snow Warning also technically, Storm Drain and Lightning Rod, Weak Armor), but that last one can be for another video if you want
Great one! I really like the giga drain one, as it was kinda sad having to use a 60 bp move even in a playthrough (the damage was so pitiful the pp drained really fast). now its quite useful
First video that i've seem from your channel and I enjoyed a lot! Congratz, looking foward to the next ones
Appreciate the support!
Nice editing 👍🏻
I like that Water Shuriken got changed from a Physical move to a Special one. Makes a lot more since for Greninja and Accelgor.
I liked fly on mega aerodactyl. With tough claws and its huge attack not too many things can actually comfortably switch into it
Glad rapid spin got the recognition, thought it was going to be forgotten. Played gen 7 randos and was wondering wheres my speed boost?
cool video mans
Multi-hit moves got indirectly buffed in Gen 9 with the introduction of the Loaded Dice held item, which guarantees that the move will hit at least 4 times. (Making Technician Cinccinno a somewhat viable option over Skill Link)
great vid
Fake out and espeed got more priority, that’s a good one
knock off and defog are definitely the top ones to me
Doom desire is my favorite, going from 90 power to 140 power, makes me really happy as jirachi is my favorite pokémon
Fell stinger, its a niche buff but back then when mega beedrill was a thing I used it a lot
I thought about adding this originally but Mega Beedrill was the only mon that I remember ever seeing it on and it was not the most common option since it was more of a hit and run mon
@@MattBudYT true
I didn’t know about some of these
I remember learning the hard way about the leech life buff when a wild buzzwole attacked me with it one shotted my pokemon & proceeded to terrorize me
They need a poison type pivot move that has a chance to poison so salazzle can abuse it
There are a lot of buffs that i think should be done since much time, or better moves to introduce, many gens and still nothing.
The funny thing about Jump Kick & High Jump Kick is that in gen 1, they had a crash damage of 1 HP. What was even the point of it? Were they serious?
The funny thing is that it would still be considered a recoil move and reckless boosted. I think 50% damage is a little much for the crash damage maybe 1/3 or 1/4 would be fair.
My guess: the jump is trying to recoil based on the damage it would have inflicted but as the attack missed, it rounds 0 up to 1 instead.
IIRC Mega Drain was buffed a lot in Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee to 75 base power cuz Giga Drain wasn’t in the game. But what if they kept that Mega Drain buff and made Giga Drain even stronger? Like 100 base power or something. That could be interesting
Also Charging moves like Sky Attack and Solar Beam were buffed to 200 base power in Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee and I find that funny lel
Mega Drain was 60 BP iirc
Matcha Gotcha is I think the highest lifesteal move, and it makes Sinistcha incredibly difficult to deal with. A 100 power Giga Drain with 100 accuracy is completely busted and waaaay too much. I'd go with 80 BP at most, but it's a really good move as is and doesn't need the boost.
The charging moves are sorta limited by Mental Herb. If you make them too strong, then you have another Z-Move situation where your opponent just has an automatic KO button whenever they want
@@oireal7261Macha Gotcha is 90% Acc, and 80 BP (before STAB)
@@oireal7261 Matcha Gotcha is tied for the highest power of any draining move with Oblivion Wing, though Oblivion Wing outclasses it in most regards due to it draining 75% of the damage dealt (as opposed to the 50% of Matcha Gotcha) and having 100% accuracy, though Matcha Gotcha still competes thanks to its Scald-esque burn chance.
@@Hyperneosonic97 Did some research cause I was curious lol. In singles, Matcha Gotcha has 80 BP and Oblivion Wing has 80 BP. In doubles, spread moves are reduced by 25% in power. Matcha Gotcha goes to 60 BP and 120 if it hits both targets. Technically speaking, it is the highest damage spread move. However, Dream Eater is actually the strongest draining move at 100 BP, then Bitter Blade at 90 BP, then Oblivion Wing and Matcha Gotcha (singles) at 80 BP.
In terms of healing, since Oblivion Wing restores 75% of damage dealt, it would heal for 75 health if it dealt 100 damage for example. For arguments sake, lets say Matcha Gotcha hits both enemy targets and would deal 100 damage to one. That gets reduced to 75 damage (due to doubles modifier) and then 50% of that is healed twice resulting in 37x2=74 health. Healing always rounds down, but always is a minimum of 1, which is why the healing is 37 and not 37.5. In the most technical manner, Oblivion Wing is a better healing move than Matcha Gotcha in the best case scenario.
This was not worth the effort lol
maybe knock off is way to usefull, so it need a nerf to 40bp and double when remove a item
Idk about rapid spin I feel like the most BROKEN buff is deflee teleport and Knock Off
Wait, did defog only clear hazards from the opponent?
Unfortunately yes. The only real benefit was removing screens from the opponent’s side.
wait wouldn't you want it only to clear the opponents side so you keep your hazards or am I understanding this wrong
@@spottedwoot2085 Hazards affect the side they're on.
Knock Off moves buff actually is kinda... hard for me.
Like it was a neat support option, now it's just unbearable
Agreed. I think 50bp would have been a good medium
Nice video. I'm making this comment for the algorithm boost
Low Kick also got a buff in gen 2 by being changed to Fighting type. It was completely useless in gen 1, even early game
Edit: Disregard me, I was thinking of Karate Chop
You might be confusing low kick with karate chop? Cuz I'm pretty sure low kick was a fighting type move in Gen 1
@@Pigggles Yup. Low Kick is actually fairly good by Gen 1 Fighting-type standards, since it's the most accurate thing Machamp and Primeape have for STAB, and the flinch chance comes in surprisingly handy.
low kick is great in ubers
@@Pigggles You're right, I am
Judgement is actually only 100 base power so multi attack is significantly stronger.
Yes with Normal Arceus you are correct it only gets 100 power. I was more thinking of any other Arceus type that holds the plate since the plate changes Judgement to the corresponding type and boosts its power to 120.
Rock Smash also got better
The ONLY good rock move at 100% accuracy is Power Gem. The physical attackers are crying rn😂
Ivy Cudgel is currently the highest BP, physical, 100% accurate rock move (excluding D/Z Moves). It's a shame it's exclusive but gives Cornerstone a niche
music too loud, makes it sound like you're shouting to speak over it in a club or something. Lower the music volume :)
Video idea: 20 minute rant on why GameFreak can't make a 100% accurate rock move that isn't garbage.
Would probably need two 20 min vids
U forgot teleport...
It’s in the video…

You missed “Dark Void”.
What’s the buff? The accuracy lowering to 50% or Smeargle not being to use it anymore?
