    I bought a topdon Phoenix lite2 and got the topology map upgrade and the oscilloscope. Does everything you could really ask it for in the light duty world.

    for $500 a year.. wouldn't it just be easier to buy another T8? $720 with 20% coupon, seems like a better deal than renewing the subscription! Someone will buy an out of date T8 for a few hundred dollars , no doubt.

      Still more than updating it at $720 so wouldn’t make sense to do that. But maybe since you get 2 yrs of free updates? I don’t know I guess it depends on how much you can sell the old one for outdated. People are weird about scan tools that aren’t updated. Ask me how I know 😂

    I agree with your assessment. I rather get a top don or a launch since they are all based with the same software. The T8 looks like the mid tiers scanners that Launch & Top Don, but the ICON is more expensive.

      Yea that’s my thoughts as well. I’m going to continue testing it out but so far nothing wows me. Especially not for $900. Many other platforms have the same level scan tools for less money. They are just comparing it to snap on. A lot of people still don’t know topdon launch or autel exist which is surprising to me.

    Thanks for a really concise vid. I'm just a DIY-er supporting 5 family cars (plus my mom's on occasion) and was hoping for something like this for a more integrated experience any my current Innova 5160rs. I got an Autel MX900, but I need to get on its level or find something simpler. The Innova 7111 looks like it might be an option...

    lets say I want this to be able to do repairs my 2002 car. So would have limited use, but would I need updates? or once all my old cars data were in there would that be all I need, or is the connection needed to make this unit usable? or does it operate just on its own.... it looks like a really sweet unit for a novice home mechanic. Or maybe its far above what I would ever need. Thank you.

      Your scan tool doesn’t save the data from the vehicle. It’s reading the vehicles modules themselves. From the sounds of it I’m guessing the Topscan from topdon will likely be a better fit for your needs

    When connecting with a vehicle do you need to input work order number? On my autel I always have to do that.

      No and you can likely go into the settings on your autel and turn that off mine don’t do that

    How are you liking the ICON so far. I’m in need of a scanner upgrade. Looking at an Autel , Topdon etc. just not sure what’s the best bang for the buck and sometimes skeptical on HF stuff.

      Skip the icon it’s not worth buying. Buy a topdon or autel you will be much happier

    I want to buy a 2013 Mercedes E 550. A lot of them have low mileage for the age in NC. NC is in the top 10 for clocking. Does anyone know if the T8, or any

      Well a lot will but you have to know how to interpret the data and how to diagnose the circuit. The most cost effective is going to be either the otofix d1 lite or the topscan

      Check with icon. But buying a $900 scan tool for one vehicle is a waste of money. You will save $0 and cost yourself $900

    I purchased the icon T8 and am having regrets. No topology, no real fix suggestions, and glitchy. I’m hoping icon will do some updates in the future that will make this scan tool worth the investment. Right now it’s just not worth the money.

      Yea so a few things I’ve found out. The only items it has that most the major competitors have is it can do “some” keys, it has adas capabilities and it has fca access. Aside from that plenty of 300-500 scan tools do everything else it does.

      @@ratrodnation hard to say. I think they are banking on the average Joe off the street that doesn’t know about topdon, autel or launch and just see the “compared to snap on” tab and buy them. But I’m being pessimistic. I’m mostly just made that they are playing the the identifix deal when it’s worthless. But making you think you get something extra

    I agree Its a 450 dollar scanner not a 900.00 one. Can get a launch that does exact stuff for 450-550. 250-400 if ya dont mind wired.

      Yea so a little more information looks like majority of the other scan tools don’t do adas, keys, or fca gateway but have all the other options.

      @@Enrightauto good point. You can buy a launch x431 pro dyno for 700 and it does all and more. Can even hook a scope box up to it. Just think the icon is a touch overpriced. And if support is needed who do you call? Icon or you call launch. What have they setup for that. I don’t know anything about support they have setup for the icon scanner.

      @@JohnStax98 Launch CRP129E is a solid 250.00 scanner with functions. A really low cost wired scanner that does a lot is The Launch CRP919E at about 465.00. Amazon Prices. Also Autel MX808 at about 420.00.

    Do I have to already have 1 key to program new keys? Also, can I program radios that have to be programmed to the vin due to security?

      Depends on the vehicle

      Assuming it is like all of the other Launch-based tools of this caliber you’ll be able to program most transponder keys (some will require a pin code that this tool probably can’t pull from the vehicle). There will be a few remotes that it can program and MAYBE some “smart” keys, but very few if any.
      For key programming, there are far better options for a lot less money. If all you want to do is program keys, you can get something like an Xhorse tool for about the same price as the Icon, but the Xhorse will do ALMOST every key on the market.
      This tool is made to sell to suckers that don’t do their research.

      @@extrasteez5727 it has misfire data the tool just isn’t worth $900 imo lots of patches and updates need to be done to it. 99% of people will under utilize it anyways

    One thing im thinking of, can it do live fine tuning on distributor timing for a vortec 350 like snap on? To get the timing to 0 -2 degree

      I would save up my money and spend 1800ish and get the phoenix elite if you are wrenching for a living. If you are diy I would buy the otofix d1 lite or the topdon topscan

      Scan tools don’t program modules. Autels that are programming have a j box

      @@spartan1876 that’s not programming and no it won’t program everything. I think you are confused as to what programming is vs reading information and then writing the information. There are only a few manufacturers like Honda/Toyota that will allow you to do this. Most need programmed through a j box with oe access

      @@spartan1876 yea that’s not programming but I understand what you mean. Yes these will do some vehicles but all scan tools lack full in this area. Also a lot of those modules especially on older vehicles don’t require programming. Usually it’s a calibration or reading the vin and writing it in the new one. Then there is eeprom which is a whole other world

    But 500 a year is outrageous for a subscription. I have searched all over for a definitive cost and i only hear this on a few videos. Do you have any link to this information to be 500 yearly? That's a deal breaker for the DIY'r

      99.9% of all scan tools have subscriptions. $500 a year is cheap. This tool is not geared towards the diy

    For 500 a year after subscription is insanre since for that price i pay for my launch tech usa torque link with jbox and has more featurse than that icon would ever do, yes mine is more expensive but i got 2 free gifts with mine

      Yea as I gain more information it does help Justify the cost some as the T8 does can-fd, key programming on some models, adas calibrations and bidirectional controls as well as sga/fca auto auth

    I'd disagree with people saying this should be half the money - there aren't wireless options at this level in that price range. I do think $900 seems high though.

      Yea as I’ve got more information on it. It has can-fd, adas calibration, “some” key programming usually on the easier vehicles and bidirectional controls those items do help the value more than I originally had judged myself.
      But that all being said thr mass majority of people asking me about this tool have 0 clue what can-fd is or would ever need adas calibration because they don’t have the targets which cost thousands to buy. So for a diy’er it’s pointless there are better less expensive options without those features that the everyday Joe is going to use.
