Goliath is my favorite installment in the comics. Gaiman’s take on the workings of the simulation offer a really interesting twist.

My mind was blown after the first read. However, it wasn't until I read it again for this video that I realized being reinserted wirelessly from space implies that Cryptos could have be reconnected if the machines really wanted to share the "process".

I think the studio underestimated their audience. I don't think that the idea of the brain being used as a CPU would have been over the heads of the sort of people who would watch a show like The Matrix in the first place. At that point, we already have had plenty of shows and movies such as several different forms of Star Trek, we had Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Quantum Leap, a myriad of time travel shows and movies, and so much more. Now if they were trying to do something like The Matrix prior to 1980, I'd have agreed with the studios. But the 80s and 90s were decades of fast real life technological advancement. They already had 2 decades worth of time to get used to quickly developing technologies and increasingly sophisticated films. At least things can be retconed into "the whole battery thing was just another lie that was part of the system of control" narrative.

  • @En_theo
    @En_theo Před 3 lety +9

If I remember well, the original idea that humans were not batteries but rather used as a living processor units, came from the original script of the Matrix. Not sure if it's still around but I do remember we discussed this on a forum (it was matrixexplained.com I think).
Nice video btw, too many people underestimate the importance of the novel Goliath, it gave away so many secrets.

      Thanks for watching and commenting.
The issue with whenever someone claims that there is a reference to the "original script", my question is: who or what is the source?
There is a popular 1996 version of the script online that seems legit, however, the site does not specify the source of how they obtained the script so there is no real way to know if it is accurate. That version of the script also directly says "batteries" and even has the "coppertop" line in it. But makes no mention of computer processing power.
The Art of the Matrix Book makes references to storyboard art that was changed by the final production and also has no mention of the processing power concept.
Saying it was in the original version of the script, without seeing the original version of the script is hearsay. At least with Goliath, we can actually read this idea as it was written in the comic.
As far as the internet is concerned, John Wick 4 & The Matrix 4 were supposed to share a release date, which was *never* true, just a hyped up rumor. The yellow pilled approach is to trace everything back to the original source.

I hear you, I just say how I remember it (that was 20 years ago, I guess I'll be excused lol).
You're doing a good investigation job because so far, I have always seen the "processor theory " being kinda "confirmed" but I never checked the sources as far as you seem to have done.
Btw, energy and information are equivalent in physics. Idk if you're familiar with the entropy theory (I mean, deeply familiar), but having a machine that produces more energy than it consumes is the same as having a machine that can produce more calculation for a certain amount of energy cost.
Remember that Morpheus says that machines use a "new form of fusion". The fact that they need alive and thinking proves that they don't use us only for pure heat/electrical energy. Or else they would connect cows to a huge garden simulation lol

I remember reading this one years ago. I think its up there with the best of Neil Gaiman's works and is probably my favourite/tied with Good Omens. I do wonder after watching that video, what he could have come up with, had he decided to co-write with the Wachoski's a further Matrix trilogy.

to me his idea is completally nonsense, aliens doesnt fit in matrix lore, nothing had foreshadowed that, those aliens are so superficial presented in the story, their presence is so meaningless, so empty in front of all mithologyies of matrix stories, gaiman had completally ran away from the matrix theme.

Thanks for the link. I love this story! It’s my favorite Matrix comic story. Very dense.
In Matrix Online, there was an interpretation of aliens written in to the environment of the game. The “gang”, the Ethereals, were martian-themed programs written to remember the Machines’ enemy. They experimented on humans. Perhaps the Machines benefitted from their research...

I dunno, I appreciate the creativity, but it feels a bit of a cop-out to have humans and machines cooperate to defeat a common foe, even if the dominance of the machines is not disrupted in the process. Not having an external enemy complicates the narrative in that machines and humans have to find a way to get along, as, regardless of power dynamics, they rely on one-another

I enjoyed the fact they used the different powerplant idea, I think it was a different program but by the end the London plant matches the machine city time as the reboot. But when i first read this I was thinking this was a machine manipulating a human to fight off redpills that attacked a powerplant, cause the sky is scorched and machines can't fly up, so they tricked a podborn he was fighting aliens
