There's always the chance he shows up in some other future movie after secret wars. For now Robert Downey Jr is the main version of the character. Till at least the end of Secret Wars.

At this point you can’t have one without the other. And tbh there was a lot of burnout (at least from my end) with rehashing old characters as new actors and characters. The stakes felt extremely low even though they were working up to Kang, I didn’t have a connection to or care about any of the characters from the multiverse saga save Spider-Man and Deadpool.
I blame the actors they keep either dying or getting in legal trouble messing up the stories they have lined up, as marvel could just recast but they never recast they rewrite

Secret invasion should have been a phase in itself leading up to two movies.
Yeah they could tell so many stories centered around different main characters but in two movies it's gonna feel too jam-packed as there isn't much build up for the characters that are gonna take the lead in these movies
People didn't see the bigger picture with Kang and the Multiverse Saga. Those Disney Marvel shows were leading up to something that people with a short attention span couldn't handle.

I actually think having Doom as the big baddie is better than Kang. Dr. Doom is a terrifying villain, especially if we're talking God Emperor Doom level power.
And I think that he'll get introduced in the Fantastic Four movie - maybe as a stinger/credit scene, but I just don't think you can have a Fantastic Four movie right before Doomsday without introducing him there, since his origin story is so tied to the Fantastic Four.

Kangs intentions are not same to take over the world. I guess if they introduce Kang Dynasty should be dangerous. It will interesting if they start war with Wakanda after all Wakanda having Vibranium also they are race is same. But also eternals comes and the war started by galactus.

In the comics, marvel has kept dooms true face a huge mystery. Every time doom unmasked outside of the original secret wars, we only ever see peoples reaction to the horrifying scars of his face, but we never actually see it. It is extremely rare to see doom face. I think in this regard, it will be quite a challenge for an actor kind of like in the Mandalorian show. Robert Downey Jr. is an excellent actor, and if anybody could pull off a character that you never see the face behind the armored mask, it would be him.

It's one of the strongest arguements for casting unknowns-coming in fresh, they're ideally positioned to lead solely with the power of their acting skills and inhabit their role in a way that makes that portrayal uniquely their own.
The challenge here is for Downey Jr. to disappear as Tony Stark / Iron Man and emerge solely as Victor von Doom, whose mask is literally seared into the terribbly scarred flesh of his very face. Doom's refusal to pursue any procedure for healing his facial wounds as a matter of principle is a singular hallmark of his identity. Unlike Stark, who has a recognizably attactive face and life outside of his body armor, the nefarious Doctor considers himself to be totally "maskless"-his mask IS his true face.
This is the one singular aspect of Marvel's most heralded villain that I hope they honor without compromise. The consistent reaction Marvel's fan base longs for, myself included, is an effortless suspension throughout these upcoming films in ever thinking for one moment, "That's Robert Downey Jr. up there again". We continually want to be totally swept up, from the opening to closing credits, by Doom himself-we need Marvel and Downey Jr. to obliterate that looming kiss-of-death recognition factor and allow him instead to remain free and unfettered from the onerous workings of Hollywood's star making machinary.

Oh man, I just remembered that you reported before that Spiderman is going to be one of the leaders going forward in the MCU. I can imagine it now, Tom Holland Peter Parker having the chance to stop RDJ Dr Doom, but he knocks his mask off, and he's revealed to look exactly like Tony Stark. And he's too stunned to act, allowing Doom to finish Battleworld and win, Star Lord and Thanos style.

Does anyone else realize the irony of rdj being chosen as the safe option when he first got chosen as ironman marvel didn't want to cast him because of his past. He is absolutely a great acter and I'm sure a great person and definitely just goes to show you how far he's come. Definitely looking forward to this very much.
It makes sense. The casting for this role had to be absolutely perfect. *This is Stan Lee's personal favorite character out of all of his works!* Who better than the man who jump started this entire project?

Well, Disney/Marvel had two choices: Continue with a story line that was convoluted already by recasting the main villain because the actor turned out to be toxic, or switch to another story that is less convoluted, that fans are far more interested in, and has the most popular villain in Marvel comics ever. The choice was simple.

I get what you were saying about the avengers having a dilemma with fighting Doom because he’s going to have Tony’s face, but the thing is Dr Doom rarely ever takes his mask off. I think they’re gonna do a disservice to the character once again :(
They will meet him with his mask on first, then they'll play up the mask reveal for a huge moment in the theater when they see that it's him.
Mask on or mask off, RDJ can still give justice to a Dr. Doom role just like he did with Ironman.

You don't hire RDJ for that much money and stick him behind a mask all the time. They've changed the looks of several characters from the comic, I'm not all that shocked if we see this Doom's face more. Especially since some versions of Doom do have his face out more.

Evil Stark Doom will Doom in Doomsday. Then Ironman comes outta nowhere and smashes ESDoom. Helmet pulls back on Iron Man and reveals RDJ Good Tony Ironman is back.
Then Tony says, "That's not the real Doom, but he's coming and we need to prepare"
Evil Stark Doom sets up the return of a good RDJ Stark Variant as well as sets up VVDoom.
RDJs Doom is Evil Stark Doom, not VVDoom, if they say he's Victor they are lying.

I've seen other people saying it on other videos, but I'll say it again. This is either the dumbest and most creatively bankrupt decision they could possibly make or the most unexpectedly brilliant decision they could have possibly made. It's either or with no room for nuance in-between. It's undeniably desperate, but low key unbelievably ballsy, and I can't tell if their confidence in this decision means that they still think the audience will just swallow anything they give us or if it means they know they have an absolute gem of a story that'll sell even the hardest skeptics on the concept. The fact that I can't tell which one this is has me intrigued. I don't know if morbid curiosity is the emotion they want to be eliciting right now, but for better or worse, they certainly have my attention.

i feel like the mcu is like the simpsons. the golden age is the product of the exact group of people together. people came and left year after year until eventually most of the core group had left or was now a big name with other projects. i can't imagine there are too many people still there who worked on the successful ones 10+ yrs ago

I like the idea of him being Tony but raised by the Von Doom family. I think the anchor being concept will apply to the main MCU, and after Secret Wars, he'll come around to being Iron Man but play it as Superior Iron Man. It's a safe bet, they would get their Iron Man back and it shakes up the character so it's not so boring for RDJ
Imagine peter fights Doom Winter Soldier style and midfight the mask comes off and Peter is stun to see Mr. Stark. But Doom doesn't recognize this Peter and says "There is no Mr. Stark. There is only Doom."

Doctor Doom never takes his mask off. There's no reason we should ever see him with his mask off. There should be no moment where any character sees him with his mask off.

For clarification per John Campea, Russo brothers are in fact getting paid $40 million per movie. $80 million total. RDJ is getting “substantially more” than the Russo brothers pay. John said inside people told him RDJ will get $100 million per movie which includes points (back end revenue from how well the movie does) which gets him there. Either way, Marvel dropped that bag off!
Just a small correction. John stated that the brothers are getting 40 million a piece per movie. 160million total +RDJ 200mill. 360 altogether. Both Avengers should gross 1.8 billion. 3.6 billion. Those 3 get 1/10 of the gross. No points tho

This casting was not for "comic purisists". This is for mom, dad, auntie, uncle, grandma, sister, brother, friends who dont know anything and dont care about comic accuracy and its a great choice. My mom hasn't been to a marvel movie or kept up with it since endgame and when this popped up on her facebook she said she's ready to back and see these movies. Thats where their money comes from.

Off-topic, why do people think Loki is dead? He is not dead Loki becomes a living embodiment of Yggdrasil in season 2. He did this to protect his friends so that they could have a new bright future for their life to continue on. What I wish for the marvel to consider of making a movie or a short clip. Since Endgame there have acc only been 3 films & 2 series (w/ 2 seasons each) that dealt with the multiverse, plus 2 films that had a brief multiverse inclusion/ post credit scene.

RDJ will work fine as Dr. Doom. The current Marvel superheroes probably won't even *realize* that he looks like Tony as A) Doom never takes off his mask and B) If his mask does get removed, his face is supposed to be horribly scarred. I don't see there being a moment in either movie where a character goes "Tony?!" due to these two things.
There's no way that his voice isn't familiar, also there have been versions of Doom without the mask and ones that are not horribly scarred. In some versions he has only a small imperfection and he considers that hideous. You can borrow from any of those. Also it's not like Marvel hasn't done their own thing. You don't get RDJ if you don't want to show him off.

If you give it some thought, its just like how so many actors have played Marvel charcters previously just to come back and play a new MCU character. e.g. Chris Evans Johnny Storm then Captain America. Just backwards RDJ as Victor Von Doom really warms my cold dark heart.
It's a bit different than that. Chris Evan as Johnny Storm wasn't some signature role that people automatically associated him with because he had been playing the character over several movies for more than a decade. It was also a different studio and a different time. RDJ here is going to be very different. He's too intertwined as Tony, which makes sense considering they they cast him and made the reveal in such a public way. I'm pretty sure he's going to be a variant with a different name or however new way they're going to do it, but everyone will see him as evil Tony Stark.

I love RDJ as an actor. I think he did a great job as Tony Stark. He has done many other great movies.
I really don't like them casting him as Dr Doom. Either he's a variant (which apparently he won't be) or he's an original character (which apparently he will be). So, are they going to have the Avengers think it is Tony? Or will he have so much make up on that he will be unrecognizable? Either way, I don't see why they are bringing him back.

I understand replacing Kang with Doom. I just do not understand bringing back RDJ (which only makes the movies MORE expensive, which puts pressure on them to do really well). If they spend $300 million on production and let's say another $150 million on marketing, they will have to make almost $1 billion to break even.
We will see, but this does not get me hyped or excited.
I'm not saying he can't do it, but we need some proof of concept. He needs to commit to the mask.

The mask is definitely one of Dr.Doom's features but isn't it his unique personality, schemes, and cunning that makes him who he is?
