    For those looking to do this:
    heavy duty zip ties are your friend. When removing the shocks, have the zip ties in place and as you compress the shock you ratchet them down.

    You should use zip ties to hold the shocks in the compressed position before you unbolt the shock at the top and bottom. This way you won’t have to fight the shock trying to elongate when you are trying to remove it from the limited space that is available. Also, you can buy a Shock socket from NAPA Auto Parts for $2 that holds the front shock upper pin in place while you loosen the nut. The shock socket opening for the pin measures 6.1mm x 8mm, this is sometimes referred to as a Double D socket.

    I've put Bilsteins on my last three trucks. IMO, They're worth it, big difference. I tried to save a few bucks on my Colorado and put KYB, then Rancho. Hated both. Ended up with Bilsteins. My '10 Xterra Off-Road came with Bilsteins from the factory, the fronts are coil overs and were a real P.I.T.A. to replace due to having to use the spring compressors to take them apart! Great choice of shocks.

    If you had used a piece of thin wire, you could have compressed it and lashed it compressed. Gas shocks usually come with a strap to keep them compressed during installation. Good job doing it the hard way, but it did work.

    I absolutely loved those Goodyear F1 GSD3 tires. I've never had a tire grip in wet weather like it. Amazing tires. I have been unable to find them for my 2007 C6. Put on my 1st C5 and my second C5. It's a shame I can't find um on standard rims for the C6. Turns out Goodyear discontinued a few years ago

    Think how much easier it would've been if you would have compressed the shock,tied them zip ties.also the new ones can be compressed and zip tied before installing and then cutting the ties once in place.

    I'm not expert but I thought the job of a shock absorber was to resist movement not act as a spring? Perhaps the shock was adding some type of pre-load too... Oh, and BP Blaster is really good at helping those stuck/rusted bolts come loose - give a couple of squirts before you're ready to get started - like around breakfast and by the time you're ready to do the job there's a good chance it'll come free with not much swearing... Love the content keep up the great work!

    I just had this same Bilstein shocks installed on my C6 Corvette. You made a small mistake. The rear Bilstein shocks require a slight longer bolt (bottom side) in order for the nut to lock in place. The Bilstein’s rear shocks slightly thicker metal brackets on the bottom. Compare the stock Corvette ones to it and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Just concerned for your safety is all.

    Why didn't u put some grease and maybe a drop of oil on the bolt's moving part when exchanging the rear shock, or by the way on any even minimal movin' and possible rubbing parts ? I think it'll prevents moister, + keeps it slippery, and so extends lifecycle + reduces all kinds of possible noise.

    • @Litanic
      @Litanic Před 2 lety

      Be careful what you recommend. Adding grease/oil will also attract particles and increase the wear. If you want to lube it anyway, then make sure it's at least dirt defiant.

    Dude you tighten the top bolts to torque spec with the suspension loaded. Same deal with unbolting the old top hat bolts. The content is great but some of the things you do should be in time lapse without all the play by play. Btw some good zip ties will keep the old shock compressed for removal and safe for storage or shipping there’s a reason new shocks come fully loaded.
