For those looking to do this:
heavy duty zip ties are your friend. When removing the shocks, have the zip ties in place and as you compress the shock you ratchet them down.
“I watched a guy on CZcams do this I’m pretty much an expert” two seconds later “shhhiitttt Jesus” 😂😂 another great video!
What an Amazing video! Nice job in Detail. It was nice to see Jessica in the video. Helping out. Thanks for sharing!😊😊😊
You should use zip ties to hold the shocks in the compressed position before you unbolt the shock at the top and bottom. This way you won’t have to fight the shock trying to elongate when you are trying to remove it from the limited space that is available. Also, you can buy a Shock socket from NAPA Auto Parts for $2 that holds the front shock upper pin in place while you loosen the nut. The shock socket opening for the pin measures 6.1mm x 8mm, this is sometimes referred to as a Double D socket.
I admit the "Why are we replacing these?!?!" line made me spit out some coffee LOL
I see you are being a little more detailed about your repair instruction. Excellent! The comment about the Go Pro was a good one.
More Jessica.......... More Jessica.....
She won't go for it lol.
Get a life man. Go to the mall and you can stare at all the woman you want.
Got a C5 recently. Probably will replace shocks. Thanks for the video!
GOOD JOB AND WITH THE HEAT AND SEEING JESSICA OUT THERE WITH YOU HELPING YOU BESIDES YOUR BROTHER
A big thumbs up for Jessica for doing the shocks herself
I've put Bilsteins on my last three trucks. IMO, They're worth it, big difference. I tried to save a few bucks on my Colorado and put KYB, then Rancho. Hated both. Ended up with Bilsteins. My '10 Xterra Off-Road came with Bilsteins from the factory, the fronts are coil overs and were a real P.I.T.A. to replace due to having to use the spring compressors to take them apart! Great choice of shocks.
Very useful actually cuase i have to chage the strut on the FRS im rebuilding on my channel. Thanks OoBermAn!
I like parts r&r. Nicely done. I had bilstein shocks on a gmc p.u. by far the best. Keep up the good work.
Thanks David.
Nice hooters randy! Yellow and blue Bilsteins really look great!
Thanks! LOL
Good thing you did this the other day with it being 109° today
Amen to that!
If you had used a piece of thin wire, you could have compressed it and lashed it compressed. Gas shocks usually come with a strap to keep them compressed during installation. Good job doing it the hard way, but it did work.
Yeah !!!!!...We got to see "Ms. Auto Auction Rebuilds"....Team effort all the way !!!!!!!!!! and Tim , the loyal assistant.....!!!!!...Wish i had a "team" like this...hahaha!!!!
Thanks man. It's a great family team.
I really like your videos new subscriber
Thank you :)
Very nice ride!
Thanks man.
Good Job everyone Keep up the good work Jessica
Sounds like your in Enid Oklahoma with those jets going over 😂
Great video. I just bought me some for my c5. How were they compared to your oem?
Good job Mr.
tell her she is a beauty, she really is, and no need to shy from the camera. she is an added value for this channel, she bring rating. amazing the woman getting into this car hobby, kudos for both of you :-)
America sound in the background! Have to love the jets. Good video.
Any post installation driving impressions ? Was the swap worth the headache or not ??
I absolutely loved those Goodyear F1 GSD3 tires. I've never had a tire grip in wet weather like it. Amazing tires. I have been unable to find them for my 2007 C6. Put on my 1st C5 and my second C5. It's a shame I can't find um on standard rims for the C6. Turns out Goodyear discontinued a few years ago
Hey how u much u buy those shock? I need to do my vette 2.but my vette grand sport....r they r the same shock....lmk.
crazy how easy shocks are to replace on these newer vettes, my C5 takes maybe an hour on 4 ramps kinda sketchy though
Think how much easier it would've been if you would have compressed the shock, tied them zip ties.also the new ones can be compressed and zip tied before installing and then cutting the ties once in place.
I've spent the last hour trying to figure out if the notch on the rear shock upper plate is supposed to be towards the front or rear of the car. This helped. (Nice picture at 13m17s.) (And, yes, it appears to make a difference. )
Randy your a lucky guy. She’s pretty and she is helping work on the Vette.
I know it lol.
The elusive fiancé...lol. I'm a big fan of Bilstein shocks. Had good luck with them and I think they're worth the money.
“I edited you out of the video before I didn’t”
OMG....WHERE ARE THE JACKSTANDS?? VERY DANGEROUS...oh wait....lmfao 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I almost got mad lol.
Auto Auction Rebuilds I said that because I been watching alot of your vids lately and seen you had a bunch of people giving you crap about jack stands. You mentioned how much you liked it so I figured I would join in -lmao
Did you have to dump the fluid when you removed the coolant tank or was there enough room to just lay it to the side?
I'm not expert but I thought the job of a shock absorber was to resist movement not act as a spring? Perhaps the shock was adding some type of pre-load too... Oh, and BP Blaster is really good at helping those stuck/rusted bolts come loose - give a couple of squirts before you're ready to get started - like around breakfast and by the time you're ready to do the job there's a good chance it'll come free with not much swearing... Love the content keep up the great work!
Goodyear GSD3 tires, had them on my C5
Please tell Jessica she really shouldn't be so shy. She brings a loving energy with her presence and really gives the videos a great vibe. She's a cool chick. Reminds me of myself a lot. Tell her thanks for the small cameos. :-)
*So... how do you change the front, driver-side shock?*
U need to make urself a shock compressor. So easy to make. Lots of vids on CZcams 👍🇬🇧
Good job considering the heat vettes are no fun to work on imo
Thank you. If it was cooler it would have ben much easier.
It says maximum speed 80 after I did this. Does it fix itself ?
Ever thought of trying a hat mount go pro so you can use both hands while filming
I had one. I lost it lol. I suppose I need another one.
I just had this same Bilstein shocks installed on my C6 Corvette. You made a small mistake. The rear Bilstein shocks require a slight longer bolt (bottom side) in order for the nut to lock in place. The Bilstein’s rear shocks slightly thicker metal brackets on the bottom. Compare the stock Corvette ones to it and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Just concerned for your safety is all.
You're very funny guy get your brother to do the shocks
I had tires chewed up like that before, it's due to lack of tire rotation, at least that's what i been told.
Makes sense. You can not rotate these tires as they are staggered. :(
Don't be camera shy Jessica. Great job, the shocks on a Vette can be a real pain.
I like want you do with the cars keep up the good work and Jessica can help you
I started to change the front shocks for my corvette but I stopped after I finished only one shock from the heat of the weather and the humidity
Beautiful car
Great video! Too bad Jessica doesn't like to be on camera. My Toyota Tacoma came factory with Bilstein shocks.
They are great shocks!!
Does the car ride better now with those new shocks?
Ah, the vicegrips, Was wondering when they would make an appearance again. Using them in all the wrong places and not in the one place you really needed them. (Gripping the shaft when you were trying to buzz the nut off the old shock.)
Well, there is your workout for the day
Oh it sure was lol.
Replacing shocks on a Corvette gone Sexual? Ahahahaha love it.
LOL
They have a tay torque wrench that's half a million. It's a really big son of a bitch though. They use a pulley assist to use it.
BTW, this is why you zip tie the old shock.

Hi Jessica and Tim
Wasn't the Goodyear eagle's the aquatrack ? Not sure was a nice tire at one time !! The back are like new!! probably couldn't afford 4 because of gas mileage. Lol Dope vid & car .💯😎
Love how you eddited your fiance out lmao! Great video!
:) Don't tell her
Secret's safe with me
I have to say…that was one cool azz torque wrench. I have learned from even in this video… and the fiancé is easy on the eyes… from all the undeleated videos.
15:20 BURN! And a thumbs up for Jessica. I hope she'll eventually warm up to the camera. Should watch her some SMA and see how Mrs. O. does it.
Thanks.
It was great to see Jessica on camera.
Nice!✌👍🇺🇸
I hope all the expense, sweat and difficulty is justified when you come to drive the car. You didn't mention how the RX8 is riding after Tim's hard work.
At the end of the RX8 video, text showed all is well with the RX8 now.
Randy calling those bars in the rear "tie rods" confused me, I've always heard bars like that in the rear called toe links.... Unless of course it was a car with 4 wheel steering
Looks like you have some good shocks maybe you can get a few $$ for.
I tossed them lol.
Nice 😊
Thank you.
You got yourself a good one, with Jessica
Not use to big equipment 😂😂
very nice actually ;)
Why didn't u put some grease and maybe a drop of oil on the bolt's moving part when exchanging the rear shock, or by the way on any even minimal movin' and possible rubbing parts ? I think it'll prevents moister, + keeps it slippery, and so extends lifecycle + reduces all kinds of possible noise.
Be careful what you recommend. Adding grease/oil will also attract particles and increase the wear. If you want to lube it anyway, then make sure it's at least dirt defiant.
@@Litanic being careful is still a very good advice
Can i buy ur old shocks?...lmk
F1 IS AN EXCELLENT RUN FLAT...
What about the sport mode and all that
Use a Ratchet strap to keep the shock compressed. Way easier.
Dude you tighten the top bolts to torque spec with the suspension loaded. Same deal with unbolting the old top hat bolts. The content is great but some of the things you do should be in time lapse without all the play by play. Btw some good zip ties will keep the old shock compressed for removal and safe for storage or shipping there’s a reason new shocks come fully loaded.
gm has special sockets for those. There only like 5k each I think?
I found out because a guy tried to steal one from work and got fired. I said to the manager well it's theft under at least if you charge him and he said no it isn't.
That is insane!!!
great job..No finder cover??...Also next time use long nose Vice Grips....
The fiancee, first view and she's doublefisting two addictions. Casually drops an ash right in the garage. I don't see this ending well. Good luck though.
(You'll need your luck since you're not using your experience to make your decisions.)
Its amazing what a coat hanger can do but your on it big boy, way to hang.
I took mine compressed them tied them with zip strip
Randy dont take this personal but i like seeing tim more in your videos then jessica
OK?? And??
I have to admit, watching your struggle with that shock was funny.
Much easier on the other side when we pulled the upper control arm.
Rev up your engineeeee! Oops sorry wrong channel ! Lol
Scotty!! LOL
*not a fan of the good year tires. those little squares in the tread are the wear indicators thry aren't ready to be replaced yet but they are sorta close.too bad those weren't on the back i'd say you had two good epic burnouts eft on those tires. DANG you bought both of the EarthquakeXT impacts? i got the smaller Bauer one and the Earthquake XT 1200 pound. They are made really well. see that "on you tube" on her shirt is in a bad spot. LITTLE TRICK for keeping the shock compressed is strap it down with a wire hangar. then they come out easy.Don't know what her hang up is with not wanting to be in the videos. women working on cars is sexy as hell, could mean a LOT more views for you. there is a couple channels on you tube that have women working on cars and those channels rock in views every month* got my shirt yesterday by the way.in black of course that's all i wear
Thanks man. Yeah too bad they weren't on the back! I'd have footage of the burnouts!! :) Thanks man, have a good one!
A job that requires patience and persistence. Than you.
Tie wier twisted around bottom of shock pull up fead it through bolt holes in top push down lock wier
work smarter not harder. use a ratchet strap to hold the shock compressed.
If that was a good shock , you wouldn't be able to hand compress it as easily as the way you did it!! 6:44
You have a very nice Lady there Randy.
I sure do. I'm very lucky to have her.
I sure hope all the safety nazis saw the jack stand in addition to the hydraulic jack. Maybe they will stop assuming you're not being safe
I sure hope so lol.
19:46 Tim is a true slav confirmed?
No offense but you really sound like Mike Huckabee!!! off of Fox News LOL
👍
Jessica must have warrants or is married to multiple people.....she don't want no camera time!! Lol
