Wow Phil played in England AND in US. What a f*cking madman
I think "what a f*ing legend" was the phrase you were looking for. x
He has played all over the world
@@zachturner8745 he's talking about both Live Aid locations. There was a live aid 1985 USA and UK.
He made it thanks to Concorde. It took 4 hours between US and UK.
Times that don't come back, friend...
@@leobussinger Greta Thunberg wouldn't be too happy but hey!
“I was in England this afternoon, funny old world isn’t it”
innit*😂
Innit 😆
Innit
He arrived there on the Concorde from Heathrow. He wore the same clothes. Imagine flying at two times the speed of sound over the Atlantic, and then singing an iconic song that makes your hair raise, in front of 100.000 people.
Humanity is amazing and we have an incredible history.
He had a different shirt on in Philadelphia.
(Sorry!)
too bad the same humanity sent some of the funds raised to the USSR to buy more weapons for the civil war in Ethiopia.
humanity has some amazing moments. However, deep down, humanity is and always was for the most part horrible, filled with beyond horrible moments caused by horrible people and supported by everyone.
That's what peak 80's look like

God bless Phil Collins. He did 2 performances this day. 1 in England and another in the US all in one day!!! He is suffering today but is still performing live. This is a true showman!!
Bless him!! 🙏♥️
God is fiction
@streamx3m Old age!
@streamx3m Pancreatitis, type 2 diabetes and "foot drop". He's had to appear on stage in a wheelchair and finds it very difficult to hold drumsticks. Must be incredibly frustrating for a musician.
A true Brit and artist, he dont do singing, he's a drummer lol in the mcu?
I can Phil it Collin in the air tonight
Roy Redfield like
THIS IS TOO UNDERRATED
😀
oh boy. Now i cant UNHEAR that. lol
Fuckin' great comment!
"I was in England this afternoon, funny old world innit?" Some sayings you never forget, it's as fresh in my mind today as it was 34 years ago!
I remember it all like yesterday. Fantastic event to have been at. Will never be another like it, too many great at that show (although I think London got the better acts 😊😊)
SO LUCKY!
Gotta love the Concorde.
@Kevin Prima Philly had Clapton, stop complaining!
Phil voice is smooth
He literally could be a one man band.
Suzanne Roussel true, but he is in a band. GENESIS
@Bobby Willis l am aware of this, as l am an 80s girl.
So me born 61 what am?
Now we have Dave Grohl. 🤘
On his album "Both Sides" (1993) he actually played all instruments.
If Freddie Mercury stole the show at Live Aid in '85, then Phil Collins was his accomplice in doing so. Man, what a great performance. Such a crisp and clear voice, no enhancements, just pure vocal and musical talent.
There are overdubs on Live Aid concerts, did you know that?
Queen's performance is considered the best because they aren't only outstanding musicians but because Freddie is an extraordinary performer🤷♀️ Can't argue that Phil is certainly one of the best singers that there's ever been but he doesn't have Freddie's stage presence
U2 did a version of "Bad" that was epic
@@olliefoxx7165 it wasn't bad

I strongly disagree with that
The 80's had it's issues, but I'd go back in a heartbeat to live in this time. No internet, no social media, no bullshit....and just how good was Phil Collins
Issues? More like it was one long issue with a few moments of respite. Sorry, but '80s music sucked. Couldn't hold a candle to that of the '60s, or pre-Disco '70s.
And how bout them cowboys
@@acousticshadow403270$ ruled but I like the 80$
You couldn't do what Phil Collins did on Live Aid back in the 80s - it requires a supersonic passenger aircraft, and they no longer exist :(
So all the other planes are slower?
@@KEJE78 His Concorde flight was about 3.5 hours from London to NY. Commercial flights now can fly that route in under 7 hours. I read that he took helicopters to get there super fast. Yeah, that helped!
@@Starry_Night_Sky7455 I wasn't able to find a single flight that didn't take 8hrs minimum.
@@dreampotion9850 I was talking about a regular commercial flight. He quoted 7 hrs for that when I searched I checked hundreds of similar flights all at or over the 8hr Mark at the quickest. Of course concord only takes 3.5-4hrs but regular plants take 8 min not 7 that was my point.
@@dreampotion9850 thats crazy.. So this is technical evolution now. Being slow.. I flew from Frankfurt to Miami in 11 hours. Its not fun when you're obviously not in the first class. 😔
There’s something pretty amazing about captivating close to 100,000 people with just a piano and a voice.
Yes, that is how we did it back then, it was naturally the very best!
Especially when you're a drummer! 🔥
I'd be honored if some fans of Phil Collins & Mark Knopfler would take a quick listen to my low-fi acoustic piano & vocal performances of AGAINST ALL ODDS and ON EVERY STREET on my YT channel in tribute to these 2 legends of 1980s songwriting & musicianship. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital enhancements. Thanks and stay safe in the '020s.
When he paused for the drum but and they all did it, the crowd lifted after that. Their energy went up so much because they all played drums for Phil Collins for a brief moment, so cool that he gave that to them.
I realised we weren't going to get the drums and was starting to feel cheated but that whole version with just the piano and his voice was epic. I've just added it to my music library!
Было бы невероятно,если бы он застучал по клавишам в ритме барабанов оригинала,но это тоже довольно эффектно и забавно
Best reply ever. You are brilliant to put it so well.
at 3:32 everybody was hoping for the drums to kick in :D
I actually love this version without the drums... proves it's still a legendary song even without that famous part... I'd be honored if some Phil Collins fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of AGAINST ALL ODDS and SLIT SKIRTS by Pete Townshend on my YT channel in tribute to the 80s legends. Yeah ! If you listen carrefully some of them sing it :)

People actually try to sing it there. Its amazing
I air drummed it. No regrets!

True
Just goes to show that everything happens for a reason.
This and I dont care anymore.

The eighties were the best! no f**cking cell phones! Great music! Good people! No mass shooters to ruin an event like this one! Take me back please!!!!!!!!!!
I always thought that was a great perfect time for that song as the sun was going down!..
No lights show, no voice coder, no band, no artifice. Just Phil, a piano, his voice and time is off! Amazing performance.
That's a Real Musician.
Now then, let’s take a second here. This song is possible the most famous drum song ever made. The balls and confidence in your abilities and talent to play this whole song on a world stage and not hit one drum beat is unbelievable. Smashed it.

He flew from London to Philadelphia on the Concorde. Fantastic. A concert that i saw from the beginning until late at night and recorded it on VHS.
He met Cher on the aireplane from London to Philadelphia and took her to Live Aid's stage to sing "We are the world" and the finale concert. What a hero!
Cher begged him to take her along. Other way she was very tiresome and talked Phil to death.
cher asked him if he could get her to the conert. Earlier Robert Plant ashed him, and he and Led Zeppelin played together.

Honestly, all of the performances in Live Aid are close to perfection.
You clearly didn’t see the Led Zeppelin performance
Just watched this again last night on my Live Aid DVD. What music genius. No music aids, no auto tune, pure magic. 200,000 eyes and ears 100 percent locked on Phil, not their phone screens or uploading or streaming to social media. I wasn't even born in 1985 but take me back, please :)

I can hear the legends in the crowd singing the drums in 😂
That's what I call a "concert".
Everyone always talks about the drum fill in this song, but let’s be honest, as powerful and well timed it is, it’s a very simple fill. I ALWAYS preach for people to listen to this song and appreciate Phil’s voice, how it builds up and at the end he just unleashes all the pent up emotion, and builds to that amazing crescendo at the end. I get goosebumps when it fades out every time because as soon as it gets really good, it’s over. Not many songs climax in the last minute. Phil is a musical genius.
Yes
He even made this song awesome without the drums. Not too shabby ❤️
