- A demo of some EMU and OMI CD library sounds for the Emu Emulator II Sampler.
If you're interested in custom (non-library) sounds for the Emulator II, other EMU samplers or the Oberheim DPX-1, see my other video demo's. Email jmp701@sky.com.

This and the Fairlight CMI were my 80's wet dream. What brilliant sounds, some even by todays standards. The choirs are still amazing. Nice ending with the Terminator theme !
Cant believe how good this is sounding even today. Sure it doesnt have a 10" touchdisplay, or 10GB of ram, etc. Its just do what it does, and it does it great!.
6:22 nothing will ever sound as good in the future, unless music comes back down to earth and is snatched back from the computers and humans regain control over the sound. Perfection = crap, imperfection is... life
Exactly how those old trusty computers got man to the moon.
@@mark12011972 sorry but what is that song hes playing I know it but I just cant remember what it is
@@ProjectHMF 6:22 is the theme for the movie 'Terminator'
@@pihermoso11 thanks 🤝
The Terminator sound is out of this world. Amazing
Oh yes,
after 20 years dreaming of an E II, last year i´ve got one of these incredible machines! What a sound!!! Nothing can top this.
i was lucky i grew up with mine
agreed Syncla...this machine was made in 80's...the same period as the Harmonic Convergence...
It blows my mind how few people were involved with the development - and they just got it right. Few instruments since have this character charm.
The emulator II is by far my fave electronic keyboard
All nostalgic and beautiful sounds
Very Tangerine Dream! Esp from the era around the film "Legend". Great stuff. Now I want one.
The 'flute' reverbed sound at 2:14 is just beyond superb
Amazing sounds for 1984, even today they are very usable.
every single sound of this machine gives me goosebumps ...
i need to get me one......
What a great piece of machinery way ahead of its time. Long live hardware samplers! the track at 2:00 is fantastic i feel like I'm going to space or something.
I've heard that one starting after 2:00 in a few things. It is SO evocative, you know? ^_^
One place i know i heard the patch for sure was in a dramatization of one of Ray Bradbury's stories -- "The Moon Be Still as Bright", i think. It was part of a two-part cassette series put out by OMNI magazine in the 80's.
Tangerine dream canyon dreams
I can't stop listening this demo, it's so wonderful and the sound is so pure and powerfull !
This demo is so awesome. All I have is an Oberheim DPX-1 and an E-Mu Emax.....would love that Terminator patch. It's just perfect! Props, man.
i cant play music to save myself, but instruments like this make me wish with burning desire that i could. this keyboard is fucking awesome!
holy guacamole! the terminator theme is amazing!
Génail! que de souvenirs et merci pour avoir partagé. Great job
Ah, this beauty sang on so many of my favourite songs. Thanks, Emu.
BEST OF THE EMU PRODUCTS I THINK
Ok... the question is... who created all those sounds? who created the entire EII library?
That person was THE genious!
it amazes me for real, that his sound this good!.
Gosh, I'd love to have this unit so much more than any of the craptop/VST combo in the world. Emulator II libraries are epic.
fantastic sound of original Depeche Mode! very compliments!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this sampler, Thanks for sharing it.
What a gorgeous sounding keyboard.
Wonderful sounds and a great keyboard.I always wanted one,but never got around to paying the fortune for em! Thanks for sharing.Regards FEZ.
Some great IMAGES there mate !!
I see CD-Roms for sale with titles like this:
eii 8bit sample library volume 3 iso this is the famous eii library volume 3 iso used by dave stuart eurythmics paul wellar style council depeche mode sir paul mccartney
claiming one can load them in Kontakt, EmulatorX3 or Proteus or any soft sampler, and getting the sounds you brilliantly showcased here. I hope vst's can capture most of this, because these ARE THE BEST SOUNDS I've ever heard :-) Thank you for keeping these sounds alive!!
fantastic vid
wow those sounds!
This is an excellent library...
this is the very thing that reminds me of the 80s more than any other.... numan used these and i can still remember seeing the name as they were on TOTP..
thanks for the memories fella :)
very nice, and very familiar - thx fr sharing this.
Beautiful... I have an E4K and an EMAX II HD. I like the sounds very much. Reminds me the day before I started using Apple and Kore, Native Instruments and so on.
Nice pictures also.
fantastic sound
LOOOOVE that drum beat around 30 seconds into it :)
this synth is awesome
It's a sampler.
This brought back memories! Strange how one can remember sounds so vividly.
I paid $ 24500 for mine back in '84 ...including the entire library.
Sold it in '87
Somehow this was my last keyboard to really have a soul.
The best trick is to use all 8 outputs, and pan them hard L - R ...gives the same huge natural stereo as the OB8
I wish I understood the musical language
Perfect song for that kind of video!! :)
That piano sound is pretty hi fidelity for 8-bit samples. Same with the harp patch.
I dig the T2 reference. That score was a great plug for this keyboard.
0:50 Ah yeah. The famous "Shakuhachi flute" sound.
Instantly reminds me of Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
Adam Jensen Yeah and Enigma - Sadeness if put on bit reverb.
ENIGMA
@@sranug Also Tai Shan - Rush and Me or Him - Roger Waters (I believe Waters actually played the Shakuhachi in that one)
oh yes how good it sounds...
instant depeche mode feel :)
i would love to have one ..
LOL the Terminator theme!! Man this thing is a beast!
these old samplers have such a special quality - iv tried the best I could with software, but its never the same.
0:42 shakuhachi
This makes me want to dig out my Ensoniq Mirage and load up some of the EII samples I have for it.
2:08 that sound is used all over FSOL - Lifeforms
norepetitivebeats I thought Amorphous Andronegus also used E-mu Morpheus.
I was just wondering where the hell i knew that from! Thanks.
este sintetizador marco una epoca importante en los 80 depeche mode lo utilizo bastante ..
Wow!!! no wonder this thing was amazing!!! all teh Depeche Mode sounds to say the less!!!
6:35 terminator theme. Must have come from this synth, it must have.
One thing that makes this 8-bit sampler sound so good is its low-pass 24db/oct 4-pole analog filter. It can also do simple wavetable synthesis.
Really amazing. Sorry I can't get one here in Serbia.
Anyway, I think this machine is one of the best samplers ever. If you have other videos, pls upload immediately.
06:26 Terminator :]
realy amazing sounds
Excellent! Nice job. This thing sounds amazing. There was a time when I would have traded my grandmother in for such an instrument.
One of the best keyboards in the world. Emulator 2 and Elka Syntex. I want that shakuhashi or enigma flute
Probably THE first sampler that took advantage of long (well - long for the time - 17.4 seconds) sampling times. A very atmospheric machine and the libraries that sprung up because of it really had some of the world's best samples - much better than the Fairlight's library of very short sounds. I still get chills when playing "Loon Garden" or the ankglung presets on mine - thankfully mine (a II+HD) has yet to fail me other than a sticky 0 button on the keypad.
You're welcome. TOTP , The Tube.... the EII and the Jupiter 8 stuck well in my 80's teenage memory. :)
Composer Patricia Cullen used this in Ewoks and Care Bears produced by Nelvana. The scores were also worked alongside David Greene who produced her music and Milton Barnes who did E-MU Orchestrations.
The choir sounds in "Broken Wings" was from this sampler, as well as most of the sound effects.
hahah Legend sound track around the 5 min mark- very cool
Incredible how this sound font was used for Mr. Dark's theme main lead sound in Rayman 1
Same here (both of mine are 5.25" drives). You can still buy blank disks on Ebay, just make sure they state DS DD. There's more of the 3.5" DS DD disks available if you fit your new drive.
This one is for Tangerine Dream fans of the mid- to late-eighties!
love DM
It's called 'Expensive Synth' as a soundbank, 'Liquid Stack' as a sample patch. Always happy to consider trades :)
My Yamaha EX-5 has that sound. I recognized it as an Emulator patch (well, *sample*) right away! :D
Hi, this is my favourite sound from the entire EII library. It's called Fantastic Synth or Liquid Stack as it appears in the EII display.
Do you have it in any usable format by EMXP (hfe, wav, emax, emax II or Emulator II image format) ?
@@alregis8668 All banks I have are in .EII format recognised by EMXP.
@@JMPSynth would it be possible to have some of them for free ?
You're welcome. There's a couple of EII's for sale on Ebay UK at the moment.
the big lady,amazing
I think it looks really cool myself ! :)
Depeche mode was a nice surprise 😮
2:35 "Wheels". Why thank you, Emu. I was wondering what the hell those were :P
0:34 Depeche Mode People are People.
eastlake93 had no idea that’s where the drums for that song cane from!
Nice!
Heh, yes it does..! Hadn't noticed that before, great scene.
It's called 'Mister E' (I think) and has been used on several 80's tracks including 'Dreams' by Ultravox (as played in the demo).
The CD drive shown was a specific OMI optical CD drive for the EII in the 1980's and is extremely hard to find now, particularly still working. No other CD drives work directly with the EII. You can still buy the Northstar library on 5.25" disks directly via the internet.
Cheers. Original OMI CD's and drives are rare but Northstar Productions still sell their EII floppy library.
cheers fella :)
beautiful sounds there ! the first thing you play sounds like the beginning of "rooms on fire" by stevie nicks.
very good and analog instrument! great and fat sound!
Wow - gorgeous :D I'd love to see a series of documentaries on the sound design that went into each of the samples - so many layers of sound.
Is that reverb on the emulator itself, or is that added after?
Reverb is from a behringer (!) mixer
Argh! Moskwa TV - Interface G at 2:03 ! Had no idea it was just a library preset thing :) Kind of takes away some of the "magic" from my memory of that but cool to hear it anyway :)
This one reminds me of a Depeche Mode song.... Oh this one too... And this one ;-)
The most famous users I reckon.
2:30 Underworld - Mmm Skyscraper I Love You
It's mentioned above. Expensive Synth or Liquid Stack (as it displays on the EII). Part of the OMI library collection (No. 2 I think).
I love those analogue filters! I have an Emulator 4 keyboard but it just isn't the same.
Awesome, I read The Pet Shop Boys recorded West End Girls with this mahine alone. I wish I could get hold of one to compliment my DX7 MK2.
Yep !
2:08 Christopher Franke, Klemania, the opening of "Scattered Thoughts of a Canyon Flight"
They are the sounds used by Ultravox on their track 'Dreams'. Came on a 5.25" floppy disk in a collection I bought a while back. Can't remember the name of the patch bank, will check next time it's fired up.
Love the piano on Somebody, it's the same preset.
awesome
I've still got an Emax II and a huge bank of sounds, I still use it a lot.
can't beat the old machines in my opinion.
nowadays a synth seems to mean a laptop and a cd.
far too many lifeless virtual synths around these days.
(although i did pick up Razor from NI and it is awesome.)
I NEED TO HAVE ONE!!!!!!!!
1/4" jack audio input from any source, a mic. etc. I use WAV sounds edited within a PC, played directly into this input.
Thanks. It's called Liquid Stack or Expensive Synth, part of the OMI library (OMI 2 I think, would need to check).
It's a preset of the Mister E library soundbank referred to above, another preset of this bank is heard at 2.12.
It was a disk called Mister E. I've never been able to clarify which library it belongs to. Ultravox used it on a track called Dreams, other have used it too. It's also featured within the UVI Emulation II product which is demo'd here.
EMXP is available free on the web. Just do a search. SD files appear to be widely distributed these days but please don't ask me to as they're not mine to do so.
It's a background sound/riff from People are People by Depeche Mode. Think you can hear it more clearly towards the end of the song (from memory).
Just listened to the track, yeah the intro pad is definately EII to me.
