It's crazy how deeply the 80s are embedded in me. The sound of the 80`s was so so groundbreaking, like nothing before.
When you start the first note on a Emu or an DX7, goosebumps.....and it brings back so many many unforgettable moments.
I miss the 80`s so so much, and there will be no time be like the 80`s again.

The EII has an excellent character. Sound libraries have their merit, but the analogue/digital (also the DAC) converters make it unique. Loving specially 1:46 :)

Great to see that Emulator out and what a work horse it is. It’s like a little studio to itself. You can see when that came out in 1984 I think? Why bands used it and why it was popular so much. What could do all that in 1984 ? Yeah the fairlight,etc, but they was not so easy to move about. Love the Emulator and it’s all because of this machine we have a fantastic history of good songs and people who took music to another level. Anyway about you my friend. Fantastic playing there and showing us your famous machine. Love this channel and just love what you do. Can’t wait to see more.

@@philippezsiga1125 I tested it personally on emax. It's literally tge same sounds on the same notes. It's possible that the bank on the Emulator II was sampled though.
Pretty sure those FGTH songs were Fairlight or PPG 2.3 when it came to the digital stuff and JP8 for the analog bits.
Never seen any mention of an Emulator? The song "Relax" came out in 83, the Emu-II in 84.

Crockett's Theme: Some say it was made by a layer of Fairlight's "Sarrar" + a DX7's "HARP 2". To be verified
(I did recreate myself this patch with the said elements, plus the obvious rev' and delays, and it's quite convincing)

What are the obvious rev and delays in this case ?
@@bontempo1271 Something simple but I would say it's according to your taste 🙂, something to glue the 2 elements together (the HARP 2 preset is percussive and Sarrar is softer) and give some space around the ensemble.
To be precise I should check to my patch but I'm out of the studio for the next 12 hours and don't have access to my DAW for now.

Crazy ain't it? Less is more I guess. Honestly, I've actually started back recording with my old equipment lately. It seems to bring more out of me 'cause I gotta work a little harder to get on disc what I'm hearing in my head. The best recordings I've ever done were on a 4 track tape recorder with a dual cassette deck and an old 6 channel mixing board with a spring reverb and some stompboxes. All gone forever now because of tape degradation over the course of 20 years. I've really missed the old days. And yes I've used a bathroom for reverb on vocals lol. I'm using a korg 16 track and a mixing board and just a few older fx rack mount units now. The newest piece of equipment I'm using is a korg wavestate. The creativity is coming back using my older stuff.would LOVE to have this piece in my little studio.

E2 the machine that launched New Wave. I was always amazed at the tricks people had to get around some of the limits, and how creative sampling quickly became once the technology was semi-affordable.
New wave was already launched at the time of E1….
Check New Order for instance

I'm curious about something. May I ask where you got the crystal you used to go back in time to buy a fresh, clean, shiny, brand new, unscratched, hot of the assembly line Emulator 2? I also want to get a time travel crystal so I can go back to 1992 and pick up a couple brand new Roland MC50 mk 2's.

I keep repeating it, but one of the main reasons the Emulators were in such high regard isn't just their technical achievements, it's also their excellent and vast sound libraries (and took quite a lot sounds from other synths and samplers, your last piece shows that, playing it with the EII, but if I remember the interviews, Jan Hammer used a DX7 and his Fairlight for that 😉)

Hello, my name is Thomas Lynch and I have an Emulator II+. I just lost all my 5.25" floppy disks library (about 200 disks) of Optical Media International Universe of Sounds from Vol 1, 2, & 3. Do you have any these 5.25" floppy's for sale? Or, do you know of anyone who does? Also, I see what looks like a hard drive installed in some EMU II's. What's up with that? Can I install a hard drive already loaded with a library in my EMU II+. If so, then do you know where or how I can purchase one? Thank you in advance for your efforts.
Sometimes can you find floppy library's on eBay. Or you install a floppy drive emulator. You can find a view info pages in the web.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but wasn't 'Frankie Goes to Hollywood' stuff done on the NED Synclavier? at least I thought it was, some of those sounds are most certainly from it, unless they were resampled into the Emulator II, any insights?

Both FGTH songs were PPG.
I do enjoy your videos and great to see the EII in action, but neither Relax or Two Tribes has EII on them. Relax was mostly Fairlight II and Jupiter-8.
No I play here a EII.
