You HAVE to buy The Sandman: The Doll's House! amzn.to/3bPi3YM
I have sandman vols 1-6 and I still need to get the rest!!!!!
If they really wanted to get into contact with The Corinthian, they should've sent a letter.
How many 1 or 2?
*slow clap*
I'm confused as to how this comment is from 3 days ago.....
@@AGuyWithTheFace patreon; patrons get early access to the videos
Ngl, I think I could beat the shit out of Neil Gaiman. What’s he gonna do? Choreograph a fight based on the first UK bare-knuckle champion James Figg? Perhaps a loud and prolonged weap in the vein of earliest surviving English autobiography Margery Kempe? I think I can take him.
If the Netflix adaptation means we get a sequel to arguably the best back issues episode then I'm all for it!
The rising tide lifts all boats.
If they choose to make this like USM and do every trade I would not be opposed
I can't wait for next video. I might go watch the first again lol
@@Nastyn1nja808 the first sandman episode was the first episode I watched and it’s still among my faves
I like how both Sal and Tiffany both give drastically different choices for stories, but they are all of equal quality; or are at very least equally interesting.
The Corinthian was casted perfectly
“Nightmares do not belong in the waking world.”
“Oh, I think I fit right in.”
Boyd Holbrook knocked it out of the park.
@@SpiralSine6 yes he damn did.👌
It’s honestly so strange how integrated Sandman is to the rest of the DC universe, especially given its reputation as a seminal comic run. Case in point, aside from the Hector Hall stuff, the Family Man was a serial killer John Constantine encountered over in Hellblazer. Gaiman didn’t need to reference that but he did!
Truly! Just goes to show how much he cared enough to pay attention to stuff when writing.
I'll have to do some digging, but I believe that [ OOPs! I meant The Bogeyman] appeared and DIED in another book, so that anyone reading this story knew that, THEY knew that he was being impersonated by a "fanboy."
Matthew the Raven was also the reincarnated spirit of Matt Cable, the husband of Abby Arcane who died in Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run.
For a comic that was considered the ANTI-comic of the 90’s and was considered high brow literature it was steeped in the old horror comics of yore especially in the first arc :Cain, Abel, Eve, Gregory the Gargoyle and Destiny and the 3 witches. All apart of that. Then of course Mr. Miracle and Martian man hunter show up but of course that was of it’s time in 1989. But the use of the Kirby iteration of Sandman and the use of characters like Jed was a real deep cut and then on top of using Hector Hall as the 70s Sandman instead of Garret Sanford was true genius being that hector hall is the son of Carter Hall (hawkman) and Lyta Hall is the daughter of earth 2 Wonder Woman. That would make Daniel ( the second iteration of dream) have hawkman for a grandfather and earth 2 Wonder Woman for a grandmother. Just utterly cool Gaiman did such a thing.
There's a lot of obscure DC comics lore incorporated into Sandman, but it also dropped off noticeably after the first arc or two - several of the characters already introduced up to this point continue to exist in the story, but, barring obscure references, and a brief appearance at the wake, I don't think there are any new ties to DC in what remains.
Tiff, what you’re saying about acceptance in Sandman was so important to me. I read Sandman when I was 10 years old, and I grew up in a very restrictive religious environment. I knew I was a lesbian, and my gender was always kind of weird to me. So seeing characters like Desire, who didn’t have a gender, and Zelda and Chantal, who were in love. It was incredibly comforting to me. I’m openly gay now and use she and they pronouns interchangeably. Gaiman might not have gotten the exact terminology, but that confirmation that I wasn’t alone meant the world to a scared little kid.
Stop making me cry, internet stranger
Kind of rude there to say Gaiman didn’t get the terminology. The man put thoughtfulness and care into those people of different sexualities in his comics but of course it’s never good enough for people like you. Not for nothing but that’s the reason you face derision : not for who you are or what you identify as but how you complain and moan because you feel people do not conform to every little whim that you request. Grow up. The world doesnt evolve around you. Entitled much?
@@cicolasnage5684 I just had a whole paragraph about how it meant a lot to me. My point was that he didn’t get the terminology right, but that didn’t matter because it meant a lot to me. And I don’t blame him for not getting it right, it wasn’t in the public consciousness as much as it is today. I just appreciate that he tried at all.
@@MorriganReads fair enough
This is pure excellence!! Sure hope we can get another Hellblazer episode because Tiffany KILLED IT in the last one. Mike Carey is perhaps my favorite writer, his Lucifer's also glorious. Thanks 4 all the great content guyz.
You can tell the real life sisters/lovers that Neil Gaiman met really had an impact on him because he wrote them into both The Sandman (Zelda and Chantal) AND also Coraline (Forcible and Spink).
I was thinking the same thing, especially with the stuffed and mounted dogs in Coraline
I suppose, but it's not as though we don't know Forcible and Spinks relationship. they're certainly screwing.
That's a trope, tbh. Agatha Christie's novels have a few old ladies that live together and "never married"
1:25:15 Krypton is actually Despair's doing in Sandman: Overture. She convinced Rao to explode
I watched the show because of the back issues you guys did 4 years ago. I was wondering if yall continued the series but was sad when I looked it up yesterday. Today you guys made the next part of the series 😅😂 one can say I am lucky
Also it is amazing that Hector comes back as Dr. Fate for a bit
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS THANK YOU. Sandman means so much to me and you guys introduced me to it. Thank you for everything Comic Pop
Me too I love these Stories
Fun thing I didn't clock until watching the show, but the Family Man is actually a character from Hellblazer and there's a good reason he's not at that convention
I’ve always loved all these stories. Gaiman at his strongest
I so badly want you guys to continue through the volumes of Sandman! I cherish these Vertigo episodes so much, and they mean the world to me. Getting to know the backstory of the writing process, the art, references i wouldn't have gotten and all the in depth info around the book along with a great detailed look at the story itself is a treat. I love how Tiff presents these comics, you can really tell that they mean a lot to her. Let's hope you are able to get to later volumes some day!
Me seeing Tiffany telling the boys about The Doll's House. YAAASSSS QUEEN!
So happy for this! Hoping you reach "A Game of You" cause it is by far my favorite arc.
A Game of You is my favorite too. I also love The Golden Boy issue.
Tiff inspired me to checkout the volumes that my library has. And now you re-inspired me to check it out again and I thank you for that power 😊
Finally what we all wanted tiffinay doing sandman again
I really hope Tiffany continues the series after this because Season of Mists is great.
It's my favorite and I read it TWICE! First as a recommendation and then in sequence.
I LITERALLY just rewatched your original Sandman Back Issues! Its still one of my favorite Back Issues and what made me read Sandman in the first place!
I've so badly wanted toy guys to continue this series for so long
Sorry Sal but I love when it's Tiffany's time to read the book. It always bring so much depth to the story. You're still good too.
I would say I love volume 3 for the short stories honestly and I loved the dream of a thousand cats and facade was a good way to show unintended consequences. Calliopes story was sad but had an apt ending in my opinion while I think the idea that Shakespeare was set to make certain plays (without giving much away) is really cool. I honestly just loved all the sides stories when I was a 13 years old wanting to understand more of this weird and interesting world. I love them now even more 6 years later on reread. My favorite is probably Hob’s story of refusing to die and seeing what that does to a person as his friendship with Morpheus evolves. Nada has sad story at first and definitely deserved more from the start but what a great way to show another facet of the inhumanity of the Endless. Great Back issues so far.
The Bogeyman was killed by Swamp Thing in issue 44 of his book in case y'all want to know.
Mathew came from Swamp Thing too
Sadly can’t watch this episode yet because still waiting for my sandman omnibus to come in the mail and don’t want any spoilers, but putting you guys on my pc while I do other stuff so you guys still get my view. Can’t wait to come back in a few weeks after I read it watch this episode for real.
Thank you so much!! Enjoy the omni when you get it!
@@TheRealZubes thanks Tiffany, your great on all the episodes you host, i ended up buying some comic books like runaways because you were great at hosting those.
Recently been reading some older stuff and found the family man was a character in hellblazer, if I remember right he's a serial killer who kills Constantine's dad? Love how the vertigo stuff ties together
My favorite Sandman story was definitely “A Game of You.”
tiffany and sandman are my favorite duo her love for the more mystic and whimsical aspects of comics we stan tiffany in this house💙😂sidenote sal pineapple shirt is a must have it's fashionable nd looks comfy
and ben is the fly guy stan ben too💙
I just started watching sandman and got to the episode that's called the dollhouse today. I was so excited to see your video! I appreciate you guys so much for everything y'all do. You've been quite a support to me and a lot of hard times. Thank you
Realizing what that convention was about when reading it for the first time, with no spoilers, was great fun.
These make my week!!!!!!! Especially with the show this couldn’t have came at a better time!!!
Tiff is great. Love her passion and enthusiasm.
Sandman is by far, my favorite comic book series of all time and I think is one of the highlights of the medium. I've been reading it for over 20 years and I always find it illuminating, hopeful, captivating and soothing. I know it's a hard ask, but I would LOVE it if you were to do episodes for all of the books, even if Tiff would only go in-depth on her favorite books.
Keep up the great work!
I screamed in my bathroom when I saw this uploaded. I am stoked. Thats my 2nd favorite of the Sandman books.
Which one is your fave?
@@TheRealZubes season of mists is my top fav
So thankful for back issues, when you guys did the first volume all those years I ago I read it and then went and got all the other volumes after!! Thank you guys.
This should be the next ultimate Spider-Man for back issues. Tiff comes in and does volumes of Sandman here and there and covers the whole series. Could be fun
Tiffany episodes are always a treat!
YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSS PART 2!!!!! Was just watching the old Sandman episode
I just wanted to say that in 9th grade the Prelude and Nocturnes videos were my first on this channel, either after or before I had just recently read Prelude and Nocturnes, but the problem was my middle school didn't have volume two. They had most of the series, just not in order, so it took me until this year to go to my local library to find out they had the rest of the series, at least until kindly ones, so I just wanted to say you guys are great and thanks for getting me into Sandman
Omg this brings equal amounts of joy & dread to my heart as I realize I am ancient! I think I was in my late 30s when they did that episode!?! lol So glad to see they have successful influenced younger comics fans into reading this classic! Cheers to you my young friend!❤️👍🏾
@Langley M Neely Thanks man, although I got one of the details wrong. It wasn't sixth grade, it was 9th grade, but all the same
Always a good back issues video guys, looking forward to vol 3 in 2026!
FINALLY IM SO HAPPY YOU GUYS ARE COMING BACK TO THE DREAMING
Destiny being the oldest Endless while also being the oldest character of the bunch in real life is a neat little thing.
Such a great book and I am so glad both Audible and Netflix have injected new life into Sandman. I hope as time goes on we get to see more Sandman volumes on the podcast
Welp, here's another back issues episode where I gotta press pause, read the book, and then go back and listen to the episode. Thanks for the Supergirl episode and this one, keep being awesome!
One minute in and Ben with the bad joke already. Jesus 😂
Great episode as always! What a pleasant surprise!
When the sandman show released I came straight back here to see if there was any Sandman action. There wasn’t… until today. I knew it!!! I’m so happy!! Please do more!!!!!!
Just finished the show, the first audible collection, the previous back issues and I’m currently reading the black label “Sandman Vol. 2” trade. To say I’m currently obsessed with Sandman is an understatement
I've been waiting for this one. Excited you guys are going back into Sandman.
Ohhh snap! So ready for more Sandman on back issues! Thank you!
The audio drama is awesome; it really paints a picture of the story, especially with Gaiman's narration. The big two should use the audiobook as another arm of getting readers.
So happy to see Sandman back. More Sandman and old vertigo please.
Fun fact: the reason The Family Man never shows up is because of shit that went down in Hellblazer.
Issue or volume?
@@Noah5110 Vol. 4 of the newer trades, called The Family Man.
Great passion for Gaiman’s work on display here from Tiffany. It’s quite touching.
I’m so excited to listen to this all the time
I watched your first episode about six times before I just went and bought the whole series. I love Sandman. This series is so good. Thanks, Tiffany and ComicPOP! for showing us these books and making memories from watching your shows and then from reading or rereading the books themselves. Now I'm going to reread The Doll's House and probably the entire series again.
yay!
More Sandman!! I'm so happy!!!
Just finished reading this last night because of your suggestions in other videos. Excited to watch
Been waiting for this one for so long. Hope you can do the whole series.
Love to see you guys finish this series.
I'm so glad you guys went over this story, I watched it like it was my first time hearing the story.
Damn another I’ve got on my shelf to read that I don’t want to spoil for myself, least I can do is help the algorithm
Finally this is here!
I've been waiting for this moment! One of my favorite Sandman volumes
I just watched the other episode of this last night. I was really hoping yall would do another. You could say I even Dreamed about it.
I just finished their last video when they did Sandman. So cool to have them doing another set this week for the show
Hell ya! More Sandman!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH
Been waiting for another sandman video from you guys! Just started the series too
Why we getting blessed with so many Tiffany hosted episodes it aint October yet 🥰🥰
Yeah I definitely have to watched this multiple times today
Extremely excited for vol. 3 now. Don't make us wait! 🤙🏼
Just starting the episode, but wanted to add that the Audible versions are great. Very close to the original, even things that I would have expected them to cut (you get J'onn J'onnz in the first one!)/ Great stuff.
Sweet! You know, the first episode you did got me to buy the whole series, so it’s not as new to me but I can’t wait for the reactions from the couch
I just finished reading dollhouse on Comixology and just finished watching those salad episodes now this episode comes out. Tiffany is using her witch powers to subliminally make me buy the rest of the Sandman
Doooo it
As Tiffany said, "passionate love" at 14:50, I thought she was about to say the F word. Lmao!!
Fantastic!!!
I legit have to praise Tiff. She has recommended so many great stories. She is a gem!
Netflix adaptation clears a lot of small plotholes too tbh, it's really some hard work done by gaiman
Finally it is here!
I was pleasantly surprised that Tiffany was reviewing "Doll's House" now that both Sandman adaptations are available. I'm also glad that you touched upon Volumes 3 and 4 which I enjoyed more than Volume 2 but I still appreciated how each of the volumes interconnect and reveal the rich texture of the entire series. Incidentally, I believe that Gilbert was patterned after the author G. K. Chesterton, creator of the Father Brown mysteries....
YES!!!! More sandman!
I started reading Sandman a couple weeks ago because of the Netflix show. I am on Vol 3 right now. This was such a good episode and was really neat to have just read this recently and get to listen to you all talk about it so close to me reading it.
I want to say that Fiddlers Green is modeled after G. K. Chesterton the writer of the Father Brown short stories. Gaiman opens Coraline with a quote of his: "Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed."
Lol all I was trying to do was not say D. G. Chichester. So at least my brain didn't do that while it was going for the correct info.
@@TheRealZubes you were great. Sorry if I came off a little "well actually..." in my post.
@@MrHoudini1985 no no it's fine, I just remember very specifically being worried about Chichester's name popping up bu accident
As someone that really enjoyed the show and looks forward to new episodes next month, I recognized a lot of the story! It was eerily like hearing an alternate universe mostly coherent recap. I also noticed some slight differences. Tiffany, you're always the inquisitive and philosophical host, and that is always refreshing 🧐
Yay, I’ve been hoping you guys would do this at some point, maybe for the Halloween run up you could do Original Sin in Hellblazer, and if your ever able to get through Season of the Mists, possibly some Lucifer, but I get the feeling Sal would like to do Alan Moore’s Saga of Swamp Thing before any of that. That being said I’d also love you guys to do Grant Morrison’s Animal Man or Doom Patrol that would be a good laugh.
I’m from the UK in one of the neighbouring counties to Liverpool (I can genuinely hear the gits when they win football matches) so John is a character close to my heart and I’ve always enjoyed Giamen’s works regardless of what media it’s in. I would love you guys to talk about the real life inspiration for Lucifer too, for those who know, you know.
"American Gothic" in the Saga of the Swamp Thing is the Back Issues that I would like Comic Pop to do the most. Plus, it would tie into 'The Sandman.' Not just the obvious, like the first appearance of John Constantine, but also explaining what happened to the actual Boogeyman and the war between Heaven and Hell/civil war in Hell that Lucifer mentioned. Cain and Abel, too!
Hey guys this was an amazing episode, I’m really glad you guys got to talk about what happens to Wanda in volume 5. I actually met Neal Gaimen a few years ago during a talk he did at suny purchase. I brought him my favorite volume of the sandman, which was volume 5. It was a really cool experience because I got to talk him about how powerful Wanda’s death was and how it effected the fan base. It was a really cathartic experience to meet the person who was responsible for writing what I believe to be one of the saddest deaths in all of comics. I hope one day you guys talk about A Game Of You, because I don’t think any other comic has effected me on a emotional level like that one has.
AAAH MORE SANDMAN BY TIFFANY!! LETS GOOO
Watching this episode on Sandman while I'm going to sleep. Doesn't get more perfect than that
I can wait till the next one!
I remember reading this some many years ago and it was awesome. The show, which I haven't seen, gave Sandman nostalgia so I picked up Overture.
hi guy great video I'am watching the show and its good to hear you guys go more in to the comics because it helps me understand the show more.
Thanks Tiff for covering this. A classic with Neil firing on all 8 cylinders. ComicPOP rules! 🤘
Just did an impromptu reread of the whole Sandman series thanks to this episode and the Netflix series. I was wondering if you guys (Tiffany in particular) have ever read Matt Wagner's Madame Xanadu series that ran from 2008-2011? It's a really good run, with stunning art from Amy Reeder Hadley and a few guest artists, plus Death of the Endless pops up and plays a small but key role in it. Despite multiple Eisner nominations, it seems to be a woefully overlooked Vertigo book; I've personally never talked to another person whose actually read it, and only a few who've even heard of it.
Letsgo new episode!!!!!
Having the family man referenced in this is great!
Awsome! I just watched the show and then the Back Issues episode on Preludes And Nocturnes. So this was perfect timing. Btw, I think the show is great.
Fidler's Green is Gaiman's homage G.K. Chesterton and early twentieth century English writer. (If you ever read his best works, particularly The Man who was Thursday, you'll know why Gaiman is so attached to him.)
Good Fortune and Collectors are my favourites of all these.
