  • In this video, we go over the Chase Trifecta credit card setup which I think is the best credit card setup to travel for free in 2021. Chase has some of the best credit cards for travel in this Chase Trifecta which include the Chase Sapphire Reserve, the Chase Sapphire Preferred, the Chase Freedom Flex, and the Chase Freedom Unlimited. If you want to learn how to travel for free with credit cards, then this video about the Chase Trifecta will help you to do that!
    Throughout this video, I go over all of the points earning categories and benefits for the Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited, Sapphire Reserve, and Sapphire Preferred. Depending on what you want to pay and how you value those benefits, you can have either one of those Chase Sapphire credit cards along with both of the Chase Freedom credit cards.
    After I go over why I like the Chase Trifecta so much to earn points to travel for free with credit cards points, I also talk about some of the downsides to this popular credit card setup. And at the end, I finish by talking about the welcome bonuses that you can earn on all of the cards in your own trifecta setup which can be insanely valuable!
    What do you think of the Chase Trifecta? Do you have a variation of this setup or do you prefer other credit cards instead? Let me know down in the comment section below!

    So glad I ran across your channel and video. I’ve always been one to shy away from credit cards as I’ve only gotten in trouble with them in the past. Recently I jumped onto the “travel with points” train and I haven’t looked back! My credit thanks me and I’m excited to see where it goes. I just recently applied for and was approved for the CSR and have had the Freedom Unlimited stowed away for a few years now not being used. Perhaps the best thing though, is having the annual fees waived as a military member, so this is an absolute win!
    Keep up the great content and take this sub!

    Great video Daniel, super clear. I got the 100K CSP, but unfortunately now I’m in 5/24 jail for another year. 1 awesome hack to get around the lack of a good grocery store multiplier is with a 4th card in the no AF chase business cash ink card. 5x on office supply stores, load up on gift cards and your set. Especially with the $750 SUB

    Solid setup, I’ll have the same in a few months. Like you said, you have to make sure you’re able to hit that $4k spend requirement. If it wasn’t for my planned 100k mile maintenance on my car, and being able to pay my car insurance policy in full, and paying off the (small) balance on my iPhone XS (i was determined to squeeze every penny out of the $200 credit T-Mobile split over 36 months 😑), I wouldn’t have hit that requirement. I was happy I went with Unlimited over the flex, for the very reason that I didn’t want to have to remember to activate the categories eachquarter. Turned out that the unlimited offers 5% back on groceries for the first year. Yeay! Good video. Great job explaining the setup and honest review of the few drawbacks. I'm considering this setup sometime in the future when I get freed up on the 5/24 rule. My biggest hangup is Chase doesn't cover everyday spending (gas and groceries) as well as the other major credit card companies, although my Sam's Mastercard covers much of that for me. Still, it makes me consider other setups seriously. If Chase addresses that, it would be a slam dunk.

    Quick question, if I can redeem points at 1.25% on the CSP and the categories are the same as the CFU - Why would I need to use my CFU and then transfer the points? Instead of simply using the CSP in the first place.
    The CFF makes sense with the rotating categories but just curious since the CFU has the same points/dollar as the CSP.

  • @dongpengli7758
    @dongpengli7758 Před 2 lety +2

    Great video (again) Daniel! The only thing that I'm currently concerned with the CSP as someone who has already joined the Amex bandwagon is that I anticipate to have most of my spendings with Amex cards given how useful the gold is in everyday spendings and the platinum is in traveling. With that said, I probably won't spend much with Chase. In that case, would you still recommend going for the CSP and paying the $45 annual fee? Thanks for the great video again!

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for that, I really appreciate it! Some good points you bring up because if you're not earning as many points with Chase, then is it really worth it to get the CSP?
      In my opinion, the CSP can work for anyone because even if you do have a $45 effective annual fee in year 1 after the hotel credit use, you will still get at least 60,000 points to use for travel. Then after year 1, you can downgrade to a no annual fee CFF or CFU which you can just keep open and hardly ever use if you don't want to. The downgrade options to no annual fee cards with Chase make it a zero-risk option in my opinion because you are guaranteed a positive return in value for year one, but have the option for no annual fee with the same account and different card in year 2.
      If you end up liking Chase and get the Chase Trifecta, then the CSP is still great to keep open to redeem those points! Plus there's also great Chase business cards with high UR point bonuses if you have a business which I like.
      So yeah, lots of options and its up to you, but that's what I think of the CSP!

  • @HaYourReadingMyName
    @HaYourReadingMyName Před 2 lety +9

    I was debating between the CSP and the Amex Gold for a while now. Since I already have other chase cards would you recommend finishing the trifecta first before moving onto AMEX? Only reason I was hesitant was because the CSP doesn't really offer any other cash back incentives that the freedom unlimited and flex offer. But it seems like the 1.25x point redemption is worth it if you plan to use the points for travel.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Před 2 lety +5

      Great thoughts there! I have the same concerns about the CSP not being the best card to use everyday and truth be told I really don't swipe it that much ever. But the benefits and points are too good to pass up which is why I recommend that card over the Amex Gold right now. 100,000 Points with Chase is $1,250 towards travel at a minimum and your other Chase cards will earn you even more. Then after a year, if you really don't want to pay the annual fee for the CSP anymore then you could always downgrade to another no annual fee Freedom card (even if you already have them). The Amex Gold is great too but the opportunity cost of not going with the CSP is too high in my opinion with that value. Then you could always get the Amex Gold after completing your Chase Trifecta which is what I did. I hope that helps, but both of those cards are really great!

    • @cryptodev2615
      @cryptodev2615 Před 2 lety +1

      Depends on your lifestyle and if you are traveling with and can bring a guest for free.
      I wouldn’t normally spend $45 on a meal for myself while traveling. I come to the airport prepared with snacks etc.
      I’ve had priority pass for almost ten years and it’s often not very good or in the wrong terminal, or last night it was closed at 8PM, right when my connection arrived.
      It does have value if you can use it often enough and you’re not on a company expense account.

    Do you know of any loopholes in the Chase point transfer system that would allow me to transfer my Chase points to my brother without breaking the terms of service so we can book a hotel splitting the point cost 50/50 even though we don’t live at the same address? Otherwise one of us is going to have to pay the other back in cash and I don’t know if it would be fair to pay back half of what it would have costed without using points or the cash back value of half the points used to book it with.

    Awesome video Daniel. I’m getting into applying for credit cards now that my score has reached 700. Would you recommend getting the chase flex, unlimited and reserve/preferred trifecta before an Amex trifecta? I have a large immediate family so I spend quite a bit on everyday purchases and also travel a couple of times per year. Let me know what you think.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks Rob! Personally, yeah I would say that going for a Chase Trifecta of cards is better to get before going over to Amex cards. I have both Chase and Amex right now but typically most people like to start with Chase because of the 5/24 rule that they have if you are familiar with that. By getting the 3 cards in the Chase Trifecta over the course of a year or so, you'll definitively be able to earn a ton of points for travel! Then you could always move over to a card like the Amex Gold after that which would be great for grocery spending if you are feeding a large family! Hope that helps, but yeah I definitely recommend starting with Chase
