- A new patent has been causing some discussion online around Nintendo's next generation device, but not the system itself with a new feature being explored. It looks like Ubisoft is set to reveal another game for a franchise that is all of a sudden getting a lot of attention.

My first thought when seeing that Ubisoft is going all out with Prince of Persia is hopefully they don't go too overboard, almost like when they gave the rights to Disney to make a Sands of Time Movie back in the day lol. The Lost Crown was great so I'm optimistic, but one thing Ubisoft knows how to do is make fans' excitement get deflated over their games

17:33 Just a note, FF9 isn't stuck on PS1. There's also a steam and Nintendo Switch version of it. I have them both (haven't tried the Steam port yet) but the Switch version runs pretty well for me. FF9 is my personal favourite, but FF7, and FF6 are so close as well that it's really hard to choose. If I could only pick a remake for only one game between FF9 and FF6, I would 100% want to see a modern version of FF6. I understand loads of people will disagree with me, but I'd even take a FF6 Remake over a ChronoTrigger remake! I think a ChronoTrigger remake would have to look like either Sand Land or Dragon Quest 11 to maintain the Akira Toriyama art style of the game. If ChronoTrigger had a different art style in the remake, I think it would take something away from it for me lol.

I think that the idea that turnbased RPG's have to be slow is wrong. Yes, the old FF games are a bit sluggish, but they're old games. Back then, it wasn't just turnbased games that were slow then either. Modern turnbased games can be fast and snappy if the developers aim for it.

I also don't like the wording of that middle poll option. He took it to mean combat but it included visuals so many may not have meant they wanted the combat to change.
It would be cool if FFIX Remake resembled something like DQXI. Fully 3D with great visuals, but fully traditional in all the gameplay systems. I would buy that game in a heartbeat.

I'm going to be honest, I find it really annoying when people blame Tetsuya Nomura for the crazy out there stuff in the FF7 Remake games, especially when we hear that he was the one who wanted it to be a loyal one-to-one remake.

Fans blame Nomura for everything Just because KH is convoluted. Hell, he directed but didn’t even write every KH. Though he has more control there. But if you have an issue with 7 Remake’s plot, take it up with Nojima who wrote it, or FF series producer Kitase who pushed for this direction. But people aren’t gonna look into the internal details of game development. They just want an easy target they can blame and move on lol

I think Silksong will be a Summer release around July & it'll be via Xbox's show with it being a day one Game Pass release.
Silksong will launch digitally first in July and then physical in September bundled with a digital code for Hallow Knight.
Final Fantasy 9 is already available on modern consoles, it may be just a port and not a remaster but it's still there if you want it

I'm pretty sure that the guy making the comment of the day wasn't concerned so much about a change in gameplay (although it could use an update and some tweaking - but don't take away my turn based team control!!) as much as modern Bioware is going probably gay everything up and completely rewrite what was already an amazing story. "Reimagining for modern audiences" never means gameplay or graphics - they always mean that they're going to "make the males less toxic" - "empower female characters" - "increase representation". How though? Make Canderous Oro a butch lesbian? Take away Carth Onasi's flirty pickup lines? Have Mission Vao banging Zaalbar so there's love for furries? Bastila Shan don't need no man? I just have no hope for this.
I get why Jon dodges that issue though. A huge part of the appeal for his channel is his professional demeanor, which he would be compromising by giving attention to stories that will spark political conversation or expose his personal bias for one side or the other. That and he doesn’t want YT to screw him over. I get why people want it addressed, I know I do, but Jon knows what he’s doing. And I don’t mean that in any bad way, it just is what it is.

SW pretty much presents these stories and news in what I consider maybe the closest thing to unbiased as you can get on YT. I don't want that to change. It's refreshing to have just facts presented to you and then you can take those and form your own opinion without someone force feeding you their rants. FF9 holds such a special place in my heart that i really don't think I'd want to see a remaster on the scale of the FF7 remake. I would be perfectly happy with turn based combat and graphics similar to what's seen in that fan-made demo of the opening area that was going around youtube last year (the Memoria Project).

You obviously have no clue how much time and energy it takes to find these kinds of exploits but think that he should give it away for free to "the community" to which youve never even contributed. Bet you've never once donated to any of these researchers or modders either. The worst part is that it literally doesn't even hurt "the community". Even if the exploit was leaked publicly first, Do you really think Sony isn't going to find the tools/code that you found on Google or a CZcams video description? In either case, the bug is quickly patched and only those on lower firmwares benefit regardless, the only difference is whether the finder gets paid for their efforts and can continue to find new exploits for the rest of us who don't have the time or skills. This isn't even a new practice, just some idiots making videos/posts about something they obviously have little knowledge about.

Theres no way nintendo's next console does 4k. Nintendo games barely do 1080p as it is. Much more likely theyll focus on getting and maintaining constant 1080p 60.
It makes absolute sense that YoshiP said it's a secret when asked about the FF9 references and stuff in FF14, cause chances are it directly ties to Dawntrails story, whether it be the main story, or the patch stories that come after. Endwalker was the same exact way with the FF4 references and preorder bonuses having to directly relate to Endwalkers story, hence the it's a secret remark lol.

Once again, I don't think your polls are leaving enough context to the turn based argument. If Persona can reach such peak marketability with turn based then thats not the make or break factor for a modern JRPG. I think the presentation, menus, and pacing of combat in those PS1 FF games are the real things holding them back. The ATB system paired with copious menus just doesn't read well, and some might even argue that FF6 aced the concept and every subsequent game struggled to innovate, especially considering how limitations forced them to cut the party from 4 to 3 members.

This. I like turn based and action rpgs for different reasons. But I kinda hate when action rpgs give you a party that you can't switch to to control in battle. They're right there, the ai is usually dumb, forcing me to do the heavy lifting and micro managing of battles anyways. Like, if I want to play as the tank or the healer, let me switch to the tank or healer.
A Franco-Belgian styled platformer actually sounds awesome! We have actually had a few in the past, Marsupilami got a DKC style game, but I like seeing it explored further!

All we need for a Final Fantasy VI remake is HD 2D visuals, and preferably the added GBA content. Otherwise, keep it 1 to 1. Doesn't need a ton of funding or dev time. Just take what already exists and make it better.

The dock thing looks really cool, would really help in my current setup where the Switch Dock is on the right side from the monitor making cable management a bit worse since the cables also go to the right.
It seems like a solid, Nintendo-y solution. I’d love that or a design that moves all ports to the very bottom and looks the same on the front and back.

A Dock that can flip which side the cables would be on. I could see that working.
I think FF6 should get an HD2.5 overhaul at the least. It would be cool to see a 3D remake, but a lot of the charm was how the little sprites would bounce and dance in cutscenes.
At this point the dime-a-dozen action RPG with great value Devil May Cry/Bayonetta combat is a lot more tired and overdone than "static turn-based"
FF9 remake being as close to the original as possible is in keeping with the spirit of the original game. It just makes sense that 7 would be the ambitious remake and 9 be the true to life remake that pays tribute to the series’ roots.
I remember making my first video game back in ~2005 with Game Maker. It was like $30 at the time for the program.
If the next Nintendo system is similar to the Switch and its dock, I would welcome the option for the dock to act as a memory card slot 2 so to speak or at bare minimum, have a USB port that'll allow users to attach an external hard drive to save & store their games.
I'm not sure about that. I like that idea for giving gamers a way to expand the storage out of the box (as long as there's a hard drive, assuming option 2), but the problem would be undocked play. It would all depend on the audience. For those who primarily play docked, especially with bigger games, and then take it out of the dock to play around the house, or on the bus, it'd be an excellent idea. The problem would be for those who primarily play it portably, and wouldn't work at all with a Switch Lite (assuming there is a Lite version of the new system). I'm still leaning towards having the extra storage be on the system (with preferably more storage built in so you don't need to buy an SD card day one).
Don't see it here yet but FF IX is on the switch, PS4, and XBO for anyone who's interested in the return to true fantasy for the series
As a final fantasy fan I love how much the series is in the news now. I agree with another CZcamsr nightskyprince statement that for us finds we are in the silver age for the series. Depending on where it starts is a fun debate but either way, great time to be fan!
I never want to hear Ubisoft talk about Beyond Good and Evil ever again. They will ruin any and all expectations they have set. Just let it be their Half-Life 3.

PE2 barely made it past the million mark and 3rd birthday sold like s**t, I highly doubt SE would invest money on a remaster, let alone a remake of a failed franchise.
Square should be taking notes from the Super Mario RPG remake. It was mostly the same game with a visual overhaul, and some updates. Nothing major was changed. It played as a turn based RPG with timed hits. The changes were enough to make it more accessible, but didn't change the core game. It sold tremendously well, and was loved by critics and fans.
No shade for claiming the bug bounty, but announcing it like that was just poking the bear. Anyway, I agree with MVG that Game Maker is an absolutely excellent place to start, if you have absolutely no idea where to start. :)

For a new switch dock, it would be nice if we could get local, removable storage in the dock. Micro/SD, SATA, or M.2 would work, but something that I could dock the console and have the more powerful games directly hook up to play there

Imagine Nintendo launching a new Dock that overclocks OG switch (extending its life for like 7 more years), and having a situation similar to what happened with 3ds and new3ds, where most games launch to both consoles, but they perform better in new3ds.

I'd suggest (not that I expect Nintendo to actually take my idea, but just for fun) that the new dock have either a built in graphics expansion, or the option for one. It would be something like the expansion pak for the N64, that would let the system keep up graphically down the line. It could be necessary for a few games, but best to be an option for many games to get better graphics. When undocked, you'd get lower resolution, or other compromises, but that's in line with play currently. You play docked, with a pro controller, to get the bigger experience on a large TV screen. You play with the attached joycons on the go when you care most about portability. This would also give some flexibility, like again, the expansion pak. It certainly didn't let the N64 overtake the PlayStation, but it did help keep it competitive, allowing for exclusives that were visually impressive (Perfect Dark, for example).

For some exploiting is a career, responsible reporting of vulnerabilities is a part of their code of conduct within that career to maintain their professional industry certifications. Leaking these findings vs reporting may put their entire career at risk. I want to have fun with my consoles also, but not at the risk of others and their ability to provide for their family.
Good for Ubisoft to recognize Prince of Persia and basically revitalize it. Wish they'll do the same thing for Rayman and give us a new Rayman platformer already. Rayman Legends came out forever ago

Dead Cells looks like it was inspired by the original Prince of Persia - the animation and level design - I love their artistic choices for the new game, sounds promising

I just recently bought Final Fantasy 9 remastered, it was on sale, this was my first FF game back then in 2000 on my old ps1, and I'm now enjoying it with my wife and son, my wife adores Vivi. The game is even better that I remember. Long live the turn based goodness.
Honestly, I doubt it would happen, but I'd love for Square to pull a Vanillaware with an FF6 remake and make it look like the original artwork come to life. HD-2D would be cool too, but imagine all of those original illustrations living and breathing on the screen.
I say its gonna lie down like the patent looks like so maybe extra hardware in dock and hopefully switch screen backwards compatible that it will slide in
Final Fantasy 9 is the only final fantasy i've beaten to date.
There's a variety of reasons for that, but I think Final Fantasy 9 is a masterclass in recursive storytelling with layers melding into eachother.

I’m not the biggest Noruma fan after the time travel mess that happened with kh 3D and 3 but he is the one keeping the remaking trilogy in line with the OG you should be looking that the writer of 7 remake trilogy who also wrote the OG 7 nojima. Both remake games has been 90-95% the same until the end, how is it completely of the rail?

I'm playing through FF IX for the first time at the moment and really enjoying it. I would mainly want a IX remake to be different enough to justify playing through it again. Like, maybe just give it a visual/graphics overhaul to make it more in line with the VII Remake Project. Remake the character models and environments, maybe change or expand upon the minigames, but don't alter the story or characters as much as they have from the original VII.
I just want amazing visuals with turn-based combat.
For FF9, maybe the Gambit system from 12?
Since both KOTOR games had their gameplay based on how DnD plays and how well BG3 did, I think it would be best and awesome if they kept it relatively like it was but also creep more into how BG3 was played. Just with the sudo real time turn based mechanics like the originals.
I believe the new Switch console dock will include a chrome cast feature that will allow for streaming Nintendo games at 4K up to 120fps when docking the console. You heard it here first gang! It’s coming soon!
Honestly there’s no cheaper alternative than streaming Nintendo games in the clouds. You’re getting 4K up to 120 fps with unlimited storage options and much more! For a fraction of the cost of trying to offer it to everyone with powerful hardware that will be outdated in a few years.
I thought we’ve known for years that the KOTOR remake was a first person shooter with RPG elements? I am thinking something like cyberpunk. Didn’t they reveal this when they first mentioned the remake years ago?
I think the Nintendo switch dock you just showed in the pictures was probably a concept for the current Nintendo switch in my opinion it's absolutely has nothing to do other than a talking point for people to initially chew on until if they ever actually announce what the next console is because I'm under the assumption that there isn't even a console at all they should have already announced what the console is going to be and at least gave us a trailer of what it's going to look like

My switch dock I got that mini plastic case (off amazon) that you can transfer the stock Nintendo dock guts into and you then have a mini dock that is much easier to travel. I've been using it for many years now too. I don't see much from that patent that would be switch 2 stuff, just a patient to cover a way to rotate the pcb in a case so it better matches your setup.
I think the switch 2 will use the stock OG switch dock for 1080p but the 4k stuff they will sell a separate dock that is able to do that. I expect no dock in the switch 2 system box. All for the better! Nintendo should go that route and put the "dock" money into the switch 2 system itself. It also means less wast too. You want/need a 4k dock? Then it's an extra $50-$80 for it. Yes, if I had a 4k tv I would pay extra for it no problem.
This new Switch Dock patent from Nintendo gives further credence to their next system being a dockable handheld.
Everyone expects Team Cherry to announce it with Microsoft or Nintendo, so the biggest social media virality would be acchieved through a State of Play since NOBODY would expect that.

Final Fantasy IX contains many of my favorite gameplay mechanics to this day, so I am very much on board with a more faithful port, or *slightly* more active style akin to XII, but I honestly am not here for the constant push for action combat. Beyond that, the one thing they could do to truly alienate me as a player is the same rug pull they did with VII Remake. If they want to make a sequel, be clear about that from the beginning, do not change the damned game after touting it as a way to experience the original story with updated visuals for over a decade (reminder, the first tech demo and mention of that game came out back on the PS3). That said, I wouldn't mind them actually laying a little bit of extra context for the shift to the final boss. That was... awkwardly handled in the original game.
SilkSong got a Gamepass deal, so i expect marketing to go the XB path, tho, if ask me TeamCherry should market towards the Switch, if i'm correct that's the best seller on the indie market, beside PC.
