A friend of mine said it best: Nintendo is that one kid on the playground who lets you play with their toys, but only the exact way they want you to, and they throw a tantrum as soon as you deviate even slightly.
Nintendo also did the same thing with Minecraft where if you wore a skin from the Super Mario skin pack, then you couldn't play with your friends or anybody
you could if both of you actually owned a switch
I think he was talking about not being able to play cross-platform when the mario skin is used because minecraft is crossplat between switch and xbox@@Yoshizuyuner

I think that Nintendo is very aware that it effectively has a monopoly on the Japanese game market. If they extended to PC, it would shift all of Japan away from console gaming
Not just the Japanese market, they have a monopoly on the gaming market in general.
I'm a short itallian with facial hair....
@@mr_m4613Nintendo’s got no monopoly on games, outside of Japan. Sony has a monopoly.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 no Nintendo has a monopoly in general as well. Why do you think Sony and Microsoft are moving the way they are because they're working together against Nintendo.
@@Adamtendo_player_1Nintendo definitely has a monopoly outside of Japan. The success of the switch, the mario movie, the theme park. They are literally the disney of gaming.
Nintendo is refusing to change with the times despite being pioneers in the industry - how tragically ironic
What "change"? They just didn't add a character to a bad game, that's fine.
probably because the current times suck right now for gaming I'm happy they aren't jumping into the major trends
How is refusing to put characters in Fortnite means refusing to change with times? The thing is Epic didn't come to agreement, they need to agree with Nintendo's terms if they wish to get Nintendo characters into Fortnite just like how Sony and Microsoft got Master Chief and Kratos in Fortnite. I mean Master Chief only appeared in the Xbox version and Kratos only appeared in the PlayStation versions so why can't Samus be only appeared in the Switch version?

Nintendo knows what it's doing. The company makes bank for a reason, and is Japan's richest company by no accident.

@@technobladeleakedclips1827 say what you will about Nintendo, but their employee retention rate in Japan is very high, mostly because japanese work culture, and how it's treated there
I think Nintendo just has this mentality of the fact that their IPs should only be on the game version thats on their consoles so it makes other players have the reason of buying the game on that specific console only. This worked in old times where it would be in their story modes as skins or even dlc like sonic lost world. The reason its not working now is because theya re trying to implement this to fully online games so it is almost impossible to arrange it so that only the Nintendo players will have access to that content. They should really open up their options to modern day and age and understand that its not the same anymore.
A lot of us are thinking “Man I hate Nintendo”, and I get it. In all honesty, I wouldn’t be very surprised if 3rd party developers stop sharing their characters with Nintendo and asking them for their characters because of this.
People will definitely stop asking Nintendo for their characters if that attitude continues. I don’t know if many will stop sharing their characters though because at the end of the day it’s still money and advertisement for you. There definitely a chance some would though.
They aren’t
But they won’t, y??? Because the switch is still one of the best selling consoles of all time. And there’s a reason

It's already almost May, and there still isn't a Nintendo Direct! BRUH
I know, what is Nintendo doing?
I believe they only do one in February, May, July, and September. Usually the ones in May and September are mini-Directs and the ones in February and July are main directs.
You have to wait for June for that and they just had a Partner Showcase in February then they had a Indie World Showcase this month. I don't know what else you want from Nintendo.

Fortnite has pretty realistic guns in it, I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't want characters like Mario and Pikachu in it for that reason alone
Yea, but it was Samus Aran that was on the table!
The Fortnite Devs knew that they didn't have a chance with Mario, Zelda or Pokémon.

I’m totally fine with Nintendo not putting skins in Fortnite, once Nintendo starts shearing their ip it becomes less protected. One thing that keeps Nintendo's characters great is how protective they are of their IP.
All that and I truly hate Fortnite, it ruined gaming
So, by that logic, you would support corporate monopolies, right?
@@zacharyallbrook5162 That would include not supporting sony and microsoft right?
Nintendo not having their IPs in fortnite makes me respect them even more.
Also, I mean for the smash thing. Chances are, they aren't the ones begging for all those characters in the game. They are probably being asked. Like Microsoft probably said "we want Steve in your game" which is why Steve is in the game! But nintendo isn't the ones asking to have their characters on other consoles. Its like a kid saying, "hey, i want one of my toys to play with your toys!" And maybe nintendo is willing to let other characters to play in their game, but just dont want to have their toys in the others games.
They could just allow a Henry Fleming skin from Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., eh?
I don't play fortnite, but just seeing mario or any of nintendo's bright, colorful characters holding a dark realistic gun just feels wrong. Even if you gave samus anything except her blaster arm. I couldn't even see samus with a realistic gun either. It feels wrong.

@@Thatoneguy64243 yeah, it would actually be pretty funny.
I really don’t care for Fortnite, so this doesn’t bother me
In general if you care about what Nintendo is doing then it's not only about Fortnite but about them and how they are so stuck up about their own characters being only available on their own consoles and characters only being exclusivly seen by switch users only is the problem here.
I dont even play Fortnite myself but its still one
You can't be more mistaken. Nintendo values its characters. Nintendo knows their value and won't compromise their real exclusivity for a frivolous game like Fortnite. When you think about iconic videogame chars, Nintendo's get the spotlight and that's why they've got the privilege to get other companies' chars and don't allow the opposite...
Thank you. Samus in Fortnite would cheapen Samus lmao
Are you dumb? Genuinely this is a question are you stupid?
You are saying it as if fortnite is some random game. I mean i get it its not like it’s basically one of the biggest games in the world, and if they added samus maybe they could get even more traction for their metoid games. Like cmon man i get that nintendo is rich and all but at least dont try to make fortnite sound like some random indie game.
@@vernal5545 never said indie nor small game. I just used the word frivolous. I recognize it's a huge game, but Nintendo's chars don't have anything to envy about that game's reach...

you have a point, but that was forever ago. Oh... wait the live action mario movie
Honestly this is the same companies that made the content creator program to "Collaborate with CZcamsrs" so is it really a surprise that they don't like to collaborate with other developers for their games? They always seem want everything for themselves. Nintendo dose not seem to understand very well what an indirect benefit is. They act like if they collaborate with any of these companies for their games they will just magically take away their IP or something. I really don't get it.🤦♂
As a Nintendo and Fortnite fan, it really does suck that Nintendo is being so overprotective of their IPs. I get that they don't want Mario, Isabelle, or Kirby shooting (realistic) guns, but the more "mature" series would fit in well, like Samus, Link/Zelda, Captain Falcon, Fox, or even Little Mac! I would totally drop V-Bucks on bundles for those characters, especially Samus, Link, and Fox
Link and Zelda would look really odd holding guns. though Link has used a crossbow in one spinn off title. That's the closest Link has been to using a gun.
Probably only Samus and the Star Fox Cast would Work
The only way for Nintendo characters to get on there is like you said, if they were exclusive to the Switch and not on other platforms. Nintendo doesn't want their characters appearing on other platforms for some reason.
They could’ve made her a Switch exclusive purchase wise but she can obviously stay visible across platforms
That would still be a bit iffy, but way better than the alternative
Just make her a exclusive pack skin since Nintendo has never gotten one
That’s what Nintendo suggested. Epic said no.
@@EWOODJ that’s not what they said they said it would be a Nintendo exclusive and on other platforms it would look like a default did you watch the video
I assume this is the same news update Gamexplain did like an hour or two ago.
I watched a video about which of the 7 sins various video game companies are, and they hit the nail on the head for Nintendo; their biggest sin is pride.
Yeah... I love Nintendo but I won't say i don't think they're decisions are dumb at times because they really, really are
Yeah with the directs
having nintendo character in fortnite would be fun.
Nintendo are the boomers of the game industry I fuckin swear
Nintendo is goofy my friend, they really are
Very true
You know what they also are?
…
Unbeatable B)
In a way I get it... Nintendo doesn't want their bright colorful star Mario be portrayed with a gun.
- It would make young kids growing up with Mario get used to more mature games that have violence and weapons.
- It would make kids more whiny and spoiled about asking their parents' credit card to get v-bucks for that one mario skin.
- It would enrage the butthurt/karen parents who are like "video games cause violence!!"
Nintendo doesn't really want to sell out their characters. They want to stay original. So putting Samus there would be nice, but then it would lead to fans wanting MORE nintendo characters like Bayonetta. which is a bad idea given how literally sexually appealing she is.
Plus, it would be more annoying to hear kids go "LOOK IT'S MARIO FROM FORTNITE!!!" while not knowing where this plumber REALLY originates from. I can see it happen, it happened with Kratos, Master Chief and a bunch more!
I mean we have XENOMORPHS in there, so I can already imagine a Ridley. But just no.. I see why Nintendo would do that.
The Mario + Rabbids Games:
Nintendo's problem is that they only want people to see their characters on Nintendo consoles. It already has failed, because CZcams in other consoles, but will they give up? I mean, come on.
LMAO, good point 😂
Thing is that videos aren't official material, so they don't care about that.
CZcams and web browsers and the like are one thing. Actual game software is another.
It's seem like mobile devices is as far as they'll go from branching their own characters out on to other platforms. Like with Mario kart tour, Dr Mario world, and Super mario run.
Nintendo Is being…….Nintendo again. Me: What?
Yeah. his title made no sense nor had any effort put into it!
@@G.L.999 atleast he made a title lol
Credit to Nintendo for this. Its business decisions like this, that kept Nintendo around for so long. Microsoft put master chief in fortnite, and it still didn't boost halos popularity. Nintendo knows not to let western game companies just do what they want with their IP.
I understand some people frustration about that, but nintendo doesn't need fortnite to advertising their products, I think it's still fun that people act like Nintendo doesn't know what they're doing, even with switch being the 3rd best selling console of all time, the 3DS was popular, wii sold 100 mi+ and DS is the second best selling console of all time, not even couting how almost every nintendo IP broke sales records during the Switch era.
1:21
Considering they allowed Sakurai to mention XBox, I think it might be they don’t want to steal the spotlight from them.
They also did this with Skylanders Supechargers. There are DK and Bowser Skylanders, but you can only play them on the Wii U.
1) Old News.
2) Samus appearing in Fortnite will get her noticed for about two weeks, before the players move on to the next skin.
3) It was Epic that rejected the terms, not Nintendo, and
4) Appearing in Smash Bros is the equivalent of getting an Emmy or an Oscar; appearing in Fortnite is the equivalent of getting a Razzie. 😂
Remember when the name “Nintendo” was synonymous with industry and business innovation and playing along with others? Pepperidge Farm remembers
The only things that irritate me this year are:
Nintendo goofy business
David Zaslav greediness
and CZcams Community Guidelines strike
And in similar news, Nintendo has also recently issued takedowns against Garry's Mod, meaning that Valve now has to trawl through almost _20 YEARS_ of Steam Workshop content and remove everything Nintendo related. I understand being protective of your IPs, but this is just ridiculous.
I also find it funny how borderline passive-aggressive the Garry's Mod post was. The subject line was simply "It's Nintendo, need more be said?"
Imagine the thousand year door remake has Kevin voicing Mario instead of Charles.
They also feel the same way about fan projects. Anything that uses their IPs (fangames, emulators, mods, the like) are targeted or taken down by Nintendo. In fact, I'm pretty sure that when people pirate or leak their games, they go after them for using their IPs and not the actual crime.
I don't want Nintendo stuff on non-Nintendo stuff. I don't care about non-Nintendo video gaming things not counting some arcade games that came to Nintendo and the Mario shows.
They are also being themselves after waiting 20 years with Garry’s Mod, SFM. The whole nine yards
I wouldn't fault Nintendo for being prudes about their characters showing up on rival consoles. But I have a different beef with Nintendo, hiring western localizers with a focus on DEI. They re-released Paper Mario 1k year door and the three male Goombas that were cat calling Goombella had their dialogue changed to a non-offensive throw away line because of "toxic" masculinity. Despite the fact Bowser routinely kidnaps Princess Peach in order to force her into marriage.
Personally, you gotta give Nintendo credit. They did a solid by staying away from fortnite. I'd work with others but not on games like fortnite. I wouldn't tolerate my character being used to crudely shoot at others.
did you not know he was talking about FORTNITE , and NOT fortnite battle royale , they are different , fortnite got a creative mode , racing mode , music mode ect , so how those gamemods have any shooting ?!
This is just crazy with all the Samus in Fortnite and stuff
On one hand of this, I don't care because I don't care about Fortnite.
On the other hand, I do care because this is Nintendo being bitter jerks again.
Side note if fortnite dies it will be good for gaming. FPS is the MOST played out genre.
*3:33** Why did it take you so long just to get to the point?*
Probably to reach the ten minute mark.
The reason Nintendo is being Nintendo again has to do with the fact that the company is being run by people from the mid/late 20th century. They are stuck in a certain archaic business mindset refusing to adapt or compromise. The company is in dire dire need of some change.
sometimes, I feel like Nintendo is being dumb, not collaborating with other games kinda sucks, I would've loved to play as Samus in Fortnite, but since I retired from the game and Nintendo denying the request is just.... sad, now with this Nintendo copyright going on is like, the Lawsuit arc from SMG4.
Everyone else does what Nintendon't.
This is information that has been known for years though
Nintendo’s desperation for control over their IPs is frustrating, but they know they can get away with it. It doesn’t matter if it’s anti-consumer. You’re still gonna buy the games anyways.
To be clear, I’m not blaming the fans. Buy what you want to. But still. Having your characters on other platforms would get them interested in getting a Switch and seeing what all the hubbub’s about.
The only thing holding Nintendo back is themselves.
If only half of the people pretending to be upset about this online actually bought Metroid games, maybe the franchise would not be as "niche".
Not blaming this channel or others for jumping on this (by their own admission over a year old) non-news though, you mine that outrage and play that algorithm man, get your bag I respect it.
@Nin10Doland: Keeping it exclusive to a certain console not only Nintendo does this. The game Superliminal the multiplayer feature is exclusive to steam, also I heard that maybe Xbox only with the console Xbox game pass have the multiplayer option, and I remember seeing it but I can't find the video again.
I think it's due to copyright junk: some lawyer said that if they loosen up in any way, they'll lose the rights to their own characters, similar to disney...
I knew it....Nintendo never will have their own characters crossover on another plateform ever and if they ever do its going to be exclusive to their own cosnoles.
Honestly, if they did it would be great exposure for them and their games, but no they don't want that....like why its so frustrating!?
Why didn't they just like... Make it so you could only *buy* nintendo skins if you have a switch? I mean its still keeping it switch exclusive while still being seen by everyone
Admittedly every single character in smash bros had/ has at least 1 game on a Nintendo console at one point in time... Even if the game they were in was 10 to 20 years old at the release of the smash game they were in...
But definitely agree it is still hypocritical...
About the fortnite thing: I am very sure nintendo is **mortified** by the notion of nintendo characters appearing on any other software than one owned by nintendo, since they know that their characters and games are what save their asses whenever they screw up, and if they did not have that safety net they would be dead in the water.
I know its not goofy. Goofy is a Disney character. Also goofy is a characteristic and a personality. Nintendo is Asian. Very few of their cartoons barely understand that version of that character.
they don't wanna add samus because if zero-suit was in the game, she'd pass through the fortnite thiccification filter
cowards
They also did this for minecraft with their mario mash up pack, the mario skins can't be seen on other consoles and pc
nintendo dont need fortnight, fortnight needs nintendos ip/ branding,
the characters like Metroid can be advertised on smash brothers a already massive crossover game lol just cope
they just recently sent DCMAs to Garys mod modders to take down 20 years worth of mods yesterday so...yeah... they giving off that old man energy for sure again -_-
Nintendo knows nobody buys their systems for power and specs. They make money on their unique IPs. I can understand them wanting to protect them at all costs, as to have longevity in this industry they need to preserve their selling points. There’s room to argue if a mere skin in Fortnite would jeopardize anything substantial, but I can at least see the reasoning
Yeah the whole reason I'm the biggest Fire Emblem fan known to man nowadays is Smash Bro Melee back in the day. Because I wanted to know whose these cool princes were.
They didnt do 1 specific collaboration with another company? HOW COULD THEY?/s usually im not on nintendo's side with these things, but this is just the most minor thing of all time.
Things like this is why I was super surprised when Cadence of Hyrule happened. Yes it is only on Switch, but they let another company make a Zelda game.
On top of that it was an indie studio
This is more a problem with Japan. They have a closed economy and are approximately 10 years behind the rest of the world as far as the things that are prominent in pop culture and the way businesses are run. They dont have much legal precedent for fair use and they dont engage with media and culture from places outside japan very much. So they literally feel that certain things are threats to their IPs or brand integrity when in reality laws in places with fair use will generally protect them.
Is Nintendo a dead company now?
I don't exactly agree, bro. I see where your coming from, it being stupid for only being seen by Switch fans but it IS Nintendo's IP, Character, Female suit wearing blonde sharp shooter. Tbh, I understand them, if your that crazy about Nintendo characters, won't you be playing on Switch? Won't you have already played Metriod Dread if you're that eager to play her? There is enough other characters for other people to enjoy (if they don't have Switch) for Nintendo to make it exclusive. Remember the saying: Professionals have standards.
Fortnight has their own version of John Wick before they added John Wick.
Why not make more characters like that?
Bring in Mega Man to justify arm cannons and then make Zero Mavus or something.
Captain Eagle could have an Eagle Strike that acts like Captain Falcon’s Side B followed by a Falcon Punch.
Same situation for the Mario Minecraft texture pack on Wii U/Switch
It's called exclusivity... they want it to be something only on their console.. it's their IPs.. they wanna give their players something they're not getting anywhere else..
Man it reminds me when valve refused to let the tf2 scout into Fortnite 😭
We knew about this when it happened a few years ago. Why is it a problem now?
Can’t believe this video came on my birthday 🎉!
Mario on any other platform other than Nintendo is just cursed IMO
You make good points. I like that Nintendo doesn’t white their IP out but sometimes it should be okay for select crossovers. I even understand Samas being exclusively playable on a switch, but viewable!? Why wouldn’t you want Samus to be seen from other platforms? Wouldn’t that be like free advertisements for people to be like “awe! Man I wish I had a switch so I could play as that guy!”
They also did this with the wii version of marvel ultimate alliance. Link and samus where supposed to be in it but for similar reasons they said no
As a lifetime Nintendo fan I’ve never had interest in Metroid because it just doesn’t feel like something their proud of so I haven’t tried it. I never really see Metroid just hear about it
Nintendo sucks when it comes to situations like this lol
on one hand Switch has the most fun games of the 3 main consoles and they seem to do more stuff with their franchises/characters than Sony and Microsoft
on the other hand they make a lot of questionable decisions and are a bit too dmca trigger happy and don't seem to like crossovers unless they have it their way
