A buddy did a single turbo conversion with the pulsar g42 1200 on his Audi S6 (4.0tt). The turbine exploded. He said it’s not real inconel. Replaced with the true Garrett g42, no issues. Could be due to the extra heat that engine produces
I've never had a Garrett ball bearing turbo fail, and they are technical leaders in turbochargers ... that said I'm going with Pulsar because I can't justify spending 3x the price for a turbo that is not going to be stressed to the maximum.
While the wheel specs are the same, Garrett put their money in the twin piston sealed bearing cartridge and the turbine wheel is made from Mar-M alloy. Without and in depth comparison of the inner workings I wouldn't write off the Garrett. Some say they are a rip off but there is a reason others copy them, they spent millions on R&D / manufacturing. Much easier to reverse engineer something than make it from scratch. A Pulsar turbo is cooler than a fake Rolex but they are in a similar vein.
It's getting to the point where the knockoffs from China sometimes are so good that it's not even worth buying the genuine thing. I'm sure if you're a professional race team, Garret units have better quality control and that matters, but for the price you just can't beat the Pulsars.
c’mon guys you can get either T4 or V-band from either company, plus they’re interchangeable, because the A/R can vary depending which is offering what. So if one has the A/R you want and not the other, np.
So i hear stuff on both sides. Garett says "quality" and pulsar says "price!" Yet i can't find any psr failures. I have the money for garett but id like to spend my money in the right place
For the price you cant beat the pulsar . Nothing wrong with garret but pulsar is good for the price . I have 2 gt 3582r garrets and a 3584 pulsar . Bush vs bb pulsar wins .
Nice info! They definitely did a hell of a job cloning. Then it just comes down to material quality, which in many aspects I would bet is similar. The bearing package is going to be the most expensive component you would hope isn't cheaped out on.
Well they make a T4 divided housing for the Garrett too. Maybe he didn't have that one to compare but that isn't something to use to make your choice because u can get both options from garrett
I run pulsar on all my cars .. t51r mods. Gtx3076 , g42-1450 and g30-660 all set top notch turbos , wouldn’t use anyone else either cause you’ll never find another turbo of same quality for pulsars price
need to do spool test on something like the n54, I did tests with the pulsstar G30-900 and genuine Garrett. the pulsstar was HORRIBLE. even with a 0.84ar turbine housing, the pulsstar was 800rpm slower to spool to 32psi. taking 4800rpm in 3rd from 2500rpm. My genuine Garrett g30-900 spooled 32psi at 4000rpm while being in a bigger 1.06ar housing. unfortunately didn't have a Dyno but the pulsstar felt significantly slower and I lost the ability to get my xi awd to go a bit sideways from a launch. even swapped my 225 rear tires back on from my 255s
You could get 3 gt42 turbos for the price of one Garrett. I like power and to drive so as long as it makes boost. I don’t give a shit what the name says. Although the cheap ones have been proven to hold up the same power numbers
It would be interesting to see a dyno comparison of the two

Does anyone have this turbocharger on their Polaris RZR? What can you tell me about its performance and quality?

Is the G42-1200 a direct or very close fit replacement for GTX4294 Turbo?
also looks like a point vs flank milled compressor wheels
its the same, I compared a gtx3584rs to a pulsar copy 3 years ago. Just dyno'd a G35 and made the same as a legit one on 50+ psi

Just ordered a pulsar g35 900

What pulsar t4 turbo is it?
