Very solid advice, without sounding like a know-it-all or being condescending towards Filipino’s. Going on 25 years married to one, I have visited there 6 times, starting in my late twenties. First time, drank way too much with my newfound brothers in-law’s. Everywhere I went, someone would offer me a drink. Then realized that’s not who I want to be known as over-there. And as the only white person I have ever seen in her town, you stand out. Over the years I believe I have developed a mutual trust and respect with the town folks. Stay away from the booze.

I have 2 businesses, it took me 6 years before I was confident it was the right thing to do and only because I was married and I had a good group of friends I knew I could trust. You cannot do business in the Philippines without Filipino support. 12 years ago I had an export business to Manila from Australia and my partner was Filipino with very good connections. My advice is to come to the Philippines with enough money and income to support yourself, make sure you have money coming in from back home, the Philippines is not a good place if you don't have much money, the locals are already struggling to get ahead the last thing they want is a foreigner struggling to. Forget about relying on a job, wages are extremely low and not everyone can be a successful CZcamsr

Everything you have said is bang on. I have lived in Ecuador for 8 years and it is the very same here, I married an Ecuadorian and own a small farm. Here you be respectful of others, be polite, keep it simple and lay low. The Philipines was on my radar before settling here.
Very thorough, useful, practical advice, Mark. I'm happy to hear that life is treating you well in Dumaguete. I've always enjoyed my travels in the Philippines , and have gravitated toward Dumaguete and Siquijor in the past, so perhaps one day our paths will cross. Great spots, and keep up the great posts.
Great advice, one of your best videos! I learned from experience that most people in world think that Westerners all live in Hollywood and the streets are paved in gold. And I agree, some of the foriegners that are 10x worst. Solution: Vet everyone, both locals and foreigners. Lessons Learned: 1. Don't make other peoples problems your problem. 2. Don't feel bad that some people are poor. 3. If its not you, they will always find someone else to use. 4. Treat everyone with Dignity and Respect.
Just to correct you. In PH, all deposit accounts are automatically insured by BSP or Central Bank by 500,000 pesos. If the bank gets closed, you will get a max 500K pesos.
I have lived full-time in the Philippines for over 9 years now and all that you say is so true, the first thing I learned was patience and respect, and keeping a low profile. The people create this attitude and the longer you stay the more you become like a Filipino. I have fitted in so well because I have always had the attitude even in my country Australia to look and treat everyone the same and that is more so here. The two-week millionaires ruin it for us guys who live here. Driving or riding ? I have been doing those things since I got here and all over the Philippines and I have never had a problem because if there is an accident I pay the standard 4k and all is good and never do road rage that is the biggest no-no in the Philippines. Scooters are for guys who have never ridden or dont know how to ride , I am an experienced rider and scooters are dangerous , the riding position is all wrong, if you know how to ride and are experienced the xr honda dirt style bike is the best option, otherwise get a car, over 6,000 people die from scooter accidents every year
One of your BEST videos Mark. Very helpful & telling of the different culture there. Keep a low profile & don't discuss your Social Security / Pension / Savings with anyone. Much of what you say should go without saying but in a new country , new setting things can get forgotten. Appreciate your input especially when Failure Is Not An Option ! Oh almost forgot what you said about marriage there .... forever & ever ! OMG !
I have been living full time in the Philippines 10 years now and I had my own business in Manila back in 2012, I dont get involved in anything , I keep a low profile I dont stand out , I am off the grid so to speak, I just associate with a couple of expats that are good friends outside that I only associate with my wifes family, its simple , live a relaxed and simple life here and there are no dramas I dont get involved in business or anything to do with mon ey, I would not have come in the first place unless I had the pension, you will never earn enough working, it took me two years to sort out my affairs before I felt com fortable moving fulltime to the Philippines

Great video, and I've seen many about the Philippines! Thanks for sharing.
Nice video. Thank you for the kind words. Stay safe.
Great tips. 100% makes sense.

Hi Mark ,thanks a lot for your kindness and the information you share with us .I wish you good health and all the best.
i've been involved with a girl online while i am still here in the States, and she has been separated for many years, what you say in the last segment of your video really hits home, thank you . . . this HAS been on my mind, but you just reinforced it, friends and family con$piring against me . . . need that certificate of no marriage!
I think this is the best video I've watched. A lot of good advise!
Great information thanks for sharing! Take care and God bless you all! David
Easily one of your Best Videos!! Keep this type of content coming. Thank You Mark 😀🌴
Another excellent video!...one of my favorites.
Thanks for such a high value video, This video saves me for so much stress and money. I still want to go back to the city where you live now, because its quiet and by the sea and they have great food
Lessons Learned:
1. Don't make other peoples problems your problem.
2. Don't feel bad that some people are poor.
3. If its not you, they will always find someone else to use.
4. Treat everyone with Dignity and Respect.
Important thing to remember about banking. In USA most accounts are insured. Not so in PI. If the bank goes under you could have a problem.
Just to correct you. In PH, all deposit accounts are automatically insured by BSP or Central Bank by 500,000 pesos. If the bank gets closed, you will get a max 500K pesos.
I love Valencia! 🤗 We had our community nursing duty there when I was studying nursing in Silliman University. They got the best fruits there😀
Sound advice! Thank you, sir!
Good video with some solid advice 👍 Probably the best one you've made for the majority of your audience. Great job.
Cool channel. Your Story is inspiring.
Thank you!
Great info. Thanks for the all the wonderful information. Keep them coming! Thanks again!
Yep, Best video I have seen. Tons of great info. Great job man.
Scooters are for guys who have never ridden or dont know how to ride , I am an experienced rider and scooters are dangerous , the riding position is all wrong, if you know how to ride and are experienced the xr honda dirt style bike is the best option, otherwise get a car, over 6,000 people die from scooter accidents every year
Fantastic video.Concise well planned advice for anyone planning to live or visit any country as a guest. 👍👍👍
These videos are good Mark. You really have something here. I think its your voice and good continuity.
Great video ! That information is priceless. Hope it doesn't cause you trouble cuz bad people don't like their secrets revealed.
Well done Mark.
OMG !
You give great information like Mr Steve another expat. I appreciate you being honest about the information the sam as he does.
Thank you Ricky
I have been living full time in the Philippines 10 years now and I had my own business in Manila back in 2012, I dont get involved in anything , I keep a low profile I dont stand out , I am off the grid so to speak, I just associate with a couple of expats that are good friends outside that I only associate with my wifes family, its simple , live a relaxed and simple life here and there are no dramas I dont get involved in business or anything to do with mon ey, I would not have come in the first place unless I had the pension, you will never earn enough working, it took me two years to sort out my affairs before I felt com fortable moving fulltime to the Philippines
I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Very informative. Thank you.
Great Video, Thank You. It is good to reinforce these thoughts. I will probably come back and watch this again before I come down there :-)
