I actually think that’s where he was going with a joke. You just have to be knowledgeable of opera or Italian in order to get the joke. I think most people just laughed because it’s a guy singing soprano.

Coming out to one's father by singing a Puccini aria( written for a soprano). Works for me.
I always sing our local Italian festival for my opera company as a strolling street singer trying to raise money and awareness for the company. Everyone always wants to hear this aria. At first I would say "that's Loretta's aria, can I sing you something else?" . Eventually I learned it and sang it and sadly, it raised more money than Largo from the Barber of Seville.....and its much easier to sing.

His delivery of this joke has gotten better and I like now how he uses a faster pace. I think he’s also gotten more confident.

The "everybody dance now" killed me!! I went back to rewatch just that part and even though i knew it was coming i still choked on my pop tart laughing when he did it :'D Its just the way he does it!!! It cracks me up.
Lesson to learn: Do not stick food in or around your mouth when you know you are going to watch or re-watch something funny.

The fact that he sang the "everybody dance now" bit in a higher key than the original. DAMN
honestly that's not particularly unusual for a trained male performer when a capella. his vocal bridge is probably too close to the original key to risk ruining the bit so he shifted it slightly up to prevent his voice cracking. also since he's (clearly) a tenor it was probably easier for him to go up than try to sing a lower key in his chest voice with the same level of bombast. he's a great singer though.
my stomach muscles now hurt at 9am due to how much I’ve laughed at this comedy segment. And that ladies and gents - counts as my pre-holiday gym workout.

One night I had a little too much wine and started telling all these “funny” stories about my mom and she was sitting right there. She was a good sport though.
