Imperfect for you is a fantastic track.
true
i didnt get it the first listen, but her singing it live did it to me. it's so beautiful
i wish you would’ve focused more on the narrative based on the concept with eternal sunshine of the spotless mind etc, rather than talking about rumors and her personal life gossip. this album is so pretty and introspective, and wasn’t meant to be understood from the lense of the gossip, but from the storyline behind the erasure of relationships and memories and dealing with the change. i loved it and personally it’s a 8/10 for me :)
You can't really ignore thr "rumors" (confirmed by the ex wife) when the album addresses them? Like are we not suppose to talk about the boy is mine or what?
@@sarahjh4364the rumors were actually denied by the wife ya dummy
@@sarahjh4364 True. This album feels like it wants to be a deep, introspective look at love, loss and moving on, but it comes off like "here's why it's okay that I did what I did" and people like to feel like the people they support and cheer on are like-minded and generally good people, so on one hand we don't have a right to famous people's business, but if they project that and make art around that, we can definetly unpack what we've been given.
Would’ve been an 11/10 if the tracklist were:
1. Intro (the end of the melon)
2. Bye melon
3. Don’t wanna break melon again
4. Melon returns interlude
5. Eternal melonshine
6. Melonnatural
7. Melon story
8. The melon is mine

13. Ordinary melons

I loved the album. Sonically it's cohesive. It's her only album I listened to start to finish like 5x. I think she deserves some of the negative press. I would give it a light 8 , personally.
I agree, I think it's her best album to be honest. I had to listen a couple of times until I realized which songs were going to be repeats for me, and I definitely have a few. Way better than most other pop albums lately.
I know riiiiight? (with the press and the score)
I’m so where between a strong 7 and light 8. It’s certainly one of her better works like Yours Truly, and Thank U, Next. Not as great but one of her better records
As much as I like the album thank u next, I feel like eternal sunshine would age a lot better than it.

I’ve only just started listening to Adriana Grande so I don’t know how well this album compares to the rest of her music, but I really enjoyed this album. Imperfect for you is an incredible song.
Sweetener and Thank You Next are her best albums
@@-Clockworks446Not here for the 7 rings slander. It fits because it shows that after she heals in a relationship, she’s back to that toxic version of herself as shown in the ending with BUWYGIB, and loops back to Imagine. That’s how I see it anyway.
if u enjoyed it, u might like the rest of her discography. there’s different elements of like all 6 of the previous ones on this album. but imperfect for you was definitely new territory she doesn’t have any other song like that.
@@-Clockworks446naw dangerous woman is the best album
Now the album has arrived, I can't help feeling "Yes, and?" was almost a 'bait and switch' leading people to believe this album would be a departure from the Ariana sound we've known for the past 5-6 years. We _were_ told the album would blend House and R&B, however, after 'yes, and' comes and goes, you discover the sonics are revisiting sounds from her previous works rather than bravely striding into new territory. Sonically you could argue it's 'more of the same' rather than the re-invention she teased. For example: I thought she might leave the trap production behind, but it's clearly a comfort zone for her (where she effortlessly glides). That's pretty much my only nitpick (if you can even call it one). The feeling of familiarity didn't stop me enjoying the project or the concept bc it's just so well executed. There isn't a single song I can say I dislike. I particularly found that hauntingly ethereal melody on "Imperfect for You" so whimsical and charming that I think it's already one of my favourite songs in her discography.
Imperfect for you is one of my favorites too. I’m hoping after her performance on SNL it does really well. I was disappointed she wasn’t going the House route as I thought it would be following the Renaissance trend but it was more of the same. true story, and, imperfect for you are some of her best songs in my opinion.
i do think this album has some familiarity too it, it feels like such a perfect blend of all 6 different ari albums in one. but it’s also so very different. she doesn’t have a single song like bye, supernatural, the boy is mine, we can’t be friends, imperfect for you or i wish i hated you in her discography. but they were all so well done. i’m glad she didn’t stray too far from the trap and r&b because i personally love that sound from her, tho i know many want her to switch it up. but i appreciate those like u who won’t let the lack of “re-invention” stop you from enjoying the music. because if the music is good, then it’s good!
Supernatural gotta be my favourite. Just so catchy
You encapsulated my thoughts perfectly. "Yes, And" got me excited that the carefree dance pop (think 2006-2012 or so) was making a comeback but I will admit that I was disappointed on first listen of the album.
The style of some songs, especially with the trap beats, felt derivative of her last couple albums. Though the album has been slowly growing on me now that I've gotten over my initial shock and disappointment with the direction she took the album, sonically.
I will say though, "We Can't Be Friends," while a decent song, I feel like needs the music video in context to truly grasp the range of emotions hidden underneath the surface. The song is solid, but the music video took the song and elevated it tenfold in my eyes.
Overall, I think it's one of her best albums so far.
i completely agree w you !! love you way you explained it as i was having some difficulty finding the words but bang on !
As a fan I think this is one of (if not) her best albums because it's not bloated and the vision is more sonically and thematically consistent than most of her previous work. The current situation around her is definitely kinda icky but I choose to take these songs at face value (sans yes, and? because of the one line), and maybe that's willful ignorance but in interviews she's said this album was meant to be a gift to her audience for them to interpret things how they choose to. If that's how it was intended to be seen then that's how I'm gonna take it because honestly I don't know her or any of the people involved in this situation and streaming services don't pay people enough to justify me feeling bad about listening to artists who make questionable choices. Maybe my feelings will change over time, but I loved it on first listen and subsequent listens have been just as (if not more) enjoyable.
I can understand why you'd feel this way about the album though, it's kind of hard to enjoy like half the album if you're interpreting it with the context of her life in mind.

wow melon you didn’t have to say that she was better off just singing that santa baby song forever
Well i gotta say, im glad i found your channel. Your opinions are amazing and you value the melodies and not just "wow their lyrics are personal therefore this album is the best of theit career" which is today's MO and its annoying as heck. I like you mentioned how some of the lyrics were odd to the moment she is in, "the boy is mine" really really...felt icky. I couldn't even enjoy the song per se knowing exactly what it was about meanwhile everyone was pretending it was okay.
I have to say to me this album does have some good songs but to me it again feels like at the end of the day the melodies are still following this modern trend of basically refusing to give a decent and emotional release? It's almost monotone and if you keep listening on repeat (without being a fan of the artist) it can get tiring. --- (in a way i blame this on tiktok because it feelsnlike many artists nowadays make songs thinking on how they will be used for tendy edits? I see this on we can't be friends, which is a song I actually enjoy but it clearly just throws that tecno track because it will be wildly used to edit videos - and it was. Same thing can be said about songs like... Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter? And do not get me wrong that song is catchy and I like it but it also doesn't have that sort of emotion release on chorus or anywhere else but rather smart beats that can be used for edits on tiktok 🤷♀️)
THE THUMBNAILL OMG 😂
supernatural is a fucking bop and I will die on that hill
I love fantano backshots
So, this is as good as MBDTF?
The two tracks off it that she performed on SNL have def grown on me, but that might be the brilliance of how those performances were put together, as a whole. I love “Imperfect for You” - it some how feels light and still has some weight. The vocal choices, with the minor additions are very interesting and make the song a stand out, to me. I think for Ariana in general, this one is refreshingly different. I’m not blown away by this album, but I don’t think this project was ever meant to be a huge, impressive moment in her catalogue.
Think about it: She’s been filming what will be a huge movie event, other projects outside of music, etc. she’s been busy doing other things- this album was like a gift to her fans, knowing they’ve been salivating for something new. This was like “Okay here’s a snack, to hold you over”
I like the thumbnail trend of posing the same as the album cover (review ice spice's like..?)
Imo the line "hope you feel alright when you're in her" was way more painful than funny, anyone who has been cheated on/left for someone else can attest to that I'm sure

Respect on these opinions as always but I wish you’d touched a bit more on how it’s truly a concept album for the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and how it intertwines with those themes of cyclical relationships and their systematic erasure. That context made listening to this album so much richer for me and I think reviewing it from that angle could bump it up at least a point or two

I often agree with your reviews but I feel the opposite of you. We cant be friends, bye, dont want to break up again, true story, the boy is mine, supernatural were all instant highlights for me. I liked each song better than the last. Lyrically, shes not Emily Dickinson here but showcasing some of the inconsistency in emotional trauma one goes through during a breakup and what happens next. There arent many flat notes other than what feels like low energy towards the end- but i forgive it because Imperfect For You and I Wish I Hated You are gorgeous tracks. I wouldnt give the album a 10/10, i think it fits squarely into an 8. Its got hooks. Hits. Its sonically cohesive. This is all to say im not an Ariana stan. Ive only ever truly enjoyed Thank U Next and most of her other albums were duds. (Minus Dangerous Woman which was just a hit factory). TL;DW version: 6:12
I feel like the criticisms saying Fantano focused too much on Ariana's personal life are kinda unfair.
Firstly, the album is incredibly personal (her grandmother is featured on one of the songs!) and is focused entirely on her personal/love life, obviously that has to factor into the experience. People have no issue praising albums for their lyrical/personal content when it's good, insightful or reflective. In fact often when reviewing albums, we have no problem citing the surrounding context as strengthening the message. It follows, that if lyrics and narrative are grounds for praise, they can also be grounds for criticism.
Obviously, narrative and context isn't the only thing that matters, and albums are rarely called good simply due to that. But note, Fantano isn't actually calling the album bad. He gave it a 6. That's a positive review. And in my opinion as someone who doesn't care about the drama, a fair one. And he definitely discusses production in the review as well.
Well this is the first time we’ve seen him have his back turned on a thumbnail 😂
I don't think the album really has much to do about Ethan (besides the boy is mine, and maybe yes and). To me its more much more about her understanding and coming to terms with her previous relationships. The 'Saturn Returning' thing is what she sees as her sign to start to understand things like she doesn't have to hate all of her exes, she doesn't have to forget about their memories, etc.
Anthony give an unbiased review challenge
usually his reviews are actually about the music
He always does as long as it’s not a Kanye album
How would he even be able to give an unbiased review? He's only ever given his opinions
feels pretty hard to discuss this album without mentioning the stuff behind it. context matters with this type of thing

I think you’re being a little too harsh on the narrative tbh. There’s definitely some toxicity and corny lyrics, but the core of it is about leaving someone behind who you really care about. She’s a public abuse victim with a lot of trauma and a lot of this seems to just be how she’s processing it. “I Wish I Hated You” and “Imperfect For You” are probably my favorite tracks of hers I’ve heard. And none of this is to say that she shouldn’t be criticized for how she handled the situation and both probably cheating and endorsing him cheating. She absolutely did bad things and she’s defending them here, and that’s a knock on it. But this felt fresher and more personal than anything else I’ve heard from her.
