- Early ECO gameplay introduces the Barter System, but how to get the most money of it? How to transition to Global Currency? The Barter System pricing guide is about your own relative prices for what you are buying and selling. How to make the most money is about buying, not selling, and this is particularly true with the Barter System in the ECO game. What is the best in the ECO game doesn't always follow what is best in other game, and can be counter intuitive, and the ECO gameplay open sandbox encourages unique approaches to economics, and discovering the best trade strategies. This video looks at the barter system before global currency and how to get the most out of this early ECO gameplay and transition to global currency in the ECO game.
We are also giving away (giveaway) an ECO game package during the month of May 2021. To be eligible to win, type the keyword "Ecology" somewhere in the a comment to the video to be eligible to win. The drawing will happen at the end of May and the winner announced in a subsequent video.

Greats *The cheap food exchange*
Glad to have you on DadSpeed!! ...and even more glad you're a fan!!! =)
I would like add my recommendation that, during the barter phase, you even buy things you don't even need that lots of other people do. I got almost the entire main square in town paved with stone roads just from buying all types of hewn logs that I didn't even want then trading them to the engineers for stone roads. By buying something I didn't want that was easy for every player to make and sell me regardless of their specialization, I was able to sell a lot more goods which freed up inventory for me to keep grinding out skills which let me get a jump on selling Basic Upgrade 2s and fireplaces.
Sounds like a great use of the Barter time on the server! :)
Another good video! I think having a barter system is awesome but it makes it tough when I have to trade through 3 people to get sand. When global currency came I was able to get sand directly from Player A with zero hassle. So I prefer the global currency as it helps make things a little easier in getting what I need.
Also wanted to say thank you for introducing me to a FANTASTIC community! Everyone is friendly and awesome, I love it!
I'll put this here so maybe I can bring a friend on to the game as well or maybe convince the spouse haha Ecology!
I love to see couples gaming together - it's a really great bonding experience - so good luck!!
Ecology.
Imho the most up-to-date and informative videos, love them all! Great job!
What a nice thing to hear!! Much appreciated!
I like bartering but not with personal currencies. I much prefer the personal interaction of discussing prices directly. The main issue with global currencies is getting the currency of other players who often have a very small selection of goods they wish to buy from you, leaving you unable to acquire their currency.
I hear you! Even with global currency, "buying" is so important to the health of the economy. Even if you are a mason and can go out and mine your own rocks, it's better to try to buy the rocks if you can - true, your profits won't be as high, but a healthy server economic flow provides a lot more enjoyment in the long run than short-term individual gain. You're very spot on!
Nice video! Im new to servers on eco / ecology so it was very informative
Glad you enjoyed @Dr Taco, and good to see you in Season 5...hope it is going well for you!
i kinda miss the barter already, it was easy to get EVERYTHING delivered to me.
Exactly!! lol
Always love these videos. I have learned a lot. Ecology!
Really nice to hear you're enjoying the content Adam!
Ecology! Been watching since the Mint video, love the slides you include in your videos to illustrate concepts!
Thanks @tigermobile1234!! Nice to hear you've been following along, and I wish you luck on the game package! =)
I just got this game and it sounds like your server would be really fun to learn in! Ecology
Good Luck to you @Zachary Francis!
Ecology, love the vids!
Glad you're enjoying, and best of luck on the giveaway! =)
Global currency is convenient but also has a competitive nature about it. For example what is stopping a rich player buying up all the resources causing supply issues and prices going up due to demand.
They can - nothing stopping that - it’s part of the open nature of the game. Eventually, those kinds of things always sort themselves out. I prefer to actually work with those kinds of things and turn them into something fun on the server! :)
@@Oearth I saw some guy banned for buying ironbars and reselling lower to try and force lower prices . He was industrial/miner . I guess the admin doesn’t like player’s market manipulation .
Yeah trying to create a fake economy by authoritarian control doesnt make sense.
The barter system is essential to the global ecology. The more you buy, the more you increase the economy - to a limit. For example, the stimulus funds people were receiving during the pandemic.
Ecology. Great and informative videos! 😄
Really glad to hear you are enjoying! ...and good luck!!
I like the barter system a lot more then the global currency. Like you said, you involve more players that way and it's not about how much money you can get. Sadly on every server I've played and hosted it's always been about the money and not about the game as much
Well said Crazy Pete!
Ecology. Keep up the great work. Love your videos. :)
So glad to hear you are enjoying Cpt. Carot - and good luck!
Ecology seems like a great game! I’ve yet to play, but I’m enjoying your videos!
Glad you're enjoying!! You might be playing soon yourself with a little luck on the drawing! :)
I would love to play this game. Nice video btw.. Ecology :)
Thank you! ...and good luck on the drawing!! =)
thanks for super video
You're very welcome - glad you liked!! =)
I have never played Ecology so I don't know if I'm right about this, but I would think that a server with the barter system only would create a kind of banker class of player who run exchanges for trading different currencies. There could be a market for currency that could be an additional layer of complexity and trade that brings a whole new dimension to the economy.
The game is so open to creativity I’m sure a player could do that.
Ecology is fairly important in Eco :D
Ecology entry acknowledged! ...and yes, even though the full extent of ecological impact hasn't been implemented into the game yet, we have had some tussles with pollution!
Nice, ecology :)
Good luck on the drawing!! :D
I love the barter system it's much easier to make deals.though I play on a global currency with stimulus to new players, I still try and use my coin when I can.
I can be used later as well - so many ways to approach the game and set up economies...probably one of the reasons the game is so good!!
Ecology is very important
Indeed!!
Changes are in a large server that does barter only, you'd eventually settle on some key item being the underlying asset connecting a lot of the key suppliers, most likely land claims. Eventually people would want to settle with that scarce, easily transportable good for big enough transactions and so on. A lot of other items tend to get devalued over time, perhaps save for animal carcasses that are roughly constant throught most servers. So in the end all trade would be de-facto denominated in land claims and bisons.
I admit I don’t really get what your saying. Not sure how it ties into encouraging buying at your store to encourage trade during the barter period until the global currency comes in like talked about in the video...maybe you can explain better?
@@Oearth It was mostly a reply to your idea of barter-only server. Chances are if you didn't have a global currency people would end up resorting to some key items, like Land Claim Papers, being the connective tissue between a lot of the stores. People like going down the path of least resistance, and Land Claim Papers are just that.
@ThePiachu Ah! I see. I agree that Global Currency almost certainly wins out in the long run - it would probably be really hard to freely trade over the long term with Barter. What's interesting with what you mentioned on the Land Claim papers idea is that I've seen a couple players do that - trade land claim papers for Skid Steers or other things. Thanks for clarifying!! :)
Buy, buy, buy. And don't forget the toilet paper, because you never know when you might get the runs. Or rather, when there might be a run on TP. Either way....
There is a Paper Milling profession as well, though TP isn't a craft-able item yet...the devs should work on that!
Glad to see my shop by the goldmine lol
:)
Is there any chance you guys still have servers running? I just started playing and love the experiences you guys provide for your population.
Server is still running! There's even been a recent little new surge of players to the server. You are very welcomed to join!
ECOLOGY!!!! want a copy for my friend so he can play with us on this long term server
Good Luck to you then!!
That was some sad burnt toast :(
Very sad indeed. ;-) ...and good luck on the drawing!
I hope I'm lucky :D
Ecology
Best of luck to you!
I don’t have this game but it looks interesting.
Edit: Ecology 😜👍
Edit Acknowledged!! :D
I ended up monopolizing on every resource by trading for bricks cause I rushed pottery, probably not great for economy though

Received MrWolf!
Got late but still enyoed
I think CZcams hiccupped on some notifications!
No I meant that: I forgot about the video and wachet it only after 2 days.

Ecology ;)
Good luck on the drawing!
Is is eco for ecology or economic?
Originally it stood for Ecology given how it all started out, but through it's development it has created such a strong Economic component, I believe it could stand for both at this point! :D If I had to pick one though, it's probably Ecology.
So what you do if there is no demand at all for anything you can craft, and no one want to even sell stuff you need to craft or any of the food that is listed on your shop, and now you're out of ways to even get food to work? Like on dadspeed season 10 right now.
The Barter period is difficult, particularly in the early phases of small canoe transport. Many times direct purchases aren't possible, so folks chain together a series of barters. For example, yesterday I went to the jungle to cut logs, because I had no trees in my area, carried the logs via canoe to a logger who bought the logs and made charcoal. I bought the charcoal, and went again via canoe to another continent where I could sell the charcoal to buy the 2 research papers I wanted. It took some planning and time, but I got what I needed in the end. If your completely out of food, usually someone will be kind enough to give you enough to get you on your feet - I saw someone do that today. They gave them some charred tomatoes and a few raw veggies to take home and cook, along with a few seeds they could plant as a small garden on their property for subsistence living. Also, it's very common in ECO, particularly on a long term server, to go a few days without selling anything, but things come around eventually, and sometimes it a matter of convenience getting to a location, or what I see most of the time, a store is not buying enough variety of things so customers can buy your things. Buying is 4x as important as what your selling in Barter...you have to buy a variety of things across several skills in the barter phase to be able to trade with the widest number of people.
if you need a persons credits to buy from a person there is a kind of egg/hen problem. there has to be a starting point how can you buy goods from other people if you do not have their currency? Can you buy by giving them your infinite currency? can they buy buy giving you their infinite currency? How is the value of each currency established? Ecology
It’s much easier than all that like shown in the video. You buy their products at your store, which gives them your credits, which they can use to buy your products. The only problem is was pointing out in the video is that people want to sell their goods, but are buy much of anything to allow other people the opportunity to get their credits. The value of barter currency isn’t relevant during the barter period - it’s all about how what you personally price what your selling versus what your buying. True currency value comes into play more with the Global Currency (which o have a video about), and how to value goods is what I eluded to into the videos intro - so stay tuned for that one!! All good questions! Once you win that giveaway and start playing it probably all makes a lot more sense. :)
Bartering is fun for 2 min then ya realize not everyone want everything from everyone hehe. Ecology
tbh, most people on servers dont stick around. plus some people dont buy anything or sell anything useful for their credits. so i dont even bother with credit only stores and sometimes immediately leave a server when i dont see a global currency.
All depends...that’s why our server ran almost 6 months and was still going strong. Most servers die because people make it competitive and not collaborative - all depends on the server and it’s players mentality.
@@Oearth Would love to join your server some day
Just wondering how the money producer put the currency out in public.
Without being the rich type a person
@SNAKEZ GAMEZ Great Question! I think you're talking about the Global currency and not the personal currency owned by each individual for barter? I have a video on exactly your question if you want to view it (link below). =) For the Global Currency it is produced by a "mint", and the exact method of distribution is also something that is up to the creativity and preference of the government, an elected treasurer, or individual - all depends how the server's citizen want things to run. FOr the Personal Currency, it is distributed by buying things at your store...which I guess is the main theme of this Barter video. czcams.com/video/2ukf_xSmEHE/video.html
@@Oearth I saw the vidoe before this. Wouldn't say i got the answer i wanted, tho I'll wahtch it again to be sure.
Ecology, youtube is being annoying so im late because i don't get notifications :(((
Never late Goddess!! =)
Ecology xd
to me barter is better, because there is always the risk that multiple global currencies may try to vie for dominance, if that happens it will drive a server to extinction even faster since no one will know which money to use... at least with bartering it helps keep everyone on a more equal footing.....
Both have their advantages, and the openness of the game makes so many things possible, including the multiple currencies. There’s so many ways to play out the economy in ECO, like that unexpected exploit I talked about in the 5 month video - totally turned into something positive! You just never know! So don’t count out the multiple currency thing...in the right hands!! :)
ecology ecology ecology ecology ecology ecology ecology ecology ecology ecology ecology . MY MAN IS not messing around he is 5head AS HELL MY gye. I
LOL! Glad you're enjoying!! ...and I think someone would like to maybe win this drawing...hmmm...
@@Oearth lmao
too competitive to have a limiting credit. by having a global currency you allow all players to help eachother. allowing someone to go to someone elses store than yours is also a sense of freedom for the buyer and he would be more motivated to buy from you.
another way of a bartering system is placing shops that buys things that doesn't exist in the same biome that the shop is present in, and that was my thought when i saw this title. this videos title was misleading to me and imo think it should have been about "benefits of player specific credits". just my opinion
you being the most popular currency in cirkulation basically means you created a global currency as well, its just in your name and you have infinite amount of the currency so thats another downside. some people fail to see this very often and starts trying to put out their own credit in circulation screwing everything up.
