      You can derestrict these (just YT derestricted Creo). Battery life and range will take a nose-dive though. I'm sure Specialized will catch on at some point.

    Just got one of these in the States. This thing is fast as fuck. People think E-bikes are just for old guys. They're not. I'm a former racer and I go faster solo than in a pack. I'm averaging fucking 26mph on the flats. It's so much fun.

    For the money you'd prefer more power? I think the cost is due to the quality and material used in its construction and the components used. The power is perfect for the great majority of people and most program it for a lot less than its maximum, for good reason(s).

    The motor on my wife's bike shit itself at 8k/2.5 years and the dealer said that was a good life??? $800 replacement and to replace the battery was another $1,000. Also something people don't figure on is a mid motor puts that extra power strain on chain and sprockets. Initially good, very expensive eventually.
    Just a question; Do you notice the power drop off when you ride past the speed limiter?

      Yao Hong: The U.S. version assists to 45 km/h (28 mph). The battery lasts because there's no throttle, the motor is 25% more efficient than other bicycle motors, and it's all programable as a percent of assist wanted.

    I remember getting the KOM up Norton summit under 10 minutes and I think 35km/h. Just on my dads cheap e-Bike 250w with downhill mountain bike tires which were flat, its 30kg and its only like 20Nm of Torque. We just chipped it to take the 25km/h limiter out of it. The ride got flagged straight away. He sold that bike and we are now onto a much more powerful and lighter bike, im sure I could hold 45km/h up norton with little effort.

      @@durianriders The motor brand on the 2 bikes i talked about in previous comment is call BionX, they are no longer a company, they chew the battery and the power comes in un-naturally. Ive used bafung and tested shimano, Bosch and specialized motors.
      The motors in the Specialized bikes is by far the best, they feel like you are still riding a bike and the power matches well to what you put in. And on turbo you get plenty of torque up the hills also yea the battery life is a huge 1, also no big electronic controller up front is the best way to go. Im mostly taking on the mountain bike side, never tester the road versions though. Specialized now have a few motors across their line of bikes and the lighter motors put out less power, but I think why save weight, just get the more powerful motor then gradually reduce wait later down the track with components

    • @minethegap
      @minethegap Před 3 lety

      @kurtis I disagree with your assessment of the Bionx. I have been riding the D500 motor on a surly ogre frame since 2016 around Perth, WA. Same 48v battery. 10,000km. The torque sensor is superb coupled with the brushless hub motor so it’s completely silent. Bionx went out of business because they were over engineered and built in Canada which obviously wasn’t economical plus the investors were ailing old millionaires who lost interest.

    • @KurtisPape
      @KurtisPape Před 3 lety

      @@minethegap Hey, I wasnt talking bad about it. We have had a e-eagle 250w and now a OHM mountain that we imported from Canada to Australia 500w which is not allowed. Took months and months to get because we knew its 1 of the smoothest motors around. But yes in some ways I like the torque sensor, you can put out less RPM and the motor assists you heaps, but I always find im in the hardest gear to get that torque sensor working, the bike feels more like a an 'electric bike' rather than an assisted bike. Durianrider would probably love it for motor pacing because it boosts up steady climbs and is completely silent. Where it lacks big time is slow steep hills, just doesn't have enough torque in my opinion. Trust me I have so much fun on the Bionx, when it comes to long rides it also suffers, especially in full power the battery doesn't last long and takes a really long time to recharge.
      I love the specialized motor, lots of torque, battery is solid, quiet enough and feels very much like a normal bike just assisted.

    These are the future. Such a misunderstood category.
    If I was feeling fatigued I’d reach for it instead of having a day off =more saddle time and fitness.
    Further refinement and a drop in prices will come. A power meter is a must to ensure an equivalent workout to a non ebike. A detachable battery ideally.
    I’d detrestrict to a 30-32 kph with an after market device.

      It's cheating if you use an ebike to beat a rider in a comp who is on a normal bike and don't disclose that.
      Your comment misses a LOT of context 😂.
      Ebikes ARE the future and I'm stoked about that. Means more bikes to race up climbs. If you ain't motor pacing you will NEVER be your fittest.

      15% grades typically are slower speeds so to maintain optium cadence of around 90RPM you need better gear ratios. For me the 46/30 absolute black rings with a 30 or 40 up back is great for pretty much anything out there.
