    Knee replacement next month after MX Injury 30 yrs ago. Like you i am essentially a MTB XC Racer and have won some years ago, but also love the road too. now At 58yrs depending on how it goes, this may be what i will need to get in the future..
    Thanks for the review Dave, i don’t feel like it is all doom and no riding, gloom any more, in fact i have been looking forward now, may treat myself later on. Cheers 🚵🏼🚴🏼👏👏👍👍

    Great video thank you. How many Nm is this motor? Is it enough for steep hills? Also for this amount of money you would think that they should have integrated cables at least....

    On my Creo SL I've been getting around 2.75 to 3% battery per mile on Sport mode (middle between Turbo and Eco) in mildly hilly terrain with bike, water bottles and me weighing around 235 lbs. total. Without the Range Extender that totals to around 30ish miles if I keep it on Sport.
    I can tweak it to Eco on the flats and downhill allowing me to get to 43-48 miles. The Range Extender allows me to use Sport to 48-50 miles or so (and the battery starts at 150%), still using around 3% of the battery per mile.
    I haven't, yet, experimented with the Mission Control other than setting the use of the battery at each mode (so, for Eco, it will use 35% of maximum power, or around 83 watts. For Sport it will vary from 60-100%. At Turbo it's always 100% assist or 240 watts of motor mechanical power).

      I'm 100lbs lighter than you and I just bought the 2023 Creo SL for road. I'm thinking that I will get some really good battery range and can't wait to try it but it's still Winter here in Canada and lots of snow and salts still on the roads!

      @@cyclingonplants7444 I wrote that more than 2 years ago and, since then, I've been able to tweak it all (not to mention the numerous software updates which serve to economize the use of power, among other things) so that I use 1-1/2 % per mile of battery when using the Battery Extender and 2 to 2.15% per mile with one battery, having no problem getting 65 miles range with elevations typically around 1600-2000 feet over that distance with 2 batteries.
      I try never to go below 5% of battery remaining though the software protects low battery level issues.

    There's not "very little" drag in the motor when it's turned off, as the video stated, there's NO drag, including none when you may stop peddling, as when going down hill. By the way, I have the Class 3 version as I'm in the U.S. 28 mph or 45 kph is the cut-off point...perfect! :)

      Based on your experience with the 45 km per hour class 3 version, do you think it's a much improved experience over a 32 km per hour cutoff? 32 km per hour restriction in Canada is reasonable, but still way below the 45.

      @@harrybakker8200 I think that 32 km/hour is FAR more reasonable and realistic for assist than the European limits which, in my opinion, limits the assisted e-bike to a hill and wind assist for many (granted, there are those who never ride that fast anyway). 32 km will operate in a majority of situations for most cyclists.
      But, comparing 32 km to 45 km, I prefer the 45 km maximum as I find myself riding 21-24 mph often and therefore it's very relevant to my situation.

      @@lazurm Agree. 32 is a decent speed, and since the Creo has NO drag, you often can barely feel when the engine cuts out. It has some benefits too, because when the engine cuts out you save battery, you get some exercise, and the shifting is easier. Since I love speed though, I would prefer the bike assists me up till about 40 kph, so I can have a higher average speed.

      I just purchased a 2021 Creo Comp Carbon, and there definitely is some motor drag when pedaling without battery power. Ever ride with tires at maybe half pressure? That’s how it feels.

      @@Combat556 If you are pedaling while the power assist is at zero then you are feeling the drag of the tires and added weight, not the motor. I'm assuming that you know what it feels like to pedal a regular "acoustic" bicycle.

      No, DI2 has its own battery that needs to be charged every 1-2 months...

    It’s definitely cool packaging tech; but I don’t get it. Now, I own a turbo Levo and Venge... the problem with an e-road bike is top speed. If it’s set to 25 mph/kph, it’s just too low. It’s not hard to reach this by pedaling. So if you’re thinking of getting one of these to keep up with your friends on normal bikes, you won’t be able to.

      Depends on where you live. It may be 25 kph in Europe, but it tops out at 28 mph in the United States. That is almost twice as fast.

      Worth taking into account the speed limit and power assistance on climbs - there are many climbs where the top speed limit won't be an issue!

      Fluterra: I got mine in the United States where the top assisted speed is 28 mph or 45 kph. Technically you may be able to get the European one and firmware yourself out of the limitations (illegal but who's going to tell?).

      if you can ride uphill at 28mph you will beat all TdF pros. My understanding is that it matches the power you are producing with a 250 W limit at the highest setting, so if you generate 220 watts, you will be matching the strongest rider in the world who can hold 440 w for sometime.

    RE you question.."Who are they for?" - you left out the older cyclists with medical conditions that want to stay ridin. This bike is perfect. we cn ride along the flats and get assistance on the hills enabling us to ride in the groups we are used to.

    Some comments of “Ohh you can buy a car or a motorcycle for that price. And the point is what , you can buy a house for 100k or 100 million. Still a house, would you say “Oohhh nice car to a guy with a Lamborghini Aventador”. Or FFS did you know you could by 50 cars or a nice house for that price. Half the time I think it’s the green face 🤢 of pure envy because someone can’t afford it. Some people drink every night and spend hundreds a month getting pissed up. That’s their choice. Anyone who spends 8 , 9 , 10k on a bike is their choice because it’s their cash.. 🤷‍♂️

      As fast as you want! e-bikes are restricted to 25kph by law, but you can easily exceed that on this bike because it's light enough and the motor decouples at higher speeds

      Plama20: I realized that you're joking but, on the other hand, you don't understand how this bike's e-assist works. You put out the same wattage on this bicycle, but you go faster because the bike will match your effort. That means that, when you put out less energy, so will the e-bike. You can still train but you'll be going a further distance.

      @@HarveyLMiller21 Thanks Harvey for seeing the humour. Is there a new category on Strava yet for these? I already compete with a local POSTIE who keeps cleaning up all the KOMS in the area, next will be the e-assist road bikes and they will be harder to spot because they are not visiting every house in the street.
      Humour aside I have a good friend who came back from near death using an e-mtb to get back into our ride group. Then as fitness improved again he sold off the e-mtb for a regular mtb, then went road training again and now has qualified 2 years in a row for the Worlds Gran Fondo. He is 72yrs and drops us on every climb. So I can see the merit in e-bikes for getting people into the sport who might not otherwise, its a great equaliser for the not so fit to go further and be IN the bunch, which is self fulfilling as they feel included and so will ride more. In MTB world this makes sense as there is a real risk of blowing up in the bush with a long way to push out of the bush. Havent found as compelling an argument for the e-road version as yet. give it time though and I'll be old enough to want one. cheers

      @@Plasmo20 From what I've read, Strava will post the ride as an e-bike ride if the data comes from the e-bike itself (ie., Specialized SL, and others).
      There's not only a market, now, for these bikes but the market is booming. It will trickle into the "serious" riders for any number of reasons, from riding with the higher groups to riding when otherwise one couldn't (or couldn't do the speed, distance), and a host of other reasons as you've observed.

      Firsthgyhgyhuy Lastujhujhuj or you can’t afford it! Owning bikes with both mech and electric shifting, electric is the way to go. Not cheap though. Why buy an ebike without it? Stupid.

      @@mozzjones6943 The main issue with mechanical gears is the frequent adjustment the cable tension requires. It's a massive pain. And you certainly can quickly dump gears, at least with SRAM AXS. But that is not good for your chain or gears, regardless of whether it's electronic or cable operated.

    At the point a motor is assisting and I'm not riding around a city I'm buy a motorcycle, which this costs as much as. I understand experience performance bicycles, I've been an avid cyclists my whole life, but this is neither fish nor fowl.

      thepassionofthegoose Shit loads of bureaucracy of owning a motorcycle, at least in Europe. All sorts of taxes, cost of fuel is ridiculous (not at this moment), license plates, storage through winter season. For my commute E-bike is no brainer, and at 40 I’m in a different shape than years ago.

    I guess I don't understand the point of this bike. Why not just spend 20k on an actual motorcycle.. Or better yet 8500 on a great road bike then 12k on a motorcycle. Maybe I'm just missing something lol.

      It's definitely not a motorbike! It's designed to give you a bit of assistance, to help you out when you want or need it, it doesn't do all the pedalling for you, you still have to do that! ;)

      @AG Coarseman Or, if you're really lucky (like myself) you find the FIRST "used" Creo Sl in the world that is actually perfectly sized, $5,500, and used only once for 24 miles (wrong size for the wealthy previous owner). I was planning to get one in the Spring but at that price I really couldn't wait. Now, my wife wants one and at the XS size, it'll be full price. :(
      [EDIT: The local bicycle store took $750 off the list price for my wife's order!]

    Never ever buy a specialized e-bike. I bougth a Specialized Turbo S, I think in 2015, so it's not that old. Now the the rear drive has a mechanical problem. Reply from the dealer; it's an old bike and most likely there are no more spare parts. Unlikely that it can be repaired. WHAT, this was a 5000 Euro bike. And now it's ready for the scrap yard ?? First of all not very sustainable and very envirionmental unfriendly. If this turns out unrepairable than never ever a specialized again. I also own a Specialized Epic, one of the first carbon fiber bikes. Drive it already for 25 years.
