It’s so upsetting :(
Oh wow I totally missed the part where they said it was based off of a true story...!!! Now I feel more crappier than b4...!!! 😟🥺😫😢😭💔
It's terribly heartbreaking real sometimes I think of a child who may be facing human trafficking and just say a prayer for them in my heart. I don't think it can heart to remember the forgotten and lost.
Millions of them, it's called Christianity.
the fact that the girl got off the hook for testifying is sickening
Honestly I always thought so too, you can say a lot, that you were abused as well or gaslit but she can't ever say that she didn't partake in the abuse of another and maybe even felt good about it like when she threw over the bucket. She's carries just as much guilt when she could have ended things earlier and not handled k as bad as her husband did and make everything worse. I hope she sought help nontheless
the thing is, women always get more lenient sentences, but the also gave her less because she freed that other girl and testified...

@Bruhh I had great parents but if you saw the movie , you would know what her parents told her
@Bruhh it’s because they worry which is understandable. People are crazy and are always up to no good, I’m a 19 year old female and can’t even imagine having a child out and about right now and not knowing if they’re okay or not (my parents also checked on my brother a lot, sadly we lost him 2 years ago though) but yea, I’d be paranoid too if I was a parent
Just the fact that there are nasty weirdos out there who would actually do this shit to somebody is crazy. People wanna blame everything on a devil but fail to realize they are their own devils trapped in their own personal hells.
Watching Tom Holland shoot his would be tormenters in The Devil All The Time was extremelly satisfying.
They were a couple that picked up hitchhikers and played out their sick fantasies before killing them as well.

I remember the case they're drawing from. It's fucking insane for cruel people can be. I can accept that the wife was a victim as well, but that doesn't excuse her part in this. She should've gone to prison for the rest of her life as well as her husband.
There is only 1 reason I can see that this is not the way we work the system. We have to let the women who free the captives go scott free, or there will never be a woman who frees another captive. They'll know they will be punished for "finally doing a good deed", so they just won't do it. It seems like its already hard enough to get these shitsticks to do it to begin with, start punishing them for it and you'll never find another captive until they tear down the house and find her bones.
I agree, woman got a deal and she got away with kidnapping, rape, captivity and murder.

crazy part is that the wife was really the one in charge, but got off because she testified that she was a victim too. The police had tapes full of video of her torturing women, but because she said she was a victim, they gave her immunity. Insane
She wasn’t really in charge, just complicit and devoid of all empathy. Cameron did demand sex from both women each on alternating nights which Janice obviously hated because she was jealous but complied with anyway. But she was very covertly manipulative as a result of that dynamic and in the end it unfortunately paid off for her
Female
There was a lot more to it than that.
Art imitates life
Janice should have done time because she only let that girl go once she overheard her husband would replace her soon.
She was not remorseful, she just wanted him to herself.
If she could not have him, no one else can when he ends up in prison.
Vile couple.
What I find most Unforgivable about this Crime is the WIFE who added in the TORTURE of this woman and Manipulation for her husbands pleasure gets NO CHARGES... Not even a fine for turning a grown woman into a Slave, and STEALING her daughter.
I read this story and it was literally unbelievable, how sick people can be, I honestly hoped it wasn't real. It's disgusting... I see they glossed over the couples behaviour. They certainly didn't limit themselves to only beatings, rape and deprivation was common.

Seven fucking years. That's crazy.
What happened to Janice was that she was Cameron’s first submissive victim and instead of using only her, he suggested kidnapping another girl and use her as a submissive slave. First one ended in death but the second which was Coleen lasted longer. I’m sorry for Janice but in my personal opinion she is just as guilty as her sick husband. Can’t imagine what life must be like for her child knowing what her parents did.
Stories like this always upset me when I hear about flooding and hurricanes. That some poor soul is trapped and can’t get out.
I’m all too familiar with this story because I first learned about it as a teenager on the Internet quite by accident and then seeing crime documentaries about this it’s amazing!
That wife should have served prison time as well I don't care if she was afraid of her husband when you do sick evil crap together you should go down together I have no pitty for her at all
The faith saved her but it trapped her also. Without that, she could figure out that "the company" don´t exist and mainly, he manipulated both of them THROUGH that faith. Slaves, wives, "obey your husband", everything.

Why in the world would you hitchhike and then tell the people giving you a ride that nobody is expecting you?
At the time of this kidnapping, hitchhiking was a very normal way to get around. Colleen had hitchhiked before without a problem, so she was confident in her judgement of people. Back then no one knew that women could become accomplices to the torture, rape, and murder of other women, so when Colleen saw a young couple offer her a ride, she thought she would be safe.

I was almost IN a similar situation a decade ago but escaped. I was too frightened to go to the police.
As if this couldn’t get more terrifying, there’s a story about the first girl they kidnapped and killed. She went missing and a few months later a woman and her daughter moved into her apartment. The mom started having dreams about her/the day she was kidnapped, her daughter even had an imaginary friend with her nickname. They never knew she lived there or her name prior to that. She had dreams about numbers that seemed like coordinates and the police even searched those areas for her body because she knew things that no one else should have known (other than the perpetrator(s))
