Low carb diet reversed the deterioration of my vision. 5 years ago I failed DMV eye exam and was required to drive with glasses. Last year, after having been on low carb for only 4 months, I was able to pass the DMV test!

It's so refreshing to see the younger doctors supporting nutrition to treat some of these conditions. After a cataract surgery brought on by an emergency eye surgery 4 years ago, I was cautioned that my other eye would probably be needing cataract surgery in the near future. I have been on LCHF/Keto for about 2-1/2 years and got a clean bill of health from my ophthalmologist last week. Not only have I not needed glasses for driving (50+years of needing them) since my cataract surgery but I am off all meds including blood pressure, cholesterol, and acid reflux.
The message that these open-minded physicians are bringing really needs to be heard. Thanks to all, including this channel.

Not sure of the connection, but since I’ve lost 120 pounds through LC/Keto, I no longer need to use my glasses, not for the last 6 months, as a matter of reference. I do benefit by using them for longer distances, like when I’m driving. But for day to day or working as a classroom teacher, I no longer wear them, and my eye doctor has confirmed that my prescription has indeed changed since last year. 👓 🥑 🍳

I liked Dr. Lorenzo's excitement and I loved her Mexican English. I had my opththalmologist do a retinal scan in her office and she said that since I started doing marathons about 5 yrs ago, my retinas improved and that was even before I got onto keto 2 years ago. Even just running lowered my sugars and HT. Now I am on keto, my eye exams are always good.

As an 8 year type 2 diabetic who now regularly achieves a hba1c of 5.6, I can say from experience natural carbohydrates, the type you buy at a farmer's market, are not a problem. The problem comes from processed foods, you get at supermarkets, masquerading as natural foods, examples, all sugars, white rice, white floor, sausage made with cereals, breakfast cereals, anything in a container, is a processed food. So easy to self correct, no denying yourself delicious foods. Also avoid seed oils, a 100% processed food notwithstanding the marketing effort to pretend it is vegetable oil. Natural saturated fats are healthy contrary to health misrepresentations.

Its very difficult to be your own advocate. My diabetic husband was recommended to see a dietitian. he followed her advice and his blood sugar skyrocketed! He found low carb with Dr Brett, Dr Fung and Dr Berry. In 2 weeks, he was off injectables. Its still a work in progress, but he hasn't found a doctor that knows about getting off diabetic medication. Soooo frustrating

Isn't "diabetic medication" called insulin? Insulin should be matched to blood glucose, usually using a meter and drop of blood though now there are continuous meters, too. What am I missing?

cynthia ,The reason you’re frustrated it’s because you like the rest of us have been taught that the doctor should be able to fix the problem. But we fix our own problems and on top of that the doctor gets paid and his lifestyle is supported by sick people coming into his office not by well people leaving and never coming back.

That any endocrinologist could consider walks in the park, to be excessive exercise, is beyond comprehension. Essentially, he was advocating, "sit in a chair and wait for your blindness and amputations and dementia and death - while we charge a fortune for prescribing the meds which will make the whole process longer and even more agonizing".

Especially since Drs are the authority. I got put on a med that I didn't not react well to. I shared this with the Dr and was basically po-pooed. It caused a rebound high blood pressure (a diruetic) that I was hospitalized with. It's still "all my own fault".. I'm now doing carnivore. My swelling is gone, my blood pressure is dropping... I'm sure they (different dr.) will be further reducing my meds. I'm sure my cholesterol will not be what they want, but I will not take a statin.

My son's conception is not an accident. We prepared ourselves - our minds, lifestyle, and bodies - for at least 2 years before conceiving him. We were polarised towards a low-carb diet and took in more iodine-rich food, nuts and seeds, fruits, eggs, and chicken. We avoided sugar drinks and canned/packaged food most of the time and only cooked with cold-pressed coconut and extra virgin olive oil and Himalayan/Celtic salt. We also did intermittent fasting.
Unfortunately, my wife was tested for gestational diabetes while in her second trimester, as my in-laws came over to stay in our house for some time, and we had to re-introduce a lot of carbs and other unhealthy items into our diet to accommodate their lifestyle, which in the process influenced her diet also. Her Ob-Gyn immediately put her on a diet management program conducted by the hospital's dieticians.
However, I deferred it by 2 weeks and implemented my own program that works with the endocrine system, and is not allopathy-based. My wife immediately started to go on a mix of LCHF and keto diets with walking and yoga/stretching/mindful meditation. When she started the hospital's program 2 weeks later, she was found not to have gestational diabetes. The dietician was surprised.
The endocrinologist attached to the program still went on to prescribe costly diabetic medications during the program, which we returned promptly. Of course, during the program, the endocrinologist doctor kept telling my wife that she was eating too few carbs after each diet-log submission although my wife was showing excellent results. The best part is that the endocrinologist was complaining to my wife's Ob-Gyn that my wife was not following the program's protocol in eating a balanced diet comprising of the standard food pyramid and had refused medication. My wife ignored her and her Ob-Gyn found no evidence that my wife needed medication.
When the program was over, the dietician used my wife as a model participant in the program, saying that my wife's case is really impressive as she has almost never encountered a recovery like this. The dietician also confessed humbly to my wife that she has been suffering from diabetes, and she knows how difficult it is to overcome it - she never has.
My wife took zero medication meant for pregnant women, including any protective shots. We took our own supplements, mainly iodine and fish oil instead of what was marketed by our doctors.
My dear wife gave birth to a healthy and fully alert son who is 26 months of age as of now. Physically, communicatively, and cognitively, he is at least 2 years ahead of his peers now with lots of empathy. I follow Dr. Fung and Dr. Berg for diet and health and lifestyle-related issues. Importantly, I have been following Dr. Gabor Mate, Dr. Jordan Peterson, Dr. Sears, and Dr. Paul in raising my child, since pre-conception.
I will be adding Dr. Lorenzo to my list now. Thank you Dr. Lorenzo!

I had LASIK done before it had been approved by the FDA, circa 1992, so not sure if it's a result of the surgery, or just getting older, but 30 years later I've got tons of floaters, dry eyes and the nearsightedness returned.
Would have liked to have heard what tests (for diabetic retinopathy) to ask for if one can't get to Mexico City for an appointment.
What about Macular Degeneration (Wet or Dry)?
Any thoughts on chronic dry-eyes/inflammation? Are there any nutritional supplements that may help the eyes-- Omega 3s (Flying Fish Roe), Lutein, Vitamin-A (ICaps)?

When to8Opticians. They told me the vitreous gel was leaking. If suddenly I saw dark shadows I should go to hospital as an emergency. I had another test again told to watch and wait. That I may have retinal damage.
This week I went to an optathalmist. He could see a large floater but told me he could not see any tears. He said it was a normal part of ageing to have this gel leak.He said that about 2%of people get a detached retina with the leaking gel. I am baffled as I dont do sugar and eat mostly meat. Omad .
