Carnivory - a cure or a risk? - Diet Doctor Podcast with Amber O’Hearn

  • Many have referred to a ketogenic diet as “extreme,” “restrictive” and “potentially dangerous.” Now, those same concerns have focused on an all-meat carnivore diet. Although it is new in popularity, people have been practicing a carnivore diet for decades, and possibly centuries.
Does that mean it is safe and without concern? Not necessarily. There is much we still don’t know about eating only meat, and Amber admits that. With her balanced and intellectual approach, she helps us understand the complexity of defining if this diet is “safe,” and helps us understand who might benefit most.

Josh Lockie what do mean cholesterol is a lie? It is the measurement used to indicate the amount of plaque buildup in your arteries. If your cholesterol is over 150, you are at a significantly increased risk for heart attack. People with a cholesterol below 50-75 have ZERO risk of heart attack, heart disease, stroke, or clot. A plant based vegan diet is how you get to that point as your body produces all the cholesterol it needs.

As for "many people are eating plants and doing just fine" - I don't think so. People are not "doing just fine". My argument is:
    - people have all sorts of problems but we don't know about them cos they don't tell - I had many problems and people thought I was doing fine, I wasn't telling anyone abut my problems;
    - you don't just get problems over night, it takes years, little pain here, headache there, when you are over 40 this, when you are over 50 that etc. I don't know ANY old person without any problem/illnesses, problems arrive sooner or later.
Paleomedicina knows this - when someone comes to their clinic and they are ill, they always test their healthy partner, too. And what they ALWAYS see is that partners have the same gut permeability, they just haven't developed any problems/illnesses yet. But in the future they will. Gut permeability guaranties you're gonna get ill with time. Why do you think there's so much cancer these days? All those people diagnosed with cancer are "doing just fine and thriving" until they don't anymore and get cancer and die. Or something else. And one more thing - all those people "thriving" are fairly young, wait until they get older.

They admit to a little depression, or a bit of IBS, or a touch of eczema, or just a funny bump that their doctor wants to biopsy - and I feel so sad knowing that their health can only continue to degrade as long as they keep eating the same way.
Hopefully the tide is changing, and real information will begin to percolate through the public consciousness.

I think the modern SAD American diet and vegetarian diets are way more destructive to human health than ketovore of carnivore diets. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors followed a mostly meat diet and that's what we are designed to eat as proven by our digestive design being similar to meat eaters and completely different than herbivores as.one example.

I have tried carnivore several times. Every time, after 1 or 2 weeks, I get disgusted by meat and I am not able to eat it anymore. Last time, I, then, started back a keto diet but with less protein because I wasn't able to eat much meat, the end result, my appetite and my weight increased...I"m now increasing my proteins and my fasting... I guess carnivore is not for me (?)

I was looking at an old, out-of-print book recently. It talked about studies in cats, where they were fed only muscle meat. The cats eventually lost bone mass and developed deforming osteoporosis. The concluding observation was that wild carnivores also gnaw on bones, the calcium from which supports their bone structure. As a result now, in zoos, carnivores are given either bone meal with their meat, or bones to gnaw on. Humans aren't cats obviously, but I worry about the risk of bone breakdown in human carnivores. Since bone weakening isn't 'felt' it could easily be happening despite feeling good.

I like mushrooms for the same reason, since being a fungus, it is not of the plant kingdom, which is what I consider carnivory to be: No food from PLANT kingdom. For me, plants are fine if used for flavor only(condiments), just as what I use mushrooms, cream and cheese for.
For me, food= steak, eggs, ground beef, bacon, sausage and chicken. NO SUPPLEMENTS.
Do carnivory the way that works for you, not how someone else dictates.

The Kitavans eat a high carb diet, mostly sweet potatoes and yet they don't have type 2 diabetes or other metabolic diseases, why? They most likely have a high personal fat threshold. That means they were most likely nursed in infancy for a long time and developed a large amount of fat cells which means as adults they have a higher fat threshold and will not have problems of insulin resistance. Fat babies, from rich breast milk, become healthy adults. In old Europe that was known way back. Americans never wanted to have fat babies back then.

My perspective underscores the paramount significance of expertise and rigorous critical evaluation in the consideration of dietary guidance. With a Ph.D. in human biology and chemistry, alongside licensure as a pathologist, my insights carry substantial authority. It is disconcerting when individuals lacking medical qualifications endeavor to prescribe dietary standards, particularly when that person also has bipolar mental dysfunction and absolutely no human biological or chemistry degrees.
Grounded in the indisputable principles of human biology, my assertion underscores the body's adeptness in processing animal-based proteins and fats. However, the prevalent overconsumption of fructose and carbohydrates in contemporary diets poses significant health hazards. Emphasizing humanity's evolutionary adaptability to thrive on diets rich in essential nutrients from animal sources resonates profoundly.
While plant-based sustenance can support life, optimal health necessitates a balanced approach that prioritizes nutrient-dense animal products. My commentary serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative for informed decision-making and adherence to evidence-based dietary practices, particularly amidst the prevalent dissemination of misinformation.
Throughout history, indigenous cultures worldwide have incorporated both starches and animal proteins into their diets out of necessity for survival. In times when meat is scarce, consumption of starches, including tubers and various edible vegetation, becomes essential. In fact, some tribes must process starches to render them edible.
Notably, adverse health outcomes, including obesity and mental disorientation, are chiefly prevalent in affluent Western societies where food abundance is the norm. This underscores the paradoxical nature of nutritional health in modern times.
While it can be argued that consuming animal products is indeed healthy in societies with abundant food, it is crucial to acknowledge the detrimental effects of sugar and junk food. Furthermore, it is important to recognize that a 100% carnivore diet may not be sustainable in the long term, especially in a modern world context where such dietary habits lack comprehensive long-term studies. Conversely, the ketogenic diet, which I view as optimal, benefits from extensive long-term data.
