After all,the American Heart Assoc was a tiny little inconsequential group before Procter & Gamble, the makers of Crisco, decided they wanted to market their solidified vegetable oils - originally invented for candle and soapmaking - as food. This is like that old Saturday Night Live skit: 'It's furniture polish! No! It's a dessert...! Don't fight, kids - It's BOTH!!'
Their funding is still mostly from industry - large, powerful corporations that profit from the sake of dangerous food-like substances, and drugs.

Went to see my cardiologist again today. Many, many 'Top Doctor Washingtonian Magazine' plaques on the wall. 30 years in the business at one of the top cardiac hospitals in the Washington DC area. LDL 178, HDL 76, Trigs 135. Trig/HDL 1.7. Chol/HDL 3.7. Looked good enough for me. He once again only focused on LDL and prescribed me another statin that I won't take. I asked him why our liver makes so much cholesterol if its killing us. He said our liver doesnt make cholesterol it only gets rid of it??? He said LDL kills us and statins increase the receptors in the liver to get rid of it before it does. He said we get LDL cholesterol from meat and oils? He did not know that the liver manufactures cholesterol. I know more about cholesterol from watching youtube than he does. How is that possible?

Ldl is not even cholesterol lol. Ldl is a form of lipoprotein which is used to transport cholesterol as well as other fats back tothe liver. The dangerous lipoprotein is small dense ldl particles that occur when ldl cholesterol is glycated, oxidized and then become infoamed in the arteries. This happens because of sugar. Cholesterol is an essential nutrient. Ldl is crucial. Sugar is poison and yet these doctors have no idea what they’re talking about and still recommend 5 servings of carbs a day 🤦🏼‍♂️

Not only the liver produces cholesterol but EVERY SINGLE CELL IN THE ENTIRE BODY. That is significant and shows how important cholesterol is. The human body can't simply leave it up us whether we want to consume it or not, each cell must have a secure source. That is why each cell produces its own cholesterol.
As for Statin drugs, read the book from Dr. Hannah Yoseph.

My GP wants me on statins my cholesterol skyrocketed after starting keto went up to over 9. The highest ever but my tryglicerades and HDL were good but LDL high . Ive not started them. I'm not overweight don't smoke and do cardio and weights at least 5 times a week .

Thank you. Excellent presentation. I'm a (non-lean) LDL hyper-responder after going low carb to remit my diabetes. My trig/HDL ratio is good and I am metabolically healthy. I have a benchmark CAC score of 0 at age 65 (test done after low carb for 1 year so most likely unrelated to diet change). The cardiologist who was very pleased that I had changed to low carb and lost 22.5% of my starting weight without trying wants me on a statin but I've said no.

I've been looking for a non-invasive way to prove I have no actual plaque, but I guess that's not it. I might have to take the Calcium CT scan, although it's a lot of radiation.

His final political point is well taken, and may explain a lot of the heat in the debate with vegans .There's no way governments can continue to underwrite the costs of metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance/heart disease without preventative measures being mandated - yes, mandated. But will they mandate low fat, or low carbs? That's the fight - with billions of industry dollars at stake - that is taking place on youtube and social media generally. Bloomberg has a record of taxing carbs as mayor of NY, so it will be interesting to see how he addresses health care if he's a serious candidate

I am a believer. Great presentation. But sometimes I think...why are we so smart about this topic, and other non LCHF believing doctors are ...stupid? I don't know....it's seems fairly simple for this layman to understand. Am I smarter than thousands of doctors relative to statins? Maybe so. I think that most primary care docs just recommend what the medical associations recommend...knowing that they might be sued if they don't prescribe statins and a patient dies of cardiovascular event.

The same thing applies to doctors that performed gastric bypass surgery on ulcers caused by bacteria up to 10 years after bacteria were proven to be the cause. Or lead in gasoline, BPA in plastic, floride in drinking water, mercury in filling (and mercurochrome) and a thousand of similar issues throughout history.
Still, at one point in history LCHF proponents might have been put to death by arguing against the views of the establishment. So, at least we've made some progress. When someone believes in something and supports it for decades, it becomes difficult to accept a paradigm shift that represents a diametrically opposed view.

Yes, Todd! Yet let us remember that plastics are made of toxic synthetic chemicals derived primarily from petroleum. Even BPA-free plastics outgass and/or transfer harmful chemicals via direct contact. Whether that contact is with our beverages, food, or our skin. ALL plastics do. Some are worse than others, but they are all harmful. Mercola.com has details, with references. (no affiliation)
Then there is the ongoing damage to the environment caused by digarded plastics...

I hear there is a high level of physician burnout these days. I can imagine if a Dr. sees most of his patients getting progressively sicker over the years, that might be discouraging and lead to burnout. The food pyramid is key factor in the ongoing rampant obesity/insulin resistance/diabetes epidemic. I can see why docs, who no doubt want to help, are getting burned out.

And veggies fruits. They were born in the twenties. Very little processed food until the sixties and seventies. All of my extended family lived into 90s. It causes atherosclerosis but damage can be somewhat controlled by keeping inflammation at bay (hello low carb... no sugar, grains or processed foods, healthy fats, alkaline veggies and good quality animal products/meats).

Thanks Dr berger, big fan of the low carb community who promote the diet.
Keep pushing! if you continue these presentations, low carb "cruises" and diet books, people will actually believe it.
Simply, the patients have failed the AMA by not paying attention to how much they eat, and simply trying to shift the blame to carbohydrates.
Is it any wonder people think potatoes make you obese, when they are overeating every day? This is easy to see when any diet will help people lose weight, regardless of the macro composition.

presjo , take a college human anatomy and physiology class. It will help you understand that carbohydrates cause the body to produce a lot of insulin. Proteins cause the body to produce very little insulin. Fats cause the body to produce no insulin.
The body's fat cells do not become insulin resistant. All of the other body cells become insulin resistant. If a person constantly bombards his/her body with carbs by eating them, all the body's cells, except the fat cells, become resistant to accepting insulin putting carbs into the cells.
It's like how the body becomes resistant to heroin when a person keeps doing heroin almost daily. The only way to stop being resistant is to stop using the thing (heroin, carbohydrates, etc.) that is causing the resistance.

    • @Jefferdaughter
      @Jefferdaughter Před 6 lety +4

Well stated, Kimberly! But Presjo seems to be a troll for the corporate profit and/or religous-beliefs (which can include the 'let' stop humans from eating animals, even though the other animals won't stop eating each other' fervor). Whether s/he is a paid troll, or a stoolie doing it for free.... Not sure it matters.
It's really sad if presjo is genuinely that totally deluded, but with insufficient high quality fats in the diet, and a whole host of nutritional deficiencies that those on plant-based diets typically have, it may be no surprise that thinking clearly could be a challenge. After all, in addition to the nutrients that are missing in plant-based foods, a lot of the nutrients that are found in plants are not bio-available (like calcium, which is often tied up in oxalates, as in spinach, almonds, etc) and/or simply NOT the same as from animal sources - like the Omega 3 fatty acids in flax or purslane.
With the horrible diet and huge burden of toxins, EMF fields, radiation, and now microwave radiation from our cell phones... it is really a wonder that we humans are doing as well as we are!
