body positivity should be for awareness of stretch marks, cellulite, acne, scars, amputees, burn victims, disabled people, elderly people who still manage to exercise and be healthy, people who take care of their bodies and are healthy but still show their flaws and imperfections. not for people who don't take care of themselves and show off an unhealthy lifestyle. period.

EXACTLY! I used to be 78lbs overweight and I am disabled...used my disability as an excuse why I was overweight for a while (in reality I had a sugar addiction and ate all my feelings away). Now I lost all the weight, my disability is so much better now and never ever will my excuses get in the way. The fat positive community needs a reality check....stop punishing yourself and start to truly love your health and body.

Some people are bed ridden and really can’t work out like at all they can do mobility stretches maybe. So all people should be appreciated but not enabling “lazy” folks. Lazy is in quotes because it’s not a medical term if someone is lazy there is something occurring even if it’s just lack of support or motivation. Still the fat movement is enabling a lack of motivation.

a generic potato same I have severe digestive issues similar to Crohn and I have ibs I’m trying to get a gastroparasis diagnosis and working out and gaining or losing weight is so hard but it’s not impossible it’s ok if some people accept what is. Some people can’t change and that’s ok but you still have to try it’s not ok to be complacent I know because I saw pictures of even after I was my sickest and I do look unhealthy I always wondered why people assumed I was anorexic when I ate normal I ate even 4000 calories sometimes didn’t exercise wasn’t bulemic but I was eating junk food and i felt like I was literally dying at 28 years old even tho I gained 20 pounds and was healthier. First got into body positivity because of a friend that had a giant scar on his chest. He finally got the confidence to take his shirt off at the beach and we were all super proud, you think his insta posts do crazy well, when was the last time you saw a quadruple amputee on the trending page?. It's crazy that fatness overtook this movement and are now getting upset at other people getting into it. Fat people are not the most marginalized people and I don't think a lot of people realize this.

She's been so self conscious about it, she was a yoyo dieter even before this, so I'm pretty sure she was never very confident in her image. Someone like her could've used that kind of positivity and sense of community.

I’ve been told I’m not included in body positivity because I’m normally about 130, give or take. I thought at first everyone was included and figured I’d be included for my multiple scars. It took years to get used to having them. One just got much bigger, and I’m not thrilled about it because it’s not healed yet. However, I was called ‘triggering’ because I’m a fit-thin person. I was told nobody makes fun of my scars because I’m ‘conventionally attractive,’ which I’m not. I have several tattoos and piercings and go for a punk/goth look. In the real world I’ve gotten a lot of shit because of my scars. Even just having strangers ask me about my scars, hoping for some gory story or assuming they are self-harm related, gets under my skin. Where is the love for scars?! Trust me, I’ve met people don’t give a shit about whether I’m in shape or not because all they can see is the 10 inch scar on my abdomen and the drain scars around it. They see the scar on my throat and think I either almost got murdered by a serial killer or I did it myself. They see the scar on my left leg and assume whether or not I can walk. I deserve to be body positive, because I didn’t do this to myself!

I’ve always been thin. If I had a dollar for every time I got told to eat a cheeseburger by someone glaring at me angrily I’d be a millionaire by now. It’s not right. Like I’m not allowed to be self conscious about any part of my body (I’ve had three kids and it is far from perfect after that) because I’m smaller. I’m not allowed to be proud of any part of my body because I’m small. Why can’t we all just learn to love ourselves and want the best for our bodies? Why do others have to hate someone else simply because they’re thin or fit? Can’t we just love each other as human beings and want the best for each other?? I’m not sorry that I’m small, I’ll never apologize for that.
I grew up with obese people in my family and it steered me down a dangerous path to having anorexia and bulimia. I worked hard to get back to having a healthy relationship with food and being a healthier weight. I still have stretch marks, some cellulite, my chest hasn’t been the same since breastfeeding all three kids, I have bunions on my big a** feet, and I have hereditary chronic health issues that make me feel broken some days, and Dangit, I’m allowed to love my body anyways, regardless of what angry bitter folks wanna say. Telling me to “eat some damn food” is actually a trigger that I have to overcome every time I hear it. I wish those people would get back to the center of what being body positive REALLY means.

I'm a paraplegic, so I have some muscles in my abs that I CAN'T tighten and unless I'm underweight, I have a pooch of fat that I can't hide at the bottom of my abdomen (below so many scars that I hate BTW) I HATE IT, but the "body positivity" stuff SHOULD help me feel better about that, AND my scars, AND my stick legs, AND my giant arms, but I'm not fat enough, my burn scars aren't cellulite, so I don't get to have "Body Positivity". FUCK THAT! I went through hell (I GO through hell) to keep living through the shit I've been through, that should be enough to make me proud and positive. I know it makes me proud to see others be positive for people who have been through shit and keep their chin up!

Acording to BMI , i was never obese but was overweight , 5'4 i weighed 170lb. Changing my habits was hard and always ended up with a fluctiating weight. But this january gavd me a new year resolution and due to an artist that inspired me, i set out on a mission to love myself. I started with taking care of my skin, it was an easy way to pamper myself and also required me to look in the mirror every day for long time. Then i moved on to my diet, changing it not because i was chasing a beauty standard but because i wanted to live longer and happier. I wanted to change because i loved myself, i am learning to love myself. 20lb lighter i can still be rather critical on my looks, weight doesnt change that entirely, but it does feel good when i notice how hard it is to MAKE a double chin and fitting into those shorts i wore when i was 9th grade.

My father died a few weeks ago at the age of 67. He was heavy, I wouldn't say obese (5'11 245lb), but maybe. But point is he died bc he couldn't say no to the foods that exacerbated his type 2 diabetes, which became insulin dependent etc. In fact his doctor said "To be honest yoir father died from a mong term addiction to sugar". In his youth my father was an athlete and in great shape. But he retired and it went to shit. I am obese, I am working with my doctor to fix that in a healthy way. I don't want to be dead at 67 because I couldn't say no to sugar. My dad followed the "eat what you want" mantra....and it killed him. And that changed my entire view, I am not healthy, am I beautiful? Yup. Am I a good person? Yup. Do people like me and want to be around me? Yup. But I am obese and I am unhealthy and that is something I can and will change. I don't need anyone trying to soapbox for me to be accepted, people love and accept me. But I am aware (maybe it's my education in anatomy and physiology) that this will be my cause of death if I don't change it.

I’m a slim girl (135lbs and 5’8”) and I’m sick of being skinny shamed by fat ppl left and right. The worst part is when they talk shit, I can’t say well you’re fat and jealous, leave me alone, because that would be rude. But them telling me to eat and telling me I’m too skinny is cool, thou.🙄On top of all this, my BMI is perfectly healthy.🤦🏼‍♀️

I would like to see all these "HAES" and "fat acceptance" people weigh in on these same Idols of theirs once they reach their old age (if they reach it it all) and see all the health problems they have. As a person who was once thin but became fat, I am appalled at the fact that these people choose to ignore all the very real consequences of an unhealthy life. I am body positive, I am choosing to change my body so I can live a longer, healthier... more POSITIVE Life! Also the terms "super fat" and "infinifat" are offensive, not empowering. I know I would be upset if someone called me that. These fat acceptance chicks have let the sugar rot their brains a bit.

I can say I’m fit and body positive, I can say obese isn’t healthy, etc, and someone can be offended and that’s IT end of story you’re offended, and what? I need to change what I say because of it? Body positivity was a huge help for me to loose over 100lb. Now I'm left with a lot of loose skin and still have a lot of insecurities.
But when I returned to my old body positivity groups, I've been dismissed because I'm no longer 'big enough' to understand the issues at hand. I've been called fatphobic and people act like I've betrayed the movement by losing weight.
It's awful that fat acceptance has taken over the actually useful voices of body positivity.

My trim niece (not skinny, but "lean solid") is a BP influencer, but she was never husky, thick or heavy in any way. I don't get where her mental health issues over her body (that she claims are resolved after years of struggling) come from. She grew up in an era of "Beauty at all sizes" and film/TV stars and recording artists with thick bodies. She has a body that every single one of those plus size influeners would murder for. I believe she subconsciously shifted her mental health issues onto her body---maybe because that made it easier for her to cope? And YES...she has to DISTORT her body, slouch and sit funny and tinker with camera angles to show its "imperfections." That is SO true!!!! The root problem is NOT the media's glorification of thinness. In this day and age, it's OBESITY that's glorified; been so for years now. The root problem is FAMILY LIFE. Something went awry...
