I'm Hawaiian. A lot of Hawaiians and Samoans have a gene variant that allows for 35% more efficient fat storage. Because of this gene variant, it is A LOT easier for us to gain weight and become obese. While this was a great gene to have when you are sailing around the pacific ocean it's not so great in modern times. I have this gene, my brother died from obesity at 40 years old from a widow-maker heart attack. My cousins and some of my Uncles after my brother died all went on diets and lost weight. I have never been obese or fat. I saw what it did to my brother. Is it easy? For me absolutely not. I can't indulge in a piece of cake or dessert. If I do I will gain 1-2lbs. I hate all of the excuses these people give. They aren't genetically predisposed to this shit. They are just lazy and gluttonous.

Young people don't realize exactly how fat can affect your health. My mom, my aunt, and my great-aunt all had breast cancer. They are/were all overweight or obese for at least a decade. None of my more slender aunts and female family members on my mom's side had cancer. We are more cancer-prone, but my mom's doctor said their cancer was estrogen fed, and was made worse by being fat. I'm not a medical professional and don't exactly understand everything, but I know that being overweight ups my already high chance of getting cancer. Fat activists always try to use "evidence" that being fat isn't harmful, but I've seen it within my own family. I need to stay normal weight for my literal long-term health.

She survived (THANK GOD) and my parents only told be about this today. To think that someone like virgie tovar encourages people to develop weight issues that will require a surgery to fix, they may cause other problems like what happened to my cousin is just saddening.

"Thinness is a sign of self control..."
No. HEALTH is a sign of self control and effort. Someone who is bulimic or anorexic is thin and is out of control.
YES, people can change their size. I'm 6ft tall and 10 years ago was 220+ lbs. I started running an hour a day and got down to 160 in just a few months. Today I balance a little more and maintain a weight of 185.
Do factors like age, sex, genetics, and even wealth make losing weight easier for some people? Yes. Does that mean its impossible to change your size? No.

    • @baileymoran8585
      @baileymoran8585 Před 3 lety

Right? Generally, drug addicts are thin, or at lest thinner than when they were not on drugs. They do not look healthy, though. The drug is completely in control, and it often shows up in both their behaviors and their appearance. Having a healthy, balanced routine implies self control. Sometimes that shows up in someone’s body.

I have more energy and motivation to do stuff, am down almost 80lbs, and have a 6 pack for the 1st time in my life. None of my old clothes fit and i had to drill multiple holes in my belts and lifting belt. She wrote an article about how she refused to go on a second date with a guy because he didn't want to eat chips and candy with her (which she refers to as "the perfect summer meal" like what? You could eat that anytime! Bonus points that it was watermelon candy, which, you know, an actual watermelon is more of a summery food...)
She's also known for a video in which she thinks someone asking for a smaller piece of cake is a direct referendum on *her* body size, and thus fat shaming, when maybe that person knew they wouldn't eat that much and didn't want to waste food? Or just didn't want to have a sugar crash later?

There's nothing fit happening here. But I do have wellness, which is an essential step before health or fitness can be attained. Wellness includes not being a total nutcase and saying crazy shit, like you can be healthy at every size. That's just a trap to justify staying overweight.

Yes, my bone structure is wider, I'm also 5'9 and come from German farmers. So yes, I will probably never easily be a slender supermodel, however I can be strong and healthy and that's what I'm working for.
I want to get my own good habits locked in before I have kids, so they won't have to learn it as an adult and undo years of extra weight and not understanding how much a portion really is for what their body needs.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t help but be morbidly obese! You can be normal weight or even slightly overweight and be the picture of health and attractiveness! There’s beauty in the diversity of healthy bodies! Beyonce isn’t a size 2 but she’s gorgeous!!

Oh, wait, maybe it was my lack of self-around around food and the enormous amount of calories I was consuming that made me fat, not my genetics alone. After being overweight and obese for my whole life I changed my bad eating and exercise habits over the course of about two years and lost over 100 pounds. It is possible. I think many overweight and obese people would rather believe it is impossible because that justifies their unhealthy habits that they are either unwilling or perceive themselves as unable to give up.
My advice for anyone struggling with weight: Take that first step in the right direction. You don’t have to give up all the junk food overnight. Instead of having a big bowl of ice cream, start having small cups. Instead of three snack cakes, have two, and eventually one. If you eat a lot of fast food, start cooking some of your meals at home. As you get more comfortable cooking for yourself, home cook the majority of your meals. Start taking two minute, five minute, ten minute walks. Progress seems impossibly slow at first, as the human body‘s instinct is to maintain whatever weight it is at. Many give up, but if you hold yourself accountable and don’t allow yourself to fall back into your bad routines, you can definitely lose weight.
And of course, keep in mind that there is no one-size-fits-all solution; everyone will respond differently, so find what works for you.

I managed to lose the weight by changing my diet and stop eating and drinking as much junk food as well as stop binge eating. I also work out but not on a consistent basis. 😆 I hated it when I was obese as I was limited in what I could do or wear to express my self. My wakeup call came when I went to Six Flags over GA and my biggest fear wasn't the height of the roller coasters but the fear that I would be to over weight or to big to fit in any of the rides. I changed my body size. First off I want to say I was always active growing up and played sports. Fast forward to my adult life......well life happens and all I did was work and work some more. A lot of times I would have to eat on the go or grab something quick, fast food. So my heaviest was 245 at 5’9”. Not a tall guy so it showed a lot that I gained a lot of weight. I woke up one morning and hated who I saw in the mirror. I would get tired easy or run out of breath easy and had zero control of my eating habits. So finally I said to myself enough. I started researching on diet plans and meals plans and learned about what foods and how much I should have. And that is the key getting the knowledge! Then I started to go out for a walk for about a mile. There was no way I could go out for a run or light jog so walked with my 2 dogs, they helped a lot, walked for a mile until I got comfortable with it and then went for 2 miles then 3 miles then the most amazing thing happened.......I started to notice changes on my face I noticed that I was excited to go for those walks right after work. Then people would tell me “hey ivan you’re looking good bud” that alone gave me the confidence to start running again. I use to run a lot as a kid and in sports. So I started running. I’d wake up at 4:45am to be on the road at 5 for a 4.5 mile run and be done by 6 and be well and ready to go to work by 7. I did that 5 to 6 times a week eventually 4.5 miles got too easy and started finding new routs and would do 6 mile runs and finally challenged myself to do 10 mile runs. I started logging 70 miles a week. It took me 2 yrs to get to this point. It wasn’t easy. But I went from 245lbs to 175 lbs. about 2 months ago I started to lift weights and really focused on my leg and core muscles, hip flexors , and glutes to strengthen them to get faster have more endurance and to be blatantly honest to look good. I’m at 190 lbs now with about 12% body fat. And I love love love to run.I feel amazing at 37 yrs old and being able to run as much as I can. Now when people find out or ask how old I am they are shocked. Saying damn You look 25 or 20 something. It’s also nice when a 20 something yr old girl winks at you too.
So yes having the will to change my habits and putting in the hard work and dedication has changed my life around for the better. I never want to go back to the 245 lb guy.

Its been 3 years and im not going to give up and when i reach my goal I'll just keep and make sure i remain fit and healthy. My fit and healthy is different from others fit and healthy. I've definitely changed my body size. When I was born I was 9lbs of cubby baby but growing up I was lean. I stayed 117lbs into my mid-twenties. I never understood how unhealthy my eating was despite being incredibly athletic. Then I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and was hit square in the face with how poor my eating habits were.
I lost myself at that time and, despite learning a little about food, I went from 117lbs to 215lbs in about 7 years. That's when I knew I needed help so I started listening to Michelle McDaniels, Alan Roberts, John and led me to join the SwoleFam. In less than a year I've changed my life around. I'm back in the 100s for weight and feeling better than I remember for so long.
I went from Obese III to me Obese I and still losing weight. Body size can be changed and you'll feel better doing it.

Everything became more difficult and uncomfortable (not to mention the health problems; high blood pressure, abnormal ekg’s) I had never been overweight until I hit my 30’s. I think maybe people who have always been overweight don’t realize how much harder it makes your life. Some of these women think we are just haters, but the truth is a lot of us know what it’s like to be overweight and how much better your life is when you get it under control. Your quality of life is so much better, and if it makes us bad people to want that for everyone, so be it. I guess I’m a bad person.
