As a mother this was something I really had to work on! It was so hard to sit back and watch my husband do things with the kids his way!!! I complained about always being the one to do things, but then stepped in to “correct” my husband when he would do it his way. I realized that my way was not the right, or only way to get things done! Stepping back has given my husband more confidence to trust his instincts. It has also taken so much off of me!! 2 heads are so much better than 1!!!

Listen, we NEED more black nuclear families to share their stories and emphasize the importance of fathers. My parents were married before they ever had children and my father has always been a strong important part of my life. I was married before I ever had children and it has made all the difference. My husband, a strong educated beauty black man, is a strong visionary who wants nothing but the best for our children. We live in an upper middle class black community. We made a conscious decision to live here with our children to give them the opportunity to enjoy their lives surrounded by families just like us and we DO EXIST. There are almost 10 million black married couples in the United States and we are not shown in the media or given a true representation because conditioning black people to feel negative and hopeless and to dismiss our numbers makes us feel like we don’t count. How many married black families do we see represented? Keep doing what you do and sharing your life. We need to inspire our community to marry well, have children in a two parent structure and to love and support our children.

My father was extremely gentle and gracious with me (his daughter). He was encouraging and enthusiastic about my skills, abilities, and growth. He was not aggressive with me in any way, but as an adult I can see that that was the right approach with ME. He didn’t say this, but I can tell also that that’s how he needed to parent for HIMSELF because he was trying to “do it different” and break a generational cycle of abuse that he experienced. Parenting me is healing for him, I know it. And I am immeasurably grateful to him for that. Black fathers love their children and should be given the respect and space to parent their children based on what they know about them as little humans. We are not all the same and require different approaches in our development (as you said in another video). Strict expectations of the way fathers father feeds into the narrative that Black people (and thus parents and their children) are monolithic, all the same. No. One thing Black fathers are brilliant at is seeing greatness in their children. Just like any father they may make mistakes or not understand how to foster that, but those who try from a place of love are really magic. Black fathers are amazing. Love this video ❤️

Not saying he was a BAD dad or abusive...he was just always so busy trying to take care of us financially that he was never around. It was this absence that drove me to be to be the father that I am. Being as heavily involved in my daughters life as I could possibly be...being there for herschool event, actively being her biggest cheerleader and giving her the guidance and support that she NEEDED. Today she's 22 about to graduate from college and I can sincerely say...she IS a better person than I am. We as parents have to sacrifice so that they can succeed and excel! Thank you for your tribute to fathers. Black Fathers bring a wealth of love, knowledge and guidance to their family.
CZcams is an excellent platform for successful fathers to demonstrate the love they have for their family.
It’s unfortunate what the enslavement process, miseducation, underemployment, incarceration, and infiltration of drugs have done to destroy Black families.
My father was third generation born into freedom. He remained dedicated to his wife and children until death. My dad was the nurturing parent. He carried the weight of his family on his shoulders as the only working parent. My father worked, shopped, cleaned, and cooked. He was our advocate, counselor, and teacher. He taught us about our heritage, how to learn and think critically. He taught us how to cook, shop, clean, sew, play games (cards, jacks, pickup sticks, hop scotch, etc.) and dance.
My father was observant to each of his five children and knew when we were bothered and he listened and helped us resolve the problem.
When we had families of our own, my dad became our marriage counselor, babysitter to his grands, chauffeur, and so much more.
There was nothing that we would not do to bring joy and comfort to our father. When you get older your children will remember these times and reward you accordingly. God blessings to you and your family.

It’s not the usual “ relaxed, absent or abusive” narrative. it’s dedicated authority, calm, protective and fun. So when a black dad is being an EXEMPLARY father & is standing as all that God has called him to be, it makes society very uncomfortable. But truly they are in place!! Shoutout to all the black dads! As a single parent , I understand and appreciate stern guidance especially where safety is considered. My 2kids and myself we had several forces against us , " family " , believe it ! . I worked construction for 20 years , just to get us through . Wasn't a foreman . Didn't work in the office . I worked With the men . This old white woman appreciates your wisdom , the love you show your family .

My husband just retired and I started working and going to school. Its been challenging but fun to see him grow as a father in this new home dynamic we have. I let him do it his way so I can study and work. It's not easy sometimes but I trust him and he also listens to me because he knows I've been here for years and know what works for them sometimes. We have to still do it together and trust each other's instincts at every stage of parenthood and season of life.

I think that’s where the push comes from, it’s from seeing the greatest in your children and wanting the rest of the world to see that ❤️ Thank you for the reminder Beleaf, I’ll be sure to tell my dad the same thing and not just the internet 😅

Beautifully stated, my brother. I was privileged to be raised by both of my parents in a two-parent home. They made some mistakes as we all do as parents. However, they got so much right. I value the importance of both parents. Of course, as I wrote in a poem many years ago, "Queens should not have to stand alone, sons cannot become men on their own, daughters won't know how to expect a man to treat them, unless they are shown..." It was a message to the importance of Black men and Black fathers in our lives. Thank you for sharing your truth, experience, perspective, and light with us everyday. Blessings to you and your family. Keep doing it your way. 🙏🏽✌🏽

This really has me crying as I'm sitting inthe back of my car. My bf is driving and it really hit me that the man I'm with I don't want to be the father of my children. This beautiful video shows so much of what I strive to have one day but our morals etc just don't match up. Why I'm still living daily with someone who brings more pain than happiness . Life is short and I'm not young anymore. I got to stop wasting my life because I could be with someone who is my best friend. Ugh I know I'm all over the place but I had to get this out. I adore your family and especially how you and your wife decide to raise your kids.

Such awesomeness on this channel. I did not grow up with a father in my life. I often wonder how my life would be if I had. Yes, black dads deserve to be celebrated more than they are. They are so necessary. My son-in-love is a great dad to my 4 grandbabies. My daughter has had to learn to allow him to father the kids in his own way, and they do a great job together.

Such a great piece. When you talked about how society (U.S) puts black fathers in these two boxes - doing too much (aggressive) or doing to little (passive)... I immediately thought "it's because we are rarely shown all sides of black men in the media." The soft sides as well as the serious. And then, it hit me! That's what you're doing! Amen.

I hope you realise what an inspiration you are to many. I am a single Mummy to 2 boys, 9&3; both of which have numerous health conditions and learning difficulties. I am not ashamed to say, I struggle. I really struggle. My eldest son is particularly challenging. He struggles to understand why he is burdened with so many health problems, which results in a lot of anger (mostly aimed at me as I'm his safe space). Watching your videos, gives me confidence in my parenting ability, and faith that one day, I may get it right. Thank you so much for your inspiring content, may it long continue!

I love watching your relationship Beleaf with your children. I for one think that you're doing a wonderful job. I wish more men would step up to the plate and be there for their kid(s). I had a great relationship with my Dad, Daddy's Gurl and hence the reason why I miss him dearly now that he transcended 10 years ago. Continue doing you. 🙋🏾‍♀️
