Along for the ride...👍🏴
This is going to be awesome.
Nice shape for having sat so long! You really have a lot to start with...I'll be watching. Great video!
Cool bus! I have two '61 buses, a double cab pick-up and a double door panel (mine is red). Working on the panel as we speak.
Absolutely unbelievable how solid this Bus is. It's definitely found the right home and owners. Rebuilding the original engine is definitely the way to go. Thank you for not touching the paint. 🤙👍
Thanks for watching!!
Way too cool VW bus. And yes they are one original once 👍
I have a spray coupe in the trees. Ran last time we used it
Thanks for preserving the history of your bus by keeping the original paint. I can't wait to see the outcome.
Saudações do Brasil ...
also PLEASE use flat or satin clear. on the lower dash parts. so the rust is not too shiny. I would satin clear the roof too. Mask under the drip rail and white sotchbrite the roof with some cleaner and clear it.
Yep! I only use matte finish for most painting.
The paint is not too bad. You should try polishing it and see how it looks
Dammit, I just got into my office to work & now I have to take a 10 min "break" to watch this. lol. I agree with you - test yourself to see if you can do it yourself. I think it's great to do things yourself. It keeps costs down & you learn. I didn't know the difference between a carb or fuel injection when I got our bus and couldn't do anything myself. With books & youtube I started to tackle little things and worked my way up. Now, I can do a lot of repairs & upkeep myself (unless it comes to transmission or rebuilding the whole engine).
The great thing about buses is that they are somewhat basic & simple & you can buy just about any part you need too. I'm 100% with you on keeping everything as it is (besides necessary metal work). A set of Safari windows on the front would look great too! Awesome job guys!!
Lol thank you for keeping up with us! We appreciate it! :)
@@evilironclassics2719 i tell myself all kinds of excuses to not work. Lol.
You've got a really sound survivor there, great so many parts are available. Like checking out the progress each week, as the build goes on. Looking forward to the next one 👍
Fantastic condition for its age, good luck, I look forward to see it on the road
Thank you!
To keep the pristine u should clear coat the whole van wheels and all if your keeping the wheels, it will prevent further rusting hopefully
Yep! We are gonna rust treat all of the rust and then matte clear coat the whole bus!!:)
It's going to be a cool ride , i love the vw buses ,, stay safe my friends , i cant wait to see it go down the road
Thanks for watching friend!
I cannot believe that bus sat in the woods very long. And I thought your neighborhood looks familiar. Our brother in law was an air traffic controller in Grand Forks and we visited them before they moved to Texas. Have a t-shirt from Andy's HD. Stopped there while riding from Oregon to Maine. Since you are a fabricator, body work will be easier than outsourcing. Check it out Mike Fn Garage. He has done some amazing work. I'll purchase a shirt, just send cost and address. Will stay tuned.
Oh wow! It’s definitely a small world! TShirts are $25 and 5 dollars for shipping! Thank you!!!

I have a 1967 Jeepster. I bought it from someone who had already gotten an estimate to do body work on it and paint it. It's difficult to find survivors, thank goodness, like you said, patina is considered to be cool today, because it's saving many cars from losing their originality.
really crazy how where that thing was sitting with all the barnacles of moss on it how it is not super rusty. honestly it is really good shape for a bus sitting in the woods. I would not paint it either. get some TR3 and it will clean up really nice. show a video of you doing that. you will get lots of views.
Thank you! We will definitely do that!
It does look real solid guys👍🏽 well done. Make sure you add a heap of sound deadening to back as these panels are insanely loud while driving 😁 looking forward to more updates 🙏🇦🇺
Thanks for the advice!! I will definitely look into that! :)
You'll have to widen the inside of the gearbox if its a 12volt donor engine. If it was me I would find a 6volt engine and stick with that.
Christena, I think I would like to pay for the paint for the roof if you find out that it needs to be painted.
Well that’s awfully nice of you!!
not so much a restoration as a resurrection! Nice.
SAFARIS LEAK hope your not in a very rainy state! do your research for the best safaris.
