Well, it can also mean that some chap with all the brains of a snot munching goblin has cut you off and then stopped but, yes, 99% of the time it's your own fault.

    • @SVEVelsen
      @SVEVelsen Před 22 dny

Hard disagree. Plenty of cases where drivers who are way too old or lack skill slam the brakes utterly randomly.
I hit one such oldie because at a intersection where I am obligated to look left (unless I want to murder a cyclist) he began to turn right, then realises he's so old he needs two lanes and there's a oncoming car 50+ meters out, and he went into a boomer-induced psychosis and slammed the brakes.
Had to take it all the way to court to win, but did win: He had no reason to brake, drove carelessly so I'm under no obligation to avoid hitting him.

@@SVEVelsenAnd yet you still hit him. Drivers nowadays are too focused on not being at fault for an accident, instead of focusing on avoiding the accidents in the first place.
In 99% of cases, crashing into the back of someone is your fault. It is *irrelevant* whether they had good reason to brake sharply. What matters is *cars are capable of stopping suddenly* and you should drive at a distance that means you can react and stop if they do.
This is how to drive to *avoid* accidents, even if the accident wouldn't be your fault.

#11 5:42 It didn't help that you were less than half of the braking distance behind the car in front. You can't see in front of them especially in the dark so why drive so close? Could be any reason they stop suddenly, a fox, a child, a pothole, or they see a layby to stop at and take a look at a map for an alternative route in this instance.

Also a vehicle doing a three point turn or reversing into a driveway and have started while the road was clear they have right of way. Sadly curtesy has vanished from the UKs roads, everybody is racing to be in front. It's good to be sure but don't be dead sure.

Clip 7 - Something that you learn if you take advanced driving courses in the UK is that you don't always need to use indicators to signal a lane change. In the case of those police cars, their lane change was perfectly safe, and no other vehicles were placed in danger. When you can see the whole of the car behind you in your rear-view mirror generally means it is safe not to use indicators, of course to judge when the car in front is at a safe distance is usually the "2-3 second rule." Btw, traffic police all undergo advanced driving techniques.

You may think you have spotted every other road user who may be affected by your actions, but one day you are going to be wrong. Giving a signal - even if you are sure it's not needed - might give somebody else that vital little bit of extra time to avoid a problem caused by your error."

@@JustsomeblokeinYorkshire The case in the video is pretty damn simple isnt it and in all other cases you have to take it's merrits into consideration and if there is any doubt at all yes I give an indication so when I don't I am sure that as sure can be thats the case but you also have to take into account road positioning doing the indicating for you as well so there is this back up to no indicators when I don't and that speaks for what your intentions are as well.
As with your ADI there are some rotton apples in the barrel so go to the tree with me the Instructors who instruct ADI drivers.
ADI drivers with some always have a slight alsnt on things so if you are picking the apple off the tree you are A. Sure to get it Fresh and B. Sure that that is the tree they should all be singing from.
I recomend Ashley Neal YT He holds the view that many of us Advanced and response drivers hold on this one do you singing with indicators when needed and you positioning when needed.

Meaning before long they don't use their indicator (we call it a blinker here in the states but I like y'alls version better) at all. I personally ere on the side of caution and use it all the time. When I did my advanced driving (IAM) I was told that to move right you should generally indicate, after all; you are also telling the person in front that you are about to move out, but if you are moving left, since that is where you should be, you generally don't need to. Sometimes it's a good idea to do so, but it's not always needed. I was also taught that until you can see both front headlights of the vehicle you have just passed in your rear view mirror, not your left wing mirror your rear view mirror, it's not safe to pull left.

Number 7, learn the highway code. Its not a requirement to indicate going from right to left lane as the left lane is the default lane and to be expected they go back into it when overtaking you. You only really need to indicate left when turning off the motorway or turning left

#18 - I know the road well, both lanes used to go to the traffic lights, with a feeder lane going left to a junction to join the road heading to Stourbridge. There used to be no issues with traffic here, then some bright spark decided to change to lanes so the left lane takes the left turn and only the right lane goes straight on to the lights. Whilst there is signage, many vehicles make the same mistake as the van here, with similar results. in my view, very poor road layout change causing significant potential for traffic accidents.

But yes, if someone does something deliberately illegal, dangerous and stupid - just leave them to it. They tend to be the type that will react with an immediate temper tantrum, and it isn't worth it. Oh, and send the clip to the Police.
And, in the case of liveried vans, CC their employer.

Because there were no blues and twos, with them driving briskly and clearly with purpose, I should think that they're on a driving course - meaning the passengers in each car will be two of the most highly skilled road drivers on the planet. People viewing this video and believing the police drivers did anything wrong, really should view a video course on advanced driving. There is nothing wrong with indicating in that situation, but equally there is reason to do so either.
