Welcome back to Casually Competitive MTG! We are a group of friends who enjoy playing fast-paced, semi-competitive EDH / cEDH games. In today’s game we have some Magic: The Gathering Commander gameplay with a matchup between Koll the Forgemaster; Urza, Lord High Artificer; Jorn, God of Winter; and Kozilek the Great Distortion. I thought Nate misplayed at the end by not using the Tormond's Crypt to stop the reanimation loop, but then I reread all of Grand Abolisher's text and was like "Oh I guess reading the card explains the card."
Make another game with the Kozilek deck please!! I really want to see the deck playing :(

Honestly, found this to be more interesting that the "who can tutor up thassa's oracle and demonic consultation first" style of games
Those games aren’t even worth watching anymore tbh. As soon as I see more than 1 deck in dimir I just skip it

@@bigdon9999 What I mean is interesting in something different to see. Doesn't have to be a good or exciting game, just different. Seeing how stax pieces impact different decks.
Seeing every game be "who can tutor a combo first", isn't interesting, entertaining, or exciting. It's basically just seeing who was lucky enough to get it first. I could just watch four people roll dice to see who gets the highest total, and it is about the same level of bland.
This is all my opinion, though. If you enjoy watching combo-based games, power to you (or anyone else).
@@AlexOvTheAbyss more not enjoying stax,stax,stax. At least most combo decks leave open room for interaction
@@bigdon9999 Yeah, if every game ends up just being a stax-fest, it will be just as bland. Frankly, this is the first video I've watched from this channel in a while, since all the combos videos got so boring, so I possibly could be wrong and this is their 872 stax video in a row 🤷♂️
I love this name, Collector Ouphe... not only because it's funny, but also because entire tables say "OOF!" when it comes down.
I'm pretty sure at least one of us yells OOOF! every time one hits the field. You can't play ouphe without an oof

I swear there’s two good replays of Kozilek on all of CZcams. Every video i watch is just my colorless boys going ham turn 1 then not playing for 15 minuted
I don't see problem watching games with heavy stax. The interactions were very high and fun to watch! I hope to see more games like this in the place of Demonic/Thassa

3 stax decks... and all of them lose to Boros.
I find it thematically appropriate that the decks running winter orb thawed to the color pair that's most associated with the dawn.

I don't know who needs this, but I've made an oof scale for MTG:
When 1 person is affected, oof.

I love your guys twist on tuning what might not be a meta-cedh deck and giving it as much power as possible, it's super satisfying to see different decks and I love alternate builds
For a Jorn deck, there are a lot of non-snow lands in the deck... Command Tower, Morphic Pool (just to name 2)...
I like watching stax games every now and then so I get to experience and not play against it.
Tfw i was so hyped for the Kozilek deck... goddammit Jordan!
cEDH is always better with 1 stax player at the table. Otherwise its just 4 people playing "Go Fish" with their win-cons and counterspells. Great Content Guys! :)

It's a superb display of WHY stax can be brutal and absolutely balance out degenerate starts like Crypt into X into Y!

A 2 person commander game is really fun when two of the players can't even get around their own stax cards.
The wincon was sweet. The set up to get there was awesome even if kozilek just got to sit there and stare at a mountain of useless artifacts.
I really like the boros counter magic and the deflecting swat into twinflame play was a ton of fun.
That was an awesome game to watch. Stax is part of cEDH. It’s great to watch decks try to squeeze through it and get a victory. Some CC, if it’s you playing. Just say instead of third person. We know it’s you and it’s fine to talk like that. Lol
I almost have to wonder how many lands are in Adam's deck. Lots of rocks, but after like two land drops he just didn't have any more.
Also stax intensifies. I laughed myself silly when the second Winter Orb hit the table.
"All right, it's gonna be one of THESE." Harder when Static Orb resolved.

@@Sliver_Boi I'm glad you take it that well, I'd be pretty pissed to be killed that way when I'm doing absolutely nothing xD.
In cEDH, players sign up to not be salty about any plays or strategies. They're playing to win after all.
@@su0tin731 cEDH is about optimal plays. If ouphe died for any reason, adam would have run away fast. And since jorn wants to attack, if one player has no blockers, makes sense to swing at them.
@@frycook6396 Attacking the player that can do nothing about anything seems pretty suboptimal to me, considering you could be protecting your PWs or offering trades. Also, since almost every game finishes with a combo, I don't think beating someone down in 10 turns is anywhere near optimal.
How to win with Koll? Do nothing whole game and cumulate 7 cards with combo and interaction. Wait 13 turn to let them kill each other. Win.

I was interested in kozilek. Then remembered ouophe and stony silence exist, so no fun allowed for the person already forced into a higher mana value average deck with no cheap removal :(

I think shocklands are bad for Jorn. I just play duals, fetches, the kaldheim tapped snow duals and lots of snow covered basics and you get much more mana from untapping your lands than if you play too many non snow lands.
I think boreal druid wasn't untapped once but that may be a shortcut to play the sol ring.
Future sight wasn't revealing the library a few times but I'm not sure how that is handled in between actions like rearranging the library or so.
Pretty sure if I was Adam I would’ve scooped awhile ago lol

this is a great example of why stax without a solid win condition is quite bad, as it usually gets you hated out of the game quite quickly
The Jorn deck does have a solid wincon, Thoracle + Consult. The oracle was going to be found by Fiend Artisan, the question is was he able to locate the Consult. Rather, this shows that the best way to deal with stax decks is through combat.
Sadly even straight forward wincons with stax gets you hated out.
Adam's experience is why I absolutely hate Stax: I hate not existing in the game.

Adam is way more patient than me. I would have scooped way earlier. Sooooo much fun to not play commander. Hate cards that prevent you from actually playing the game.
Yea, my table has a good amount of high level play, but not Cedh. I am never afraid to scoop early for the reason of getting to the next game quicker. Stax is tough because I don't want to say to someone not to touch x% of cards because I don't like them - for me, as long as the game ends in a few turns after a lock is set, it's bearable, because people's turns should be quick because of the locks anyways.
@@DylanBU41 idk, they have bans for a reason and a lot of tables have personal bands. Just depends on the level at which you want to play. I prefer relaxed have fun doing random stuff commander. Like I only make tribal decks pretty much because that is what I like and they never are top tier lol
@@eichiboy95 100% and I most definitely am biased because of what my 3 friends like to play. I was the one making mostly tribal/combat decks, to be hit with constant interaction and realized I had to change something because my friends are not battlecruisery. You're right though, it all comes down to table!
