    So we have a Deflecting Swat countering a Fierce Guardianship countering a Fierce Guardianship countering a Force of Will countering a Seedborn Muse. Force of Will being the only counter that someone actually paid mana for. Safe to say Commander: Ikoria has had an impact on the format.

      I got into a stack war with a buddy of mine whose a real Esper freak and i'm huge on Jeskai, and I was playing with my Sevinne deck (I have like 5 Jeskai decks lol and my cedh deck is Kykar!) and its my medium power control deck. I gave my graveyard flashback after someone killed my Scary Teferi which enabled him to use his 3 counters in his hand...but i had 3 counters in the grave and 2 in hand. Easy to see, he wasn't winning this counter war lol.

      @Aldrnari956 Před 4 lety +2

      I don’t think that people actually have a problem with it being a compact win, it’s just that it can get old seeing which decks people pick and knowing that the Thrasios/Tymna deck running the consultation combo is going to win. This game was really great with some awesome back and forth, but still boiled down to the same predictable ending. The combo isn’t bad in cEDH, it just gets boring to watch time after time.

    Assuming that the only card we KNOW Nate had in hand at the time was mana drain I feel like he maybe should have cast that evacuation. He would loose his construct which isn't ideal but as he wasn't really set up to win the next turn anyway from the looks of it I feel like wasting mana re-casting Urza would have hurt him less than recasting their boards would hurt everyone else. Just a thought though, obviously it's hard to say without knowing what he had in hand and such. Great game and thanks for introducing me to cEDH Cast :) Keep up the great work!

More thrasios activations sure but i dont think countering zirda when he had just revealed a demonic consultation was the play. Instead i think just waiting for the consult wouldve been a better move and finding another way to deal with zirda thrasios was a better option.

    So, this was a really good game. I enjoyed the back and forth and the counterspell war. At the end of the day, it was still a deck winning with Thrasios and demonic consultation. No matter how good the sequencing and play is, every game seems to come down to someone running Thrasios and drawing out the entire deck. There needs to be better variety in the decks played on this channel. I know you guys focus on high end gameplay, but it seems like Casually Competitive repeatedly proves that the cEDH meta is far too narrow right now.

      @Zzectbu Před 4 lety +4

      While in this particular game it didn't really make a difference, T1 rocks into wheel is a serious risk, and Mystic Remora is a frequently played card. Trinisphere is also something to watch out for from Urza. Given these potentially very bad outcomes from waiting, the risk of an extra 3 damage is well worth it.

    • @mikestephens267
      @mikestephens267 Před 4 lety +2

      If you play it before - It gets around Spell Pierce effects, it doesn't get pitched if someone Wheel of Fortunes, Windfall's or Burning Inquiry's. It stops people from drawing due to Rhystic, or Remora. It gets around Trinsphere and helps to mitigate Rule of Law. It allows you to use colorless mana on your next upkeep in case you do something like Crypt, Land, Birds of Paradise - and then your opponent drops Tabernacle. And fewer counters are online.
      Paying on average 1.5 life vs the availability of having 2 extra mana seems like a fantastic deal. 40 Life is a huge resource, don't view it like people viewed Necro in the early days (The Magazine Inquest rated it the worst card in the set - imagine paying life for cards???).

      @Zzectbu Před 4 lety +4

      While it's generally a bad idea to play a Mana Crypt that you can't do anything with right away in casual Commander, in cEDH it's a very different issue because wheels, Mystic Remora and Trinisphere are all things that can and semi-frequently do happen on Turn 1. The extra two mana a turn from Mana Crypt is so valuable in a cEDH game that the minor downside of playing a Crypt when you can't use it right away is far preferable to risking your opponents either drawing cards off your Crypt or - even worse - wheeling while it's stuck in your hand.

    I've complained about D.Con before as I think it's a really uninteresting and lazy way to win but this was a really good game from all players

    Why do people play mana crypt t1 and not use it? It’s only 3 life; and a 50/50 shot at losing it, but I thought cedh was all about maximizing value?

      Because while you might not use it that turn you get it out ahead of stacks pieces, such as rhystic study.

      Losing it to stax or wheel is bad, just play it immediately.

    Eh, another demonic consultation win..

    I liked the game. Really interesting to see that both Thrasios decks were keeping lands on top with their scry.
    I have to note that your closing thoughts were very repetitive. Both on words used (e.g. exciting) and the message you wanted to bring across (e.g Consult = „boring“)

    cEDH = Counterspells EDH
    Nonetheless, amazing game... So many awesome interactions!
    Kudos to all the players for their skills and plays.

    I love you guys, but like every episode has an illegal play that gets claimed doesn't matter. The Tribute Mage should have been stopped by his own controller's Torper Orb, which is very bad form on the Urza player. The Orb was kinda hidden on the stream, which is also bad form as it should have been in a very obvious place.

    "negative connotation to a demonic consultation win." sounds like those same people who dont like counter magic or land destruction. its a type of deck or archetype. i personally dont like games where you turn creatures sideways to win games so we need to eliminate creatures.

    I think the descriptions at the end are going more and more toward defending why the players have now just gone from Casually Competitive to just plain competitive

  • @patrickbaillargeon7568

    Bleh, a pod with four blue players a combo win and nearly no combat. Sure there were some tall stacks but still

    I hate it when players hide their mana rocks and artifacts in their land pile. Super suspicious playing imo.

      Yup. Very bad form. It makes messing up Dockside treasure amounts and those rocks tend to not be effected by Vandle blast and Null Rod

    Everyone always spending all their interaction on meaningless stuff then the game ends abruptly with consultation and nobody has any responses. zzzzz
