I have found, that as the last 6 or 7 months have passed, I and my family have become much more confident that we are in a good position to take on a more self sufficient lifestyle. We have definite soft spots in our armor, but, we have neighbors that can help we those as we are able to help with some of their problem areas. Economy is getting worse, but our preparedness is getting better. Thanks, in part, to you Steve. Thank you!

Really like Alaska Prepper's motto "Don't be scared be prepared". Even better is Pastor Joe Fox "Do the best you can with what you have where you're at". Think Ben Franklin penned that one originally.

I believe that including silver and gold in your preps is important. Investing 10% to 20% isn't excessive. The best way is to set a certain dollar amount and purchase that amount every week or month as your budget permits. But get all of the other things too, and develop skills. I prefer rural locations, but it would be difficult to defend against a 50 member motorcycle gang unless your retreat is invisible.

I saved an ordered a second solar charge controller (Victron 100/30 smart charger with bluetooth) a few days ago and a larger plug-in charger to use with a gas generator when needed to top off my big battery. I got two more solar panels recently...Renogy bifacial 100w 2-pack. Soon I`ll be able to keep my 3.8 kwh battery fully charged and run my air conditioner on sunny days because I have 8 panels that can`t be used with what I have now. TAKE THAT LOUISIANA HURRICANES & THUNDERSTORMS....and the power company who raised my rate this year!
This is a huge step forward for me that has taken over three years and something I never thought I would ever have. We had a power outage this morning and with what I already have my air conditioner is only adding 100 watts per hour to my bill. With my new setup...even on cloudy days...I can store 100 to 200 watts per hour into my battery. That`s plenty for cooking with low wattage rice cookers and my 325w griddles. Or an electric blanket in winter and my 200w heater. I use it to save fruit trees or blow heat under a blanket or right on my on cold days to save energy.

@@ethereal369 They`re so useful. Try the Aroma 4-cup rice cooker with it. It even works with my tiny Golabs R300 and only uses 225 watts. It`s actually just over ONE cup (dry to cook) but to get "4 cups" they include a tiny plastic thing. Has a nice wide rice paddle spoon though. Also, for heating water in a cup or bowl try a 300w immersion water heater. Mine use about 275 watts. You can boil eggs in a cup or bowl with them too.

@@ethereal369 I forgot to mention the Dash Mini Griddle. It`s tiny but it cooks pancakes, eggs, corn cakes and nice 4 inch pan biscuits, has a perfect thermostat with an "ON" light, and uses about 300 to 350 watts. I LOVE mine and got four of their cookers including the tiny waffle maker. Ha! I can cook using my power stations with all these things and little rice cookers.

I`ve found a lot of gold rings metal detecting...back when gold was 250 bucks an ounce. I only made 30 to 35 (57 for one 18k) bucks at scrap gold (90% of weight) prices then. In the 70s & 80s silver coins were EVERYWHERE and in the 70s/early 80s when I found them I spent them on food, records or gas. I had no money. When silver went way up in the 80s I did find a local guy who gave me about half what they were worth. Now it takes some real luck to find them. I`ll tell you this though...if you can find an old undetected historic swimming hole and get a Nokta Makro Simplex...waterproof/cheap....you`ve hit a gold mine. It still happens. Rings and silver coins galore!

Every time I see one of the "world is ending" subjects, I always wonder what are they *really* doing to set their families up for whatever comes. Usually, it's not much, unfortunately. If we can do it with my husband's health issues and chronic pain, as well as our limitations as a couple because of that, even preparing while living on a fixed income before SS kicked in, anyone can. They should be asking, "How *can* we do this?", not saying it's useless and impossible. Getting your mind right is the first step, IMO. Sometimes, I do get tired of trying to drag people along behind me, though, if you know what I mean. ~Cynthia P.S. this video should get more views than the sky-is-falling ones, but we know it won't.

Steve I have found that something I was told many years ago by Bob Brown when I submitted my first story to SOF and it was accepted. I had included a cover letter that had basically stated " I'm not sure if this will be acceptable for publication due to my particular detailed account of a situation. " Bob called me about two weeks later and simply said" Look kid no worries about offending our readers. We have two types of them. Those who this publication recruits for military service and those who wish they could. Both spend money and keep my lights on."
I think that the prepping community is the same way. Now that would be ok if...they were reputable sources like you. Most however aren't. I could care less how much money a person makes. That is on the consumer and their dollars. However, some are actually part of a bigger problem which is false security. Seems there are some Walking Dead fans who think it's realistic though.
Power! Prepare for no power! You do that you're already ahead of the curve. Another valuable piece of advice you give daily. Thanks as always
