As a 69 year old woman who grew up on a farm with two older brothers, I learned how to shoot at age nine. I currently live alone in a rural area, so my two guns of choice are a .357 revolver and a 12 gauge. I'm comfortable with both.

I'm almost 77. Learned to shoot by my dad, who was an MP in the military. He taught me with 410. My hub was a collector and I learned to shoot most guns. Have a 9 mm of my own and can still hit a water jug at 800 ft with a 3030. I think its important to know the ins and outs of firearms. We have a lot of coyotes here and it pays to know how to use the guns if needed. I pray I will never have use one against another humanbeing, but know how if it comes to that.

I'm an almost 61 year old grandmother. I have a .357 and my carry is a .38. I carry to protect myself, but more importantly to protect my granddaughters. Hardly any of my friends carry because they say, "I would probably shoot myself" or they think nothing can happen to them. I point out all of the shootings at Walmart and other stores where I'm sure most people thought the same before it happened to them.

  • @alleyratAnderson

I was carrying my 1911 concealed in walmart one time when I heard a zzzzzzzzz, the screw in my holster had come lose, and it went upside down, fortunately the holster was a locking holster, but this was awkward, I had to walk out holding the holster upright with my hand in my pocket. I locktighted the screw so that would never happen again. Since then of course Texas went open carry with and then open carry without a license. I still maintain my license though.

I’m the one who requested this video, thank you so much for making it Steve! ❤Very helpful information. Really looking forward to your next where you show some guns. I’m still a bit confused on how a revolver is different. Beginner here obviously. I was planning on conceal carrying a 9mm because of it being small and easy to hide, and it’s what I have currently in a safe next to my bed, so I’ll have some research to do to figure out what I need to buy. Really good point about how you want an effective round because you’re not going to be calm if you’re having to use it. I can tell you I will definitely not be calm in that situation. If you could possibly touch also on gun safety with young kids, safes etc. i would so appreciate it. I knew definitely to not ever carry it in a purse and to have it on my person or in a safe, anything else I should think about to make sure my kids never get their hands on it? My boys are 4 and 8 and I want to carry to protect them, I don’t ever want to add a danger. You hear those horror stories on the news of a child getting hold of a gun and accidentally shooting them selves or a sibling 😢 you are absolutely right that my fear about carrying a gun comes from my lack of being comfortable with one, thank you for the idea to reach out to the sheriffs department because there doesn’t appear to be a shooting range in my city and I could only find someone in the next city who charges $400 an hour for classes and that’s a bit much for me right now. Thanks again

I have personally went back to a revolver in 357. My trusted auto turned into a craptastic jamomatic and for the time when I do need my protection: want it totally dependable.
I do however carry a .40 when I feel the need for extreme protection. Revolver every day, 40 goes on my hip when in injun country. ( no offense, old term )

The difference between a 9mm and a 40 cal is 1 mm. Get your socket set out and look at the inside diameter of both..10mm is .40 cal. A 10mm is longer and holds more powder to propel the bullet faster. I use 9mm for EDC.. in the warmer months. Or if im going to the big city..my town's population is 2,000. In the winter i carry either a .357 magnum snub nosed revolver or my S&W M&P 2.0 in .45 acp. with a 9mm backup . Ive been carrying since 1980 as a civilian. Thankfully i have never had to use my firearms against human targets as a civilian. One thing Steven forgot to mention.. the training you get, and you should get it with refresher classes every 5 years or so, are expensive. Find a reputable school to go to. And practice whenever you can.
    Stay safe.

I'm so glad you made this video. At 21 I went to buy my first gun and was advised a 9mm so I ended up buying a SW 9mm. I had been around guns, gone hunting, but didn't know a thing. At 49 I retired my 9mm, switched to an H&K 45 with a back up as a Ruger 390. Is that not a good backup?

Because, being essentially a 9mm short, it has even less stopping power than the already sub-effective 9mm.

@@integrativepreparedness9427 I will also add that the 380 is so underpowered that it is more prone to causing semi-auto pistols to malfunction. It is simply not reliable

@@MrLatenttraveler "Josey",but got your meaning,in real life multi pistols were common place before and after his time period.Faster reloads, yes, but because black powder non self contained cartridges(Reliability & Reloads).Even up into the eighties with Jim Cirillo's journey.Josey's case, being a guerilla fighter from Horseback requiring speed and violence of action.Which meant multiple repeating revolvers and double barreled shotguns in said time period/atmosphere.Conclusion being, mission drives tactics which inturn dictate tools.

Steve I completely agree what you said about the 9mm, but here in California it's hard to get new hand guns because of the roster. They just released a few more handguns on the roster, but on July 1st they going to charge another 11% + the 8% sale tax and any other fees on top of that. I'm not a fan of 9mm, but I bought S & W shield+ before the increase of 11%. As soon as this gets over turned I will look for 40 cal version, or a 45. 1911. My hands are extremely small, short fingers and have arthritis. So my grip is not as strong as it once was. I tried a Glock years ago and my fingers barely reached the trigger. I already have 7.62 × 51/.308 and a 12 guage. I figured I can used the 9mm and practice with it until I upgrade to a larger caliber.

Awesome Steve! I'm forwarding this to my wife at work . Thanks for backing my opinion lol. Happily we have reached a compromise lol. She can carry and handle a 45 ACP in a revolver now. That was after she became proficient with a speed loader. This is her work/church carry. Happily she carries a commander any other time. I was taught to carry nothing less than a 45 in winter months and if I was lazy when it was hot I could carry a 9. But at the end of the day a hollow point becomes a hard ball in winter conditions and clothing. So why not make it a big hard ball? Lol . I like a 40 alot! But... I'm stacked with 45 lol. People will be wise to listen to you. Truly a voice of reason in a confused World! I'm not even gonna speak about pass through and percentages with a 9. I save that for the nay sayers who will deal with the police later lol
