- Today we sat down and watch Disney's Chicken Little! This highly requested movie is something we've all seen as kids, but does it hold up? Why is fish on the spaceship? What is Ugly Duckling's real name? How did Chicken Little's mom die? Is Buck Cluck really THAT bad? And there was a chicken little video game? Someone give us answers cause we sure don't have them...

Chicken Little - 2005
Young Chicken Little (Zach Braff) throws his small town into panic by claiming the sky is falling. Unable to find the piece of "sky" that hit him, he earns the town's scorn. A year later, outcast Little tries to redeem himself by joining the baseball team, helping to win a crucial game. Later that night he is hit on the head again and discovers that the "falling sky" is actually from a UFO. Now, Little must convince the skeptical town that an alien invasion is about to happen.

I don't know why Disney thought people wanted to see a little boy get emotionally abused for an hour and 20 minutes and try to earn his dad's love by being exactly like him. Then after that they decided what this plot really needed was aliens all along

What bugs me a ton about this movie that no one mentions is the fact that *nothing* at the beginning was Chicken Little's fault.
Everyone got so damn scared and destroyed millions in property damage cause they were stupid, and then blame the CHILD.

This legitimately has Abysmal animation. To put in perspective, Toy Story 2 came out in 1999, so 6 years of computer progress, and a budget 60 million dollars more and this is what we get?
Disneys in house studio was NOT good back in the day
.....and that's why Disney bought Pixar!
Disney clearly rushed the movie and thought mmm, that's looks like shrek animation, excellent
Chicken Little was effectively the flash game of the kids movie industry. It may have looked crappy, but it made us happy.

Chicken Little winning the baseball game so he could get adopted was one of the moments of all time.
4:29 In this first instance of characters lacking eyes, it doesn't seem like their eyes just disappeared. If you watch it frame-by-frame, you can see the process of their eyes closing during the camera pan and their eyelids are just pitch black (that may also be the case for 7:20 but then again you can see the bull blink with the lack of eye so idk).
It looks like his pupils are just really big. I see the whites of his eyes around the edges. Just like Fish when he waves from inside the alien ship dome.
Yeah so the 1943 movie was the first time Disney told this fable. The 1943 movie was done to make a point about the evils of mass hysteria and how the Germans wanted the US to be afraid. In that version, Little is tricked by a fox into thinking the sky was falling. Locky, the rooster leader, didn't believe him, the fox motivated Little to challenge Locky's leadership.
When other birds (hens and ducks) finally believed them that the sky was in fact falling, Little took them all to cave that he believed was the right thing to do. This cave...was the fox's den. Little sealed them up in there...and it ends with a fox stuffed from eating. With their wishbones arranged as a war cemetery. The narrator steps in to say the story wasn't supposed to end this way, with the fox saying to never believe everything they read
I'm imagining Kim Jong-un explaining this to an audience of confused North Korea generals
@@nathanmcgill7249 so what your saying is their taking inspiration from that movie for their newest plan

I feel like the dynamic between Runt and Fish is one of the best parts of this movie.
It's like Old Weird Harold and Mushmouth from the Fat Albert movie Straight Outta TV Land
How much do you wanna bet that it was originally going to be just them until Disney came along and smeared a classical storybook element into it.
Likely not, I'd say they were aiming for the storybook the whole time.
Disney was all about the old storybooks back then.
"Is Runt the only one with a normal name? We have Duckling, Fish and Chicken!"
Uhh...Abby. Her name is Abby. Duckling was an insult from Foxy. Abby's name is used like a hundred times.

The animation is understandably off when you know that this was released at the tail end of the Michael Eisner era. If you know a thing or two about Eisner, then you know he brought a lot of good...and a lot of bad. Eisner brought new parks and renaissance for the movies. But by the time the 2000s came around, Eisner was neglecting the animation division, the parks, and creating corporate mentality.
It got so bad that Roy E. Disney (Roy O. Disney's son; Roy O. Disney was Walt's brother who postponed retirement to help finish Magic Kingdom in 1971) had to step in with a Save Disney campaign to kick him out and replaced with Bob Iger. Ironically, he had another Save Disney campaign in 1984 (the 70s to 80s was another dark era for the company) which replaced CEO Ron Miller (Walt's son-in-law) with Frank Wells and Eisner.
Kinda wish he didn't do that tbh. Imagine how bad of a spot Disney would be in today

The Disney executives were placing all their bets on this film to show they didn't need Pixar after contract with them was up. They canned all their 2D films in development, had multiple test screenings, changed Chicken Little from a girl to a boy for toy sales, stuffed Chicken Little into KH2, and had plans for multiple films, shows, & games based on this film. Of course, the film failed and two months after it was released, they agreed to buy Pixar and its purchase was complete in May 2006.
Don't care what people say. The cast performing Don't Go Breaking My Heart and Kerbie and Morkubine Porcupine beatboxing during the credits is peak cinema, and I will die on this hill! I am proud to say I had a Chicken Little-themed birthday party when I was five.
Huh. Always wondered why Chicken Little of all characters was in KH2.

I remember my A/V teacher thought this was the perfect movie for CG........ I told him there was better ...... still true to this day
Haven’t seen this movie in years and it will now cherish my brain for the rest of my life.
17:15 the first movie that comes to mind is The Mask.
Fun fact! I did 3-D animation as my college major so I know what I’m talking about.
The eyes are in fact not part of the model! They are separate objects that are attached to the same rig, puppet structure, as the rest of the model. Sometimes those eyes get left behind.
Alternatively in order to save policies, faces on a model, animators will only use half of a sphere for eyes. This is typically all you need. But sometimes those eyes are flipped around on accident. When you look at the backside of pollys you cannot actually see the poly. I don’t remember why but it has something to do with a thing called the normals of the model. It’s got to do with the lighting. So in the case of the half sphere eyes, when you look at the back side of the eyes you see through it into the black void of the character model skull.
So yeah that’s an easy animation error.
This movie is the equivalent of when you feel a sneeze coming out, but when the feeling of needing to sneeze gets the most intense, it never comes out and leaves a burning feeling in your nostrils. You want it to end, but it never does and leaves a lingering feeling of internal discomfort, the only difference being that with the sneeze, you feel discomfort in your nose. When you watch Chicken Little, you feel discomfort in your soul.
This also applies to *WAAAAY* to many animated movies.

I remember seeing this movie in theaters and while I really enjoyed it at the time I had HORRENDOUS nightmares like a month later about the egg stilt alien things.
Honestly, I would LOVE remakes of animation with today's capabilities. Screw the Live-Action and just go ham with the power of computers, it's not like most movies even use sets anymore. Everything's often just CGI'd.
Also, in a better world, it'd be nice to give the Silver and Bronze era of Disney some spotlight. I'd give examples like the Black Cauldron or Sword in the stone, but I'm not confident in the fact that they'd stay to the same concept. End up just butchering the entire thing somehow.
it can be assumed that only children are named just their animal name, but some kids/species might have siblings or be part of a litter and have a unique name. runt's name implies he's part of a litter/family of enormous, almost supernaturally sized pigs. chicken little might be called little as a specifier to distinguish him from a sibling or other chickens who are known in the town.
